We headed out this afternoon to visit Toltec Mounds State Park located about 20 miles southeast of Little Rock. The Toltec Mounds site dates from 600-1050 A.D. During that period, eighteen mounds and an embankment were constructed. The area was named Toltec by early discoverers as it reminded them of similar flat topped mounds found in Mexico. Since the people who constructed this site did not have a written language, we do not know their tribal name or what their lifestyle was like. We also have no idea why they left the area or where...
