Oct 15, 2017 - President Clinton's birthplace

Oct 15, 2017 (Sunday) We were able to get an early start this morning. I had reservation in Texarkana for the tonight. Landyn did a great job of helping me navigate. Once we were set up in Texarkana, Landyn and I went to Hope, Arkansas to President Bill Clinton’s birthplace. It was interesting. I think Landyn enjoyed it also. When we were leaving she found a pecan on the lawn of house Clinton grew up in. She picked it up and said she was going to keep it because it came from the lawn of where a president lived. After we left the...

Aug 19, 2017 - Taking it Easy

Aug 19th, 2017 (Saturday) I spent part of today looking around downtown Texarkana. It is like most downtowns now, most of the stores are closed and the buildings need some repairs. They have torn down a couple of the old store buildings. I was going to go to the Arkansas tourist bureau since it was only ¾ of a mile from my RV park and then to Hope AR. I tried to go about 1:30 but I-30 was shut down because of an accident. They didn’t open it back up until about 7. Traffic was stacked up for miles!!. I spent the afternoon in the RV just...

Aug 18, 2017 - Travel Day

Aug 16th – Aug 18th This has been a busy couple of days. Wed (16th) I had the leak in the roof of the RV fixed and tire minders added to the RV tires. It turned into an all-day event. I stayed at Ray Roberts State Park Wed and Thurs nights (17th). All day Thurs was spend running errors taking care of some business and getting ready to pull out today (Friday). When I was doing my research for full time RVing, I saw where some followed a 2/2/2 rule. Travel no more than 200 miles a day, stop every 2 hours and spend 2 nights. I’m finding this...

Nov 28, 2015 - Rain and more rain

Yesterday was a long tiring day. We had the car already hooked up and everything but the electricity unhooked and stored. But during the night it started raining so we were destined to have a hard day. We got up about 4:00am and got dressed and while Jackie was prepping the car and storing the electric cord, I was doing the prep inside. I brought in the bedroom slide and stowed the satellite. I also started the generator and let it run until we were ready to pull out. We pulled out of the lot and was on I-40 headed toward Little Rock at...

Dec 3, 2014 - We're Off

We got a good start at 8:15am on Tuesday, Dec 2nd. The weather was cold but clear and we made it to Benton, IL the first night. It was still too cold to turn on the water so we "roughed" it the first night without running water. It was tough but we got through it. ;) We got an early start today (6:15) and we made it all the way to Texarkana (500 miles) today. The weather was wet all day with an annoying drizzle and a lot of traffic. But another safe day on the road. Tomorrow we head directly south through Texas. Down to Houston and then...

Jan 12, 2014 - We're Off!!!

Well, we did escape Kenosha on Saturday morning at 8:10 AM. That was after one of the most harrowing hookups we have ever done. When I first drove up to the trailer, I applied the brakes and slid right past it. The storage lot was a sheet of ice. Fortunately I brought along a container of Kitty Litter, and after liberally spreading that around our truck and across the lot. We go hooked up and carefully followed the trail of kitty litter out of the lot. From there on the roads were good and we were off. We got to within 40 miles of our first...

Jul 17, 2013 - Millwood State Park, Ashdown, Arkansas

We decided since we had a few days before we needed to check in at Cloud Nine, we'd travel some of the "scenic byways" of Arkansas. Along the way, we'll stay a couple of days apiece at some of their state parks. I can't say much for the so called "scenic" roads in the eastern part of the state... all we saw were trees, and the occasional double-wide with some livestock sprinkled in for good measure. Something that was surprising, however, was how well some of Arkansas state parks are kept. In some states (TEXAS!) the park system is a...

Jul 17, 2013 - Attack of the trees!!!

The beginning of July was the beginning of the end for our stay at Caddo Lake State Park, as park hosts. Four months may have been pushing our limits, as we began looking forward to the 15th, our last day before moving on to Arkansas. On the 7th, Cindy and I celebrated 18 years of marital bliss at the River Bend restaurant… we should’ve gone sooner, it was awesome! As our departure drew near, we scaled back on the amount of work we did for the park, and began cleaning our own property again. Cindy cleaned the inside of the rig, and I gave...

Dec 27, 2012 - Long Day

After spending an extra night in Benton, IL,, because of a blizzard, we were on the road again at 8:00 this morning. Even tho Paul missed a step on the ladder, and fell, cleaning off the slide outs, he did a great job. No snow came in when I brought the slide outs in. We decided not to stop in Memphis tonight, since the weather didn't sound real good, and drove to Texarkana. We will now be on schedule to arrive at our final destination on Saturday. We were just east of Little Rock and got stuck in road construction back-up for over an hour....

Oct 13, 2012 - Texarkana

We are almost back to Texas! We have stopped for the night at Sunrise RV Park in Texarkana, just off of I-30. It was another uneventful (thank goodness) day of driving! We went through some stretches of construction on I-40 that had me gritting my teeth as I maneuvered between concrete barriers and guardrails… you know what I’m talking about… those narrow construction stretches that have signs posted “Trucks wider than 8 feet 6 inches detour now!” They might as well read, “This area of construction is so narrow that if you SNEEZE while...

May 12, 2012 - May 11-12, 2012 -- Karnack, Texas to Texarkana, Arkansas

May 11-12, 2012 – Karnack, Texas to Texarkana, Arkansas I realized when I reread my last post that I gave the boat trip short shrift. I was really tired when I wrote the post which is my only excuse. Our guide was Mary Rose. She was born in Louisiana and moved to Texas when she was a teen-ager, if I got the story straight. Her father was an alligator poacher and worked both in the bayous of Louisiana and Texas. The largest alligator he ever got was close to 1,000 pounds which he got in the Caddo Lake area. When you sold the alligator it was...
