Dec 27, 2012 - Long Day
After spending an extra night in Benton, IL,, because of a blizzard, we were on the road again at 8:00 this morning. Even tho Paul missed a step on the ladder, and fell, cleaning off the slide outs, he did a great job. No snow came in when I brought the slide outs in. We decided not to stop in Memphis tonight, since the weather didn't sound real good, and drove to Texarkana. We will now be on schedule to arrive at our final destination on Saturday. We were just east of Little Rock and got stuck in road construction back-up for over an hour....

Oct 13, 2012 - Texarkana
We are almost back to Texas! We have stopped for the night at Sunrise RV Park in Texarkana, just off of I-30. It was another uneventful (thank goodness) day of driving! We went through some stretches of construction on I-40 that had me gritting my teeth as I maneuvered between concrete barriers and guardrails… you know what I’m talking about… those narrow construction stretches that have signs posted “Trucks wider than 8 feet 6 inches detour now!” They might as well read, “This area of construction is so narrow that if you SNEEZE while...

May 12, 2012 - May 11-12, 2012 -- Karnack, Texas to Texarkana, Arkansas
May 11-12, 2012 – Karnack, Texas to Texarkana, Arkansas I realized when I reread my last post that I gave the boat trip short shrift. I was really tired when I wrote the post which is my only excuse. Our guide was Mary Rose. She was born in Louisiana and moved to Texas when she was a teen-ager, if I got the story straight. Her father was an alligator poacher and worked both in the bayous of Louisiana and Texas. The largest alligator he ever got was close to 1,000 pounds which he got in the Caddo Lake area. When you sold the alligator it was...

May 2, 2012 - Texarkana, AR
We got underway at about 9:00 this morning and arrived at Sunrise RV Park in Texarkana, AR just before 4:00. The trip was OK but several areas of I-40 and I-30 are in urgent need of rebuilding. We did see some reconstruction underway, but there is much left to do. The campground is immediately off I-30 and designed for overnighters. The campsites are all gravel and arranged in an amphitheater setting. Kind of like a drive in movie theater arrangement. While it is not the most attractive campground, the utitilities are very good, including...

Dec 29, 2011 - at the corner
It was another long uneventful driving day just the way we like it. We had fun watching the thermometer inch up as we spent the day driving diagonally through Arkansas. We turned down the furnace and put our winter jackets away. Hopefully, they can stay in the closet although experience tells us that freezing temperatures invade even southern Texas in January. We are camped at a county fairground in Texarkana, a town which is half in Arkansas and half in Texas. The region is called ArkLaTex because the Louisiana border is a few miles away....

Oct 10, 2011 - Texarkana, Arkansas
We left the Mississippi River behind on a rare Saturday travel day and headed west to Little Rock, where I wanted to stop and visit with my step-mom, Syble. Unfortunately, she was in the hospital, but I did get to spend quite a bit of time with her, sharing memories of my Papa. We stayed at the KOA in North Little Rock which was close to the hospital. We had cable for Sunday football but did not have WiFi. -- ALERT FOR TOM: The KOA in North Little Rock had an ice cream parlor in the park office!!! Eat your heart out. (no cherries moobulie...

May 10, 2011 - Texarkana, Arkansas on route to Memphis
Stopped here at the Four States Fairground in Texarkana, AK on route to Little Rock and then Memphis. Only did about 235 miles today, got here about 3:00 PM real close to I30 for our next excursion tomorrow morning. Sometimes these county fairgrounds parks have good facilities close by and are great for overnight stop overs, this one has all services but we just need to plug in its hot and humid outside today. We are headed out soon to Big Jake's BBQ for dinner its only 5 minutes away and has rave reviews, will let you know how it tuns...

Apr 19, 2010 - Our Trip To Mountain View, Arkansas
It was a long day and we are both tired. But, Praise God, no truck or RV problems. The place is small and was a tight squeeze to get the RV just right, but Russ is doing a great job!! We'll go to bed early and leave in the AM. Bob one of the apartment residents was really sweet and let us park in one of his parking spaces. God is Good!!

Dec 29, 2009 - ArkLaTex
Everyone at last night's campground was headed toward the Rio Grande Valley as are we. We all watched the weather forecast for the route ahead and heard about ice pellets in the Texarkana area. As we all pulled up our hoses and prepared to hit the road this morning, there was serious discussion about the route and weather challenges. Some decided to continue heading south with the theory that whatever precipitation does fall, it would most likely be liquid rather than ice. We voted for the shorter route. And we were right. The temperature...

Jan 8, 2007 - Heading out to Arkansas
First day on the road for the new year and we are heading to Arkansas. As we headed North, Ken, who was taken to doing ALL the driving when we are towing, pulled off at a reststop for a 15 minute nap . . . at what turns out to be one of the First Roadside Rests in Texas . . . Made it to the border, staying on the Texas side of Texarkana in the KOA there for just one night.

Jul 13, 2006 - Texarkana, TX
Today was a special day. In all our travels, I don't believe Marty or I had ever made it into Arkansas. Today, we went from Louisiana, through the southwest corner of Arkansas, and just barely over the border into Texas. Actually, I think our KOA tonight sits on the state line. I'm not sure how well you can see the first picture, but that is water between the two lanes of traffic. For quite a distance, the freeway is raised on concrete pilings. It is obious from the water marks that the level changes considerably from time to time. I enjoy...
