Oct 20, 2016 - Searcy, Thursday the 20th

Mo decided to eat something he found in the hotel parking lot last night, so I spent part of the evening cleaning up several barfing bouts. Then, this morning, Bubba tore off his dewclaw. We drove through heavy rain and got back to Searcy at around noon. The rig was out of the bay, and it looked great. But we had an unpleasant surprise when we went inside. The refrigerator had been turned off for many hours. If the electric isn’t plugged in, the fridge automatically kicks over to the propane. Apparently, they turned off the propane (maybe...

We had the best time today! After having the hotel’s breakfast buffet, we drove over to Garvan Woodland Gardens. It’s a huge botanic garden that sits along a large lake and is very dog friendly. It has one of the most beautiful chapels I have ever seen, made entirely of glass and wood. The structure made me gasp – it’s so striking! It is strictly a wedding venue. I can’t imagine a more perfect place for it. We probably walked at least 2 miles around the grounds, and only saw half of the gardens. There were numerous waterfalls, and hundreds...

All this time that we’ve spent in the repair lot, they haven’t started working on our rig until late morning at the earliest. Thankfully, Bill set the alarm for 6am today, because they were ready to pull the rig into the paint bay first thing at 8am. We found some duffel bags in our little laundry area, so we used those to put all our stuff in. Since we had to much time to kill before we could check in to the Hot Springs hotel, we stopped in Little Rock for the Container Store, a park for the boys, and eventually, lunch. We were still...

I felt bad after whining last time, so I just wanted to say that Bill does more than his fair share of chores with the rig. Besides playing with the gross waste tanks, he always either washes or dries the dishes, and spends a lot of time fixing whatever’s broken, and improving spaces and things that just don’t suit us. I mentioned a couple of days ago that under-cabinet lightening would be nice for meal prep, and he spent yesterday doing that for me. I now have new lighting over the sink and over the countertop. I think of these projects he...

We’ve had a couple of cool, foggy days since the cold front came through. The sun has finally come out, and temps are supposed to rocket back up to 90 in a couple days. Lee is back to wanting the rig in a bay for the upper front sanding, which should be happening Monday. Then, they plan on pulling the rig into the paint bay Tuesday afternoon to prep. The actual painting is scheduled for Wednesday. I’ve just booked reservations for Tuesday night and Wednesday night in Hot Springs, AR. I couldn’t get us into my first choice of hotels,...

Oct 13, 2016 - Searcy, Thursday the 13th

Yesterday evening turned out to be very scary, and had I listened to my gut, I wouldn’t have been so surprised… Out of curiosity yesterday morning, and because I knew the forecast was for storms here on Friday, I did some tornado history research for this area. There have been several touchdowns in this county in the last 5 years, but none in the heart of town, and all occurred during the month of April. I also checked with the Storm Prediction Center, and no severe weather was anticipated in the U.S. over the next several days. We ate a...

I should never have said that the repairs were on schedule yesterday. After I posted that entry, SIX new rigs pulled in within a couple hours of each other. The repair guys never even glanced in our direction yesterday, so the whole day was basically wasted. Bill jokingly told Lee (the head bodywork guy) this morning that he was going to have to put some barricades out in front of the shop so that no other rigs could pull into the lot (until ours is finished). All but 1 of the rigs left this morning, and they finally got back to working on...

Today marks 10 days that we’ve been in the repair lot. We got here a week ago last Sunday. Monday and Tuesday last week were spent resealing the windows. The bodywork started Wednesday. So, technically, they’ve only spent 4 days on it so far (they are closed weekends). We are hoping their 2-week promise (10 business days) holds true, but they only work on our rig for a few hours in the afternoons. Bill seems content with the progress, so I guess we are still on track. I think I should have a tee shirt made after this that says “I survived...

We spent nearly all day yesterday in North Little Rock. I had identified a couple of places that I hoped would be photo-worthy (and worth the 50 mile drive), and they did not disappoint. The first was the red covered bridge, which is part of the City’s huge park system. There was also a leash-free dog park nearby, so we let the dogs socialize in the little dog section for a while. It was a really nice day (70’s), after a chilly morning. I was so happy to have the day to play with the digital camera! In between the 2 photo ops, we stopped...

Oct 7, 2016 - Searcy, Friday

After being used to seeing several rigs pull in here every day, only a couple came today, and one of those has already left. The repair shop is closed on the weekend, so we may well be the only ones here until Sunday evening. We will finally be able to sleep in and have the WIFI all to ourselves. It might be a little creepy being in this industrial area alone, but Bill has the pick ax by the front door, so no worries ;) I apologize for the photo of the guy. We had just gotten some stuff at Walmart (still couldn’t find any grapefruit for...

Oct 6, 2016 - Searcy, Thursday

We went out to breakfast early this morning, and took the dogs to a new park near the outskirts of town. Bill (old eagle eyes) spotted the muskrat in the creek. When we parked the car there, we noticed a young woman sitting in her car, acting odd (nervous? restless?). Then along the path, a young man greeted us as he went towards the parking lot, his eyes glued to his phone. As soon as he had passed us, we both said “dealer” at the same time. Sure enough, after he acted like he was going to bypass the woman’s car, he turned back around and...

Oct 5, 2016 - Searcy, Wednesday

We talked with the bodywork guy this morning and decided to bite the bullet and stay another 10-14 days to get it done. When they start painting, we will have to move into a hotel for a couple days. The sanding is supposed to start tomorrow. If they need to pull the rig into one of the bays for the day, they will pull it back out by about 4:30, and hook it back up to the electric. We have already run out of things to do around here (there isn't much to do here), so we’ll see if we can keep busy all day. It has been very hot (90’s) and humid...
