Aug 10, 2017 - Bargains Galore on 64 - Day One Ft. Smith to Clarksville

On a sad note first - we are actually traveling across Arkansas on the “Trail of Tears.” For any of you who are unfamiliar with the Trail of Tears, in 1838 and 1839, as part of Andrew Jackson's Indian removal policy, the Cherokee nation was forced to give up its lands east of the Mississippi River and to migrate to an area in Oklahoma. The Cherokee people called this journey the "Trail of Tears," because of its devastating effects. The migrants faced hunger, disease, and exhaustion on the forced march. Over 4,000 out of 15,000 of the...

Oct 7, 2016 - Russellville Arkansas

Today was a driving day, we left Tennessee 9:30 am and drove all the way to where we are tonight, close to the Oklahoma border. It was very windy today, thought maybe there would be a storm happening, but as we sit tonight , it is a calm and beautiful night. Doing laundry and sipping on some vino ! We are making our way back towards Arizona, then towards home, so you may not see too much going on the next few days. Have a good night!

Oct 6, 2016 - Lake Dardanelle

Drove all day and made it to Lake Dardanelle sp where we stayed previously. Humidity is back to good old southern standards! On the interstate today, a truck ahead of us pulling a trailer full of cattle lost a tire. Luckily the tire rolled straight down the road for about 50 yards and the driver was able control his rig. Should be able to almost make it to Georgia tomorrow- just ahead of hurricane Matthew.

Jun 7, 2015 - Lake Dardenelle

We left our luxurious campsite at Walmart and got back on the road by 10 to get through Oklahoma. Strange to see green trees along the side of the road blocking a 20 mile view! Made it into Arkansas and stopped at the Lake Dardenelle state park. Had a little trouble finding it but finally found it and got a site for 16.66- water and electric. We dont have the benefit of mother nature cooling it down to the 30s at night, so we opted for ac. Southern humidity is something after being out west!

Jan 22, 2015 - Hard Times

I know.....it's been much too long since my last post. It's been a rough 6 weeks and I just haven't had the heart to write. My sister passed away on December 9th. We knew it was coming, but it's still a shock. We left the motorhome in Florida and headed back to Arkansas about 2:00pm. We stopped for the night in Marianna, FL at a very nice hotel. But as you can imagine, we slept very little. At 3:00am we were both awake so we got dressed and hit the road at 3:30am. We made a couple of wrong turns that cost us some time, but still arrived in...

Oct 27, 2014 - On the road again!!!!!

The title of my last post was restful days. That continued until Thursday afternoon. I called my Dr.'s office to ask if they had mailed me a copy of my bloodwork I had done the week before. Of course I had to leave a message which was fine. I just wanted to have a copy to compare with last years tests. Within 15 minutes the nurse called back and said that my liver enzymes were pretty high and the Dr. wanted me to have an ultrasound of my liver to see what was going on. After I asked several questions and told her we were leaving on Monday,...

Oct 22, 2014 - Restful days

There isn't much to write about this week. The weather is still almost perfect. Cool nights and warm days. No air conditioner needed. Just the windows open and a nice breeze coming off the lake. Ahhhhh, so nice! We didn't even start the car on Monday. We ate at home and just chilled out. Watched a little TV, but mostly just enjoyed the peace and quiet. Yesterday we did mostly the same except Jackie did make a run to Walmart to replenish our groceries. Yes, I am cooking again. I guess that's news in itself since it happens so seldom. We...

Oct 19, 2014 - A wonderful weekend!!!

I'll try to get you caught up on our weekend. First let me say the weather has been just about perfect. Brilliant sunshine all day and high temps in the 70's, and cool at night with lows in the low 50's. For this time of year, that's pretty good. Friday started out cool, but Jackie still walked in shorts and was sweating when he got home. After his shower we headed out to town. We had a couple of stops to make and then went to Dardanelle to visit and have supper with Bill & Kay and play some games. Bill fixed some Taco soup and I took the...

Oct 17, 2014 - A Great Thursday

Yesterday can only be described as a great Thursday!!! The sun shined on us with all its glory. The high temperature was 83 degrees. We had a nice breeze coming in off the lake, and I would have had all the windows open, but, our neighbors in the site beside us decided to build a huge fire in their firepit and cook over it. The smoke came right over on us, so I just closed all the vents and windows and turned on the air. I did some laundry, and baked a cake, and had a jammie day until about 3:00. We got ready and took the cake out to...

Oct 15, 2014 - Nicer weather???

Tuesday started out cloudy and damp and cool. The wind howled all night and still was howling when I got up. I mean that literally. You could hear it whistling around the windows in the coach. I would guess at least 20 mph. Jackie got up before me and walked here in the park. He was dressed for winter though, hoodie and all. After he finished walking we had breakfast and headed to town to look around. We went by our old neighborhood and drove by our old house. The lady that bought it has really made it look nice. She has kept my rose bush...

Oct 13, 2014 - Back at the lake

Wow!!!! Branson really gave us a send-off this morning via mother nature. I normally don't sleep well on the night before we travel. Last night was no exception. I got into bed about 12:30 am and tossed and turned for at least an hour before I finally drifted off to sleep. About 4:00am I heard the first raindrops on the roof. I turned over and went back to sleep. At 5:30 my phone let me know we had some weather coming in. And 15 minutes later we were getting some very hard rain and high wind gusts with some quarter size hail. Both of us...

Sep 25, 2014 - Lake Dardanelle State Park

From Olive Branch, Mississippi, we drove north to Memphis before heading west on I-40 again. Luckily, we were able to circle around the construction AGAIN! Boy, did we think we were in luck, until about 30 miles out of Memphis the traffic just stopped. MORE construction. So we crept along for a while during the merge to one lane and then we were off again. We made a couple quick stops….one to walk Rocky and one to make some lunch… and 4 1/2 hours later, we were in Russellville, Arkansas. So in one day we went from Mississippi back to...
