Jun 9, 2016 - Petit Jean State Park, Arkansas

Camp was set up yesterday in Petit Jean State Park, located south of Russellville and Morrilton in Arkansas. Petit Jean(pronounced "petty") Jean State Park is a wonderful park located atop a flat top mountain, also named Petit Jean. Lots of neat trail, a waterfall, Indian rock art, a swimming pool and a beautiful lodge and restaurant are there. Nearby is a car museum for those who like old automobiles. The park gets it name according to legend. Petit Jean (translated as Little John) was a young woman in the 18th century. When she found...

Where RV This Year?

Apr 4, 2009 - Morillton, AR - Petit Jean State Park

The trip up from Crater of Diamonds Thursday was uneventful though it started out in the rain. The rain cleared and the rest of the drive was easy and enjoyable. We bypassed Little Rock on I-430 so the traffic wasn't bad. After arrival we got all set up and camp ready just before it started raining again - no campfire tonight! Cell service, internet and satellite are all good up here on top of the mountain. The sites are very large and we have full hook ups. Petit Jean was the first state park in Arkansas, founded in 1923, and is their...

2009 Alaska

Sep 5, 2008 - Petit Jean State Park, Friday

Petit Jean State Park, Arkansas Today, we’re headed to Petit Jean State Park near Morrilton, AR. Morrilton is Kay’s home town, and we have not been there since her mother passed away in 2004. This is our first experience towing a car behind DunnGone. It’s a whole new world with a completely new vocabulary. We’re towing our “new to us” 2007 Saturn Ion 2; since this is being towed, it is called a “TOAD”. We’re not using a tow dolly where the front two wheels are on a trailer, but instead towing “4 DOWN”, meaning all 4 wheels of the toad are...

Apr 6, 2008 - Petit Jean State Park near Russellville, Arkansas

Update: It has been a week since I wrote the section following. I am in a library in Millington, Tennessee just above Memphis. I did not have good enough Internet service in Petit Jean State Park to download my pictures. Now we are in a State Park in Tennessee with zero cellular service, thus we came into town to use the library. Yesterday we had a nice visit with my cousin James Rone and his wife Theta. Tomorrow we plan to attend church with our friends Phil and Sharon Bollinger. Phil was one of my roommates for three years in college. We...

Oct 3, 2006 - Arkansas / Oklahoma

We arrived in Sand Springs, Oklahoma just outside of Tulsa this afternoon. Bud & Judy's place was a little hard to find, but we only got lost once. After numerous telephone calls, we finally made it. They have a beautiful place here with lots of livestock which includes Bubbette the cow and Wilbur the goat (they seem to be best friends). Bud & Judy cruised to Alaska with us last summer and we were excited to see them again. Even though we live far apart we have managed to maintain a close relationship which we treasure. They will retire in...

Apr 2, 2006 - Morrilton, AR

We drove all day today, and are within 20 miles of our destination. We stopped at Morrilton because we're not supposed to be into Russellville until tomorrow AM. This way, we unhooked, and hooked up the sewer, and can take showers, sleep in, stop at Blackwell, etc. on the way in tomorrow. Blackwell is our stop for some wine. Pope county where we are going is a dry county in Arkansas, so we'll stock up a little on the way in so we have supplies for company or whatever. Our drive today was uneventful, other than a little bit of rain, and...
