Aug 13, 2017 - Little Rock/Cabot, Arkansas

Our next stop was to see some other family members, Glenda’s sister and other brother near Cabot/Lonoke/Carlisle, Arkansas. We had a short driving day to Cabot, but despite several phone calls we made over the last week or two, in which the owner assured us he had a pull through spot for us, he had one back-in spot that was on such a slope there was no hope that we could level the coach. We grudgingly stayed the night, and after telling him to stop lying to people on the phone, (if you're going to give your spaces away first-come,...

Sue's trip west 2016

Nov 2, 2015 - In Arkansas

From Litle Rock North KOA Had a change of plans today. When I looked at the map I saw where we were going through Tupelo, MS whch is the birthplace of Elvis. It's also the home of one of my favorite authors, Peggy Webb. Her family actually knew Elvis and one of them ocassionally shared a playpen with hm. One of the characters in her books is a basset hound named Elvis who thinks he is really the reincarnated King. If you've had a bassset hound you can imagine an attitude just like this. The books are southern charm and comedy and a...

Oct 9, 2015 - North Little Rock

We stayed at the Eagle Thursday - it was a nice day and we should have gone somewhere as it started to rain that night and was raining Friday AM. Could not get another day at these last parks so we packed up between rain showers and left. Hwy 65 south of Branson is curvy and very scenic, we drove through Arkansas mountains and were fortunate to hit rain on the straighter roads and it was dry or just misting on those curvy mountain roads. At Conway AR which is north of Little Rock we were in a very heavy rain shower - it cleared up as we...

2015 Eagle trip

Mar 17, 2015 - St. Patrick's Day

At departure time, it was 68F and clearing. Again on 59 (to become I69), we passed Nacogdoches (known to the locals as "Nac"), which is the oldest town in Texas. Folks who are from Texas talk about it as though it were really several different states ("I'm from South Texas"), and climate- and terrain-wise, it is. East Texas is green and wooded. This route took us through lots of towns and traffic lights. We left Texas and entered Arkansas, getting onto I30. It was 81F and sunny. 430 is the Little Rock bypass and the North Little Rock KOA...

Jul 10, 2014 - Back to North Little Rock

We have returned to Riverside in North Little Rock for just the night. Foxy couldn't wait to drag Joe across the bridge to the Clinton Library. Her wanderings were curtailed a little when the worst thunderstorm came through. As the Garth Brooks' song so aptly recalls....the thunder rolls...and the lightning strikes...and Foxy turns into a scared doggy. Luckily, the storm passed pretty fast and we were able to calm her down and she had a good night.

Summer 2014 & Beyond

Jun 19, 2014 - Short Stay

Meet up with my Arizona neighbors this afternoon after a short drive from the Oklahoma border. We went to a casino for lunch (and that's all). Later we compared notes and realized that we would not meet up again until August when we get together in New Hampshire. They are headed to Knoxville and I only going as far as Parkers Crossroads,TN. No pictures because there is much I can do while driving. When I get garden spots like Sallisaw, OK there is much to take worth sharing. So much for now. Tomorrow I head across the Mississippi River and...

Summer Trip 2014

Jun 10, 2014 - Little Rock

It seems like it's never going to stop raining in Oklahoma. The campground here in Sallisaw was saturated this morning after more heavy rain overnight. We pulled out early, eastbound, with our sights set on North Little Rock for a couple of nights. It was an uneventful drive, a few stops for paw stretches, and rest breaks for us. We had some light showers but nothing too awful. We arrived at the campground around 12:30. This is really just a big parking lot with electric, water & sewer but the price is right and you can't beat the view...

Summer 2014 & Beyond

Oct 27, 2013 - Day 3

Today we are parked for the night in North Little Rock Arkansas. We are across the river (Arkansas River) from the Clinton Library. Nice spot on the bank of the river. It's called the Downtown Riverside RV Park. Hugh had a long day today but it really a light traffic day, I guess being a Sunday. We got an early start and that helped a lot. We have had cool weather for our trip but today was warmer it was 66 at noon today. Though today is the 1st day we had rain. Last year when we crossed the bridge from Arkansas to Tennessee (in March on...

Oct 26, 2013 - North Little Rock, Ak. and Bridges

We camped downtown next to the river. Thru the back gate and across the pedestrian bridge to the Riverfront shopping area with eateries and Sat morning market. A nice 3 mile hike with the wind blowing, chilly on the way back and drizzling rain. Drove to the Big Dam Bridge where federal, state, and country joined together to create a bike/pedestrian bridge near the upper dam. The bike route goes over 35 miles and down to the Pedestrian bridge where we camped. I thought of Ali and David and knew they might enjoy the bike trail. Had to chores...

Sep 19, 2013 - North Little Rock AR

Not much to report as today was a drive and errand day. We left Harrison and headed south on US 65 until we hooked up with I-40 at Conway, then turned east to our home for tonight in North Little Rock, just across the Arkansas River from downtown Little Rock. We got set up just after noon and about 1:00 we headed out to do some lunch and errands. We got some Chick-Fil-A, I got a haircut while MB went to get some skin care stuff, then we hit Kroger’s for some grub – since we are going to Red Bay stockpiling supplies is a necessity. We came...

Jul 29, 2013 - Mississippi River crossing and Planning for the stops on the way home

I think Dad decided that it will take too long to get home at the rate of 180 to 200 miles a day driving, so he reviewed the current plan and took out a couple of stops. From here, Little Rock, AR, we are going to hit one each day: Oklahoma City, OK, Tucumcari, NM, Gallup, NM, Williams, AZ and Las Vegas, NV. Somewhere between 1500 and 1600 miles by Saturday end of day. A couple of days visiting my Mom's sister, Beverly, and my cousins, Mike and Brett, in Las Vegas....and we'll take 2 more days to get home. It's hot today and we thought our...
