Jun 23, 2012 - North Little Rock AR

Kind of a flashback to yesterday. And the day before, and the day before that. Gas, drive, eat, park, blah, blah, blah. We left Elk City and drove to just west of Oklahoma City and filled up the ride, then took the bypass south of OKC and pressed on to the east for the thankfully uneventful 7+ hour trip. We are currently set up for the night in North Little Rock AR and will, if all goes as planned, be back in our adopted home of Red Bay AL by late tomorrow afternoon. After we got set up here we did something I am not too proud of. For the...

Westbound Again

May 30, 2012 - Sight-Seeing

We drove to the Little Rock Air Force base this afternoon to see the last plane to leave Saigon Vietnam in 1975. The C-130 had been given to the south Vietnamese Army a couple of years earlier. A Vietnamese pilot was flying the plane with 462 people on board when it left Saigon the day before the city fell. Late in the afternoon we rode the bikes 7 and half miles west along the Arkansas River to the "Big Dam Bridge" just downriver from the Murray Hydroelectric Plant (and back). There is a 15-mile round trip paved trail along both sides of...

May 29, 2012 - "Proud to be an American"

Today we rode the electric street car from the North Little Rock side of the river, across the river to Little Rock with the ability to stop, get off and return as many times as desired. First stop was the Farmer's market in Little Rock. There was a wide variety of vegetables and fruit, jewelry, and jams and jellies. We didn't buy anything as it was too hot to carry anything all day. Lunch was at "The Flying Fish". We won't be recommending this. It was just "okay", nothing outstanding. On the subject of food, may as well as mention where...

May 28, 2012 - Hitch Itch Scratched ***Downtown Riverside RV Park, N. Little Rock, AR

That itch that has been twitching has now been scratched! We left Poplar Bluff MO this morning, heading south on Highway 67 to North Little Rock, which is just across the river from Little Rock. The park is owned by the city. It is on the shores of the Arkansas River. There are 72 sites, all but one 50 amp electrical hook ups and water. 42 sites have sewer hook ups. We used our Passport America club discount and three nights cost $34.63. The park is gated and fenced. There is a beautiful view of the Little Rock skyline. There is a...

Oct 16, 2011 - Saturday....Return of the Mountain Man

Trapper awoke Saturday morning, and immediately recognized something was different...he could sense the closeness of others who were like himself. The Mountain Men were in town! Well, not exactly mountain men, in Arkansas they call themselves frontiersman...but they are brothers. Made to exist where others cannot...tougher..more cunning...wise in the way of the wild animals they hunt. Trapper found them several hours (and a $10 charge for parking) later, camped in Pinnacle State Park. There was man-talk. Trapper...I'm shootin' a Hawkin in...

Sep 30, 2011 - North Little Rock, AR

This is the second day of three scheduled consecutive driving days for Larry. We try to avoid three consecutive days because it's very tiring for the driver! BUT - If you're headed home after having been gone since mid-May you are anxious to move along a little quicker than you might otherwise. On this stretch, we crossed the Mississippi River and happened to see a couple of barges (pictured) headed up river. And we saw field after field of cotton that looked like it was ready for picking. We knew I-40 would be loaded with truckers because...

Apr 28, 2010 - North Little Rock, Arkansas

We had so much fun in Paducah with my sister, Dottie and her husband, Mark. We were there for a week, but the time went so fast. We played a lot of cards and Dominoes. On one of our days we got to go geo-caching, but I kept forgetting to take any pictures. We did really well with our hunts. We got 6 out of 7 and got to see a lot of the beautiful farmland and ranchland around their house. Kentucky is such a beautiful State. One evening when we were out at Dot and Marks, Mark rented “Avatar”. I love that movie and hope Jennifer has it, when...

The Frugal Travelers

Sep 21, 2009 - Bill and Hillary

A nostalgic visit to the Clinton Presidential Library & Museum in Little Rock - Monday, September 21 The tee shirts in the store say “I Miss Bill” and a number of them are signed by the famous and the not so famous and are hung up on the wall. Having just come from the Clinton Presidential Library & Museum those words echoed my feelings too. I miss the easy smile and the confidence to let criticism roll like water off a duck. I miss the intelligence, the quick grasp of the issues, and the ability to put them into historical perspective. I...

2009 Spring 2 Fall

Sep 7, 2009 - Aug. 16-19, 2009 North Little Rock, AR

Trails End RV Park Park just off the interstate but wasn't noisy. About an 1 and 1/2 drive from here is Batesville and the home of Mark Martin, NASCAR driver. Mark owns several dsealerships in the area but the Ford dealership has a racing museum in it. Outside is one of his #6 Valvoline cars that he drove several years ago. Inside is a truck and a several cars from different racing series as well as trophies that he has earned over the years. We saw some great photos of Mark and his family.

Oct 27, 2008 - Day 49 Foss OK to North Little Rock AR

Day 49 (Mon. 10/27) Long drive today....7 hours. Tried to go to a KOA here in North Little Rock AR but it was geared more towards RV's and had only 2 really small tent sites. Besides, the lady at the office wasn't very nice or helpful. So we opted for a HoJo down the road that was Okay. Looked like it was the nicest and biggest Motel in it's day (60's) with a huge indoor atrium with a pool, night club, sauna, restaurant etc. FYI: This will be the last entry for this trip. Our last couple of days will be fairly uneventful with driving long...
