Sep 16, 2009 - Leg 41, Nebraska City, NE, to Home (Sunday), September 13, 2009

Home We departed Nebraska City at 8:30 AM, looking forward to our drive home after traveling almost 10,000 miles and being gone 81 days. Nebraska City is located near the northern Missouri border, so we quickly found ourselves on I-29 in Missouri. Missouri has the best highways of any state we traveled this summer. We made a couple of rest stops, and bade farewell to the Todds just north of Kansas City. We filled up with gasoline at Gainesville, MO, paying $2.199 per gallon, our cheapest fuel of the trip, arriving home at 5:45 PM. We found...

Jun 24, 2009 - No More Pre-Trip Planning

D-3, Monday, June 22, 2009 With the intense heat in north central Arkansas, any outside work must occur early, while it is still moderately cool. Kay finished a next-to-last appointment, giving us an extra day, Wednesday. We decided to check into leaving a day early, but the campgrounds at Custer State Park in South Dakota are booked solid, eliminating our adding a day on the front end of our already 3 days there, bouncing us back to our original departure day of Thursday. We’re doing “make do” work, killing time before departure, which...

LONG DRIVE Despite sleeping late, for us, we got on the road by 8 AM. The big question of the day was whether to drive straight home or stop for the night. We opted to drive until we got tired. As we got up to road speed, a crosswind of 25 mph, gusting to 35 mph, blasted us all the way to the Arkansas state line. Driving through the Arkansas, we concluded Ad driving, reaching home at 8:45 PM.

May 10, 2008 - The BEAR is Back?

We awoke to coffee, and were just about ready to begin the rigors of packing when Carma called for their morning pick-up. Though the bass tournament had begun at 7 AM this morning, the parking lot was relatively empty. Wonder if it was all the warning tickets the rangers wrote yesterday? After returning Carma and Gerald to their campsite with 8 fish, we began cleaning and packing and pulled out of the campground at 8:53 AM, stopped for gas in Mountain View (9.1 mpg, all in the mountains), and made it home at about 11 AM. We quickly unpacked...

Apr 24, 2008 - First Trip of Spring 2008

After returning in early February as Winter Texans, we experienced 1 tornado, 2 large snows, 2 ice storms, and 2 historic floods, all at or near our home base. With our US Army Corps of Engineers Upper White River Basin lakes at historic levels and several business items to take care of in central Arkansas, we decided to escape to the Little Rock area for a short RV trip. We packed up DunnGone and headed toward Little Rock for an extended ‘week’ of wedding shower, memorial service in Lake Hamilton, and Kaden’s band concert in Benton. We...

Aug 29, 2007 - Home at Last

WHAT A TRIP!Today is the final leg of our trip. We drove from St. Joseph, MO, to Dick and Carolyn Todd’s place in Mountain Home, AR, parked the trailer, and unloaded some necessities. It rained periodically on the way home. All said, we drove 1720 miles home from Glacier National Park in MT, and averaged 9.8 mpg. That’s just over 175.5 gallons of gasoline for the return trip home; we're supporting the oil industry. We're glad to be home!

Aug 1, 2007 - Heading West

OUR FIRST LONG RV TRIP The time has finally arrived for our first long journey in an RV. Our current RV is a 2006 Jayco Feather Light 29N, and we pull it with a 5.4 L, 2005 F150 truck. We departed the house in Norfork, AR, about 7:30 a.m., stopped for gas and fast food breakfast, then on to the Todd's to pick up the RV. We departed the Todd's at 9:10 a.m. headed for Buffalo, WY, via Springfield, Kansas City, and St. Joseph, MO, the first day. We used Good Sam Club routing for the trip and they routed us through the heart of Kansas City. It...
