Oct 7, 2018 - Football Saturday and last Sunday on Norfork

Today is next to last morning here on the island. Cranfield Point has been a great place to be. It would have been better if it had been a little cooler but it has not been untenable. While here we have been given the opportunity to enjoy nature a little more than we have in the past. Every morning during our walk we can hear squirrels barking in the trees, woodpeckers in the trees, the wind moving through the trees and the view from our zero gravity chairs when we finish is unbelievable. We have thoroughly enjoyed being here and would come...

Oct 5, 2018 - Busy, Busy, Busy...to some extent

Up at a reasonable hour on Thursday. Off on our early morning Ziva nature walk. Since we have now walked this route several times we were comfortable letting her walk with the long leash...the extendable one that will go out about 25 feet. However, this lets her get a quick jump on squirrels...if we should see one. Yeah, right, we see about 20 every walk. Well on the first one, she almost got it...I mean less than three feet before the squirrel got up the tree. Oh, she was feisty after that effort. Our walk was the longest to date. We are...

Oct 3, 2018 - Two lost ballgames, two lost nights...

Well, I am sitting here writing on my update of my travels knowing that I wasted the last two nights. I spent too much time to hear the words that are still all too familiar...Cubs Lose, Cubs Lose! Well, that they did, they lost two in a row at home and are now out of the post season. AND, last night it was midnight before they finally lost...in the 13th inning. And that really messed up today. Ziva's walk did not take place until 9:00 a.m. Breakfast did not take place until 10:00 a.m. and finally our next meal was about 5:30 p.m...So,...

Sep 30, 2018 - 1st Weekend on Norfork

The campground filled up Friday. Almost all the sites, both first come first serve sites as well as the reserved sites, had someone in them Friday or Saturday night. We were able to watch the ebb and flow of occupied and unoccupied sites in our walks with Ziva. The loop of about 1/2 mile takes us by most all of the sites down on the lower elevation of the island. Well, Saturday started by watching the US choke on the Ryder Cup. Almost embarrassing, but for sure not a great example of how well this team can play. Oh well, it has only been...

Sep 28, 2018 - Two Beautiful Days

Thursday was a quiet, stay at the Bus day. We got several things done. We got set up outside on our fourth day in the site. We got the site blown and cleaned up the leaves and stray gravels. We got the zero gravity chairs positioned to see the lake and out of the sun. We got the chairs set up on the mat and in front of the outside television. We got the tablecloth on the outside table and we got the Traegar out for our use. We had been to the store on Wednesday so we had lunch meat for the sandwiches we ate outside. Sue marinated some...

Sep 26, 2018 - First two full days on Cranfield Point

We got a slow start on Tuesday. Ziva and I went on a long 25 minute (half a mile +) walk to start our morning. Then it was time for breakfast. Our normal routine is I fix my breakfast and then Sue prepares her breakfast. Then we doodle around and make sure we are prepared for the day by noonish. We are getting hooked on "In the Heat of the Night" television shows again. We are enjoying watching them in the middle of the day. I went about 2:00 and grabbed a burger for my lunch. We need to go find some sandwich meat. The meat I purchased at...

Sep 24, 2018 - Moving Day

As I was up and walking this morning I decided it was time to share one of the stories I have heard while here. I took a picture down the side of one of the hillsides just down from where we're parked here in Wanderlust. However, it goes on down the side of the hillside, which is rather steep and is probably 80 to 100 yards down the hillside. The next picture is of the old GMC classic motorhome that made that dive. You can see the tarp over the windshield area and the new V shaped bumper. No real significance to this story but it is amazing...

Dec 15, 2012 - Blue Heron RV Park

Today we decided to drive to Mountain Home, Arkansas, about 60 miles from Branson. We went to check out the Blue Heron RV Park. The campground we are staying in is closing at the end of the month. We have been checking out other campgrounds in the area to move to on or before December 31st. We loved the park itself, it is located right on the White River and would be perfect for fishing for Jerry, but we decided we would rather stay closer to the Branson area. I am adding pictures of the sites there for one of our readers who requested...

Jul 21, 2006 - Heber Springs & Batesville, Arkansas

Enough chilling & relaxing, even if the temperatures remained hot, hot, hot. For two days, we chilled & relaxed, but this morning, Vicki said something about going riding. As soon as she did, I was surveying the maps, finding a general direction in which to point the front wheel. Before I chat about today's ride, just a quick catch-up of the past 2 days........OK, that is it. Seriously, we haven't done anything worth writing about, so I won't belabor the point any further. We did enjoy a chat this morning with our campground neighbors of...

Apr 26, 2006 - Staying at Golden Pond

April 23- Left Mt. View around 10:30 this morning and took Highway 9 down to Shirley, AR. Not a long trip, but lots of hills and curves. We intended to go on to Conway and stay at Toad Suck COE park on the Arkansas River, but knew that there was a Coast to Coast park near Shirley and thought we would check it out. Of course the $6/day fee might have had some influence on the decision.:) Anyway, we found the park just out of town on the way to Fairfield Bay. The park is Golden Pond (Appropriate for two old folks I guess!) No one was in the...

Apr 23, 2006 - Camping with the Arkansas Camper Dancers

April 20 - We departed Maumelle Thursday morning and stopped off in Cabot just long enough to pick up our mail and get a perscription filled. Then it was off to Mt. View to camp with our Arkansas Camper Dancer group. This was the first camping group we had joined some 10-11 years ago when we bought our first RV. We had been square dancers for 20 years or more and saw this group as a great way to combine two activities that we really enjoyed. Anyway, we have many dear friends in the club and love to camp with them every chance we get. Since...
