Jun 3, 2012 - Wonderful Day in the Neighborhood

My quote for the day: "if things get better with age, then I am approaching MAGNIFICIENT!" Birthday wishes came in yesterday and today from family and friends. Thanks, everyone! As I told my brother I have already gotten lots of cards....new supplemental insurance card, Part D Pharmacy card, Medicare card!!! It has been a great day. Lunch with family in Ft. Smith; Trisha grilled burgers for dinner at her house. Glen, Brady and I enjoyed a bike ride. We finished at the high school batting cage where Jeff, Trisha's friend, and his son Landon...

Jun 2, 2012 - Spending Time with Family

We spend most of the afternoon with Trisha, and Brady. Tanner had been invited to a birthday party. Tanner is spending the night with his friend. Tonight Brady, Glen and I went to dinner at Cheddar's. It's a good thing Brady and I shared a sandwich. The "Monte Cristo" is big and rich. We then walked around "Dick's Sporting Goods" to shake down the supper calories. We found Teva sandals for all of us-- on sale. The shoes were the only things that caught our eye. Well, except for the shotguns that Brady and Glen "window shopped". Brady is...

Jun 1, 2012 - "Trigger Happy" ***Greenwood Fairground, AR

Brady, our nearly 15-year old, just finished eighth-grade, grandson and his clay-shooting team, "Trigger Happy", qualified in regionals for shooting at the state level. The team won the first round but did not the second round. Greenwood Schools had seven teams of five qualify for the state level. There are several other teams sponsored by the school, also. Brady discovered "clay shooting" a year ago. Much to our surprise he picked it up and seems to be a "natural" shooter. We are proud that as a first-year shooter he was on a team that...

May 16, 2012 - This week's pictures

This is an assortment of pictures taken through the week. Jeff needed to fly to Tulsa to pick up his co-pilot Robert (for the jet) and invited Glen and Ashlynn to be passengers for the trip. Jeff and Robert departed in a Westwind jet from Ft. Smith to take a client to a Lakers at Oklahoma City basketball game tonight. Zade and I, Gayla, waited at the airport. The entire trip was about 90 minutes in the prop plane. Ashlynn did great on her first flight until the last ten minutes. Hot sun and clear skies equals bumpy ride. She was pale and...

May 16, 2012 - Oh, my, where has the time gone? Why, why, why, why?????

Early to bed and early to rise...makes Mimi and Poppy tired! Maybe the energy level of a nearly-four year old, Zade, and Ashlynn, 5 3/4, have something to do with it! The week has been full of visits with Aunt Trisha, and cousins Brady and Tanner. Brady, nearly 15, at 6'2" looks like Goliath to Zade's height! Ashlynn and Tanner adore their cousins. If Tanner can do it, then Zade will try it. Yesterday riding down the street on the bikes Tanner was standing up riding his bike; Zade says, "look at me" and he was standing up riding on his...

May 11, 2012 - Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? ***Greenwood, AR; Sebastain Co. Fairgrounds

Just how many times a day can a three--nearly 4--year old grandson ask "why?" per day?? Answer: too many too count! :} I had forgotten just what an important part of a conversation is "why?"! So far, so good! There has been no mention of "mom" or "dad". Ashlynn and Zade both travel well, eat well, take naps, play together. Yesterday we picked up Ash and Zade from "school", traveled I-55 south to I-40 west to Lonoke, AR. Our oldest grandson, Brady, age 14, 8th grader, shoots on a trap-shooting team sponsored by the school. He is a...

Mar 31, 2012 - Finishing Touches and Trap Shooting

Glen and Trisha worked during the morning putting on the finishing touches in the master bath. They hung the light fixtures over the mirror, installed towel racks, and hung pictures. Great job! This afternoon Brady, our oldest grandson, 14 3/4, eighth grade, had a trap shooting team practice. This is his first year at trap shooting. He consistently has the high score. Grammy is bragging! There are five rounds with five shots each round. It was great fun watching him enjoying this sport. It was our (Glen and I) first time to watch trap...

Mar 30, 2012 - Almost Done

More painting. Enough said. Painting done. Project almost finished. Everything has been painted...rolled and cut in/trimmed. Light fixtures are not up. Light switches are not on wall. The decision was made to let it dry overnight before putting the lights back on the wall. There is a light texture on the wall. I am sure there will be some additional painting needed on some of the valleys or mountains! The main thing: our daughter loves, loves, loves the color. Remember it is called "red theatre". She has some wall decor and new towel racks...

Mar 29, 2012 - DIY Channel

It was the DIY (Do It Yourself) channel at Trisha's house. No camera crews but her dad hard at work! He prepped the master bath by using the caulk gun on all the edges and sanded the trim boards, then primed the walls. We were expecting the priming color to be the same or near the color of the finish color. The prime color as suggested by Sherwin Williams was a blue gray. The finish color is titled "red theatre". Glen did all of the roller painting; I did trim work around doorways, baseboards, corners. Glen finished the trim work where the...

Mar 28, 2012 - Motorhome, light fixtures, and broken bones (not us)

The "Daddy-do" List that I mentioned yesterday is shorter tonight! Glen replaced/installed two light fixtures today. He used the weed-eater in the yard (while someone else mowed); sanded two window sills, prepping for painting. This morning he took the motorhome to a mechanic in Ft. Smith to have the air conditioning system checked. I think I mentioned previously that the a/c was not cooling on trip to here. The good news: the compressor is still working. There was no freon in the system which means there is a leak somewhere. New freon and...

Mar 27, 2012 - Not a "honey do" list but a "Daddy Do..." List

It was heart-filling seeing our family last night. The grandsons: Brady, nearly 15, 8th grade, 6 feet 2 inches tall; Tanner, nearly 12, 6th grade, and 5'4" or so...are so grown up and big and changing. It's a familiar tale to other grandparents, I am sure, that haven't seen the grandchildren in four months. Today Glen took the pick up to Ft. Smith to have it serviced. Mission accomplished. Other things on the list included: picking up light fixture for the dining room; picking up paint for the bathroom; stopping at WalMart for bug spray...

Mar 26, 2012 - Made it to Arkansas......(Greenwood, AR**)

We started the morning at M & G Engineering, Athens, Texas. M&G installed a "permanently mounted auxilliary braking system" for the pick up. This replaces the "Brake Buddy" unit which was placed in the floor under the steering wheel each time the truck was towed. Connecting the braking system consists of hooking an airhose between the motorhome and the pick up....a much easier procedure. Glen says he can tell the system works as advertised. Glen was very pleased with the system today. Work was started at eight and we were on the road by...
