It is hot. And not California desert hot but mid-west 100*+ humidity hot. It is impossible to spend much time outside. In the evening, when it finally cools to a high 70’s, you don’t dare go outside because the bug population is out - with a vengeance. Thank goodness for air conditioning, satellite TV and the Internet! In our five years of full-time RVing, there have been two states we have somehow missed touring – Arkansas and Kentucky. Oct 13, 2012 - Tour of Fort Smith

As it turned out a weather front was headed straight for us (tornado watch!) so we decided to stay an extra day and night and not move into the eye of the storm. This way it allowed us to actually tour the fort and a historically registered Brothel. That Saturday night was quite an experience. We were on tornado watch until midnight. The rain came down in buckets and the campground we were in was a mud mess the next morning as we prepared to leave headed into Oklahoma.

Oct 12, 2012 - Van Buren, Arkansas and Fort Smith

Since the weather was very rainy, we drove through another historical town called Van Buren. It is very well restored. Then we went ahead and drove over to the Fort Smith location in the pouring rain. We ended up in a TERRIFIC museum! There is lots of history connected with this area, and the "hanging judge" Judge Parker. This area is the back drop for the movie True Grit.
