Jul 2, 2009 - Hunting for diamonds

Spring Break,2009 We left Texas with 4 grandsons, ages 10, 10, 6 & 6, at the start of Spring Break and headed for Murfreesboro, Arkansas to hunt for diamonds. It had rained the week before so the field was pretty messy. We slipped and got our shoes stuck a lot. We stayed for 4 days and came back empty handed, but the boys had a great time and did manage to come back with lots of great looking rocks. Next time we'll go hunt for crystals!

May 26, 2009 - Crater of Diamonds

Today is Diamond digging day. We left the campgrounds around 10 am, to go digging. Wow, there was so much dirt and mud everywhere. We watched a video and was explained to about how to look for Diamonds. Then we walked out really far and found a place to settle into. Denton was in muddy water up to his theighs. He had mud in his hair, on his face, in his ears, everywhere. Hakan did not want to get too dirty, he said it was a lot to clean off later. We dug for a little over 4 hours, but both boys found a Diamond. Dentons' is a 7 point...

Apr 1, 2009 - Murfreesboro, AR - Crater of Diamonds State Park

We arrived here at Crater of Diamonds State Park about 1:30 p.m. Monday and camp set up was quick and easy. I was even able to find the satellite with minimal trouble. Cell phone reception is sporadic, sometimes good; sometimes not so good. The sites here were designed a long time ago and are very small though they do have good separation. Tuesday, we did a little hiking along the river trail which goes down to the Little Missouri River and parallels it for a short distance. All of the waterways in this area are full and running due to the...

Apr 27, 2008 - Crater of Diamonds

042708 we got up with excitement (at least Greg the diamond prospector did) as we were off to the Crater of Diamonds today. The trip to the State Park was uneventful although it started to rain as the morning went on. Ginny did see and take some pictures of some of the redneck yards that we saw. We figured we owe our reading public. We pulled into the state park in a light rain and got our site. First problem, it was one of those very short throw tight turn sites to get into. Greg had to put the truck into 4 wheel drive at one point as he...

Nov 25, 2006 - Arkansas..diamonds?

We visited the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas but alas...we did not find our retirement diamond! ;) "J" had fun learning how to sluice (not sure if I got that right) to clean out dirt over and over until you end up with gravel and rocks. We did take home some little souvenir pieces of Jasper and quartz but no diamonds. "K" was the one that had the most fun of all...she played in the dirt and mud until she was practically covered in it. I had to hose her down before she got in the car.

Jun 21, 2006 - Crater of Diamonds

We have broken our trip into short segments of about 150 miles each and it is working very nicely. We arrive at our next destination feeling more rested and having time to really enjoy life which is what it is all about. We got to Crater of Diamonds State Park Wednesday afternoon and had to wait for the site to be vacated. Their check-out time is 3:00 p.m. and the people in our site were waiting until then. We were able to pull into a holding spot and plug in so the refrigerator and airconditioner could keep working. After unhitching, we...
