Oct 19, 2017 - Last day in State Park

Oct 19, 2017 (Thursday) Today is our last full day in the park. Landyn and I went hunting for diamonds again today. Unfortunately we didn’t have any luck again. However, it was fun trying. When we were leaving one of the park employees said no one had found anything all week and that was very unusual. I have found watching some of the other RVer’s trying to back into their sites makes me feel better about my backing. I'm watching a guy now and he has pulled back out of the site 6 times and started over trying to back into the site. He...

Oct 17, 2017 - Hunting for Diamonds

Oct 17, 2017 (Tuesday) We went hunting for Diamonds today. Unfortunately, we didn’t have any luck. There are 2 ways you can hunt for the diamonds. You can walk the fields looking for them on top of the ground or you can load up a bucket of dirt and sift the dirt and look for diamonds. Landyn enjoyed doing it both ways. In the afternoon it started getting hot so, we went back to the RV, cleaned up and then went into town. Landyn wanted to go shopping for souvenirs to take back home for gifts. She reminded me so much of her papa. She likes...

Oct 16, 2017 - Diamond State Park

Oct 16, 2017 (Monday) We arrived at Diamond State Park today. The sites are all back-in sites and I was nervous about getting backed in. Landyn guided me while I back into the space. She did a great job. I told her I was going to have to take her on all my trips. After we got set up Landyn started exploring in the woods around our site. She build a hut out of items she found in the woods. She did a great job on it.

Apr 7, 2017 - Fixed and Moving, Farewell Texas

Today was much better than yesterday! Good Sam Roadside Assistance got us a repairman to us before 10am and he said the hose had let go, so it just had to be reattached. Unfortunately, he couldn't get it to stay and had to make us a new hose, and his shop was almost an hour each way! At least it wasn't a broken solenoid, so a couple hours later and a few hundred dollars, and we were on the road by 1:30, happy campers. We noticed the vegetation was very different from yesterday. We noticed that now it was very similar to Ontario (tall pines...

Texas Again

Sep 7, 2014 - Crater of Diamonds State Park

We did our best to find our fortune today. We paid our $8.00 admission fee, rented a kit which consisted of a two piece sifting box, a shovel, and a bucket. We also opted for a padded kneeling pad for me. Denis brought his knee pads and we also had gloves. We watched a geologist show us what we were looking for (white, yellow, brown diamonds) and the proper way to use the sifting boxes. We headed out to the 37 acre, that is right, 37 acres of dirt. We did our best to search in places where the rain might have washed the dirt away leaving a...

Sep 6, 2014 - Branson to Crater of the Diamonds State Park

Of all the nice drives we have had on this trip, the drive from Branson, Missouri to Murfeesburo, Arkansas has to rank as one of the best. While one of the shortest (267 miles), it was one of the longest at 7.5 hours. We traveled through the eastern edge of the Ozarks through small towns and winding, forest lined roads. At Hot Springs, Arkansas we approached a wye in the road. We knew where we wanted to go but hadn't checked out the best route through town. We found ourselves going through the narrow main street in the middle of the...

May 27, 2013 - Gilbert to Crater of Diamonds, AR

We left the cute little community of Gilbert, with all of its 33 people, at 8:30 this morning. It was hot and humid; already 75 degrees at 8:00! I really like Arkansas. All the people we've met are super friendly and I love the scenery. We were on our way to Crater of Diamonds, in the southwestern part of Arkansas. Every little town we went through had LOTS of flags out, of course it was Memorial Day, but I saw more flags in these little towns than I've ever seen before. One thing we found a little strange, but probably only because we are...

Jul 2, 2009 - Hunting for diamonds

Spring Break,2009 We left Texas with 4 grandsons, ages 10, 10, 6 & 6, at the start of Spring Break and headed for Murfreesboro, Arkansas to hunt for diamonds. It had rained the week before so the field was pretty messy. We slipped and got our shoes stuck a lot. We stayed for 4 days and came back empty handed, but the boys had a great time and did manage to come back with lots of great looking rocks. Next time we'll go hunt for crystals!

May 26, 2009 - Crater of Diamonds

Today is Diamond digging day. We left the campgrounds around 10 am, to go digging. Wow, there was so much dirt and mud everywhere. We watched a video and was explained to about how to look for Diamonds. Then we walked out really far and found a place to settle into. Denton was in muddy water up to his theighs. He had mud in his hair, on his face, in his ears, everywhere. Hakan did not want to get too dirty, he said it was a lot to clean off later. We dug for a little over 4 hours, but both boys found a Diamond. Dentons' is a 7 point...

Apr 1, 2009 - Murfreesboro, AR - Crater of Diamonds State Park

We arrived here at Crater of Diamonds State Park about 1:30 p.m. Monday and camp set up was quick and easy. I was even able to find the satellite with minimal trouble. Cell phone reception is sporadic, sometimes good; sometimes not so good. The sites here were designed a long time ago and are very small though they do have good separation. Tuesday, we did a little hiking along the river trail which goes down to the Little Missouri River and parallels it for a short distance. All of the waterways in this area are full and running due to the...

Apr 27, 2008 - Crater of Diamonds

042708 we got up with excitement (at least Greg the diamond prospector did) as we were off to the Crater of Diamonds today. The trip to the State Park was uneventful although it started to rain as the morning went on. Ginny did see and take some pictures of some of the redneck yards that we saw. We figured we owe our reading public. We pulled into the state park in a light rain and got our site. First problem, it was one of those very short throw tight turn sites to get into. Greg had to put the truck into 4 wheel drive at one point as he...

Nov 25, 2006 - Arkansas..diamonds?

We visited the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas but alas...we did not find our retirement diamond! ;) "J" had fun learning how to sluice (not sure if I got that right) to clean out dirt over and over until you end up with gravel and rocks. We did take home some little souvenir pieces of Jasper and quartz but no diamonds. "K" was the one that had the most fun of all...she played in the dirt and mud until she was practically covered in it. I had to hose her down before she got in the car.
