May 29, 2019 - Another week and rising water...
One whole week has gone by since we moved to Forest Lake Mobil Home Park. And it is a good thing we did. We have driven out to the bridge over the lock and dam twice since we moved here. The first time it was just about to enter the campgrounds. The second trip which was three days later it was in the campground and the roofs on the pavilions and the picnic tables at the campsites were just barely out of the water. There was an area on the other side of the bridge where they were filling sand bags. There were about 40 people there working....Jump to full entry
May 22, 2019 - And another week has gone by...
A lot has happened and there have been internet connection issues, so I have not posted in about eight days or so. I will not try to cover anything but the highlights so as not to bore anyone reading this or put me to sleep trying to remember. Thursday was our last day in LR last week and we took care of a few issues and got ready to move on Friday. Friday got a little busy. We were up early to get the Bus ready to move before I headed for a hair cut and a pedicure...or combat pay as Cyrena calls it.. Our appointment was at 9:00 a.m. We...Jump to full entry
May 1, 2019 - It's raining AGAIN !!
I know this summer folks here in Arkansas will be begging for rain...but for right now, there has been too much. I think April ended up about 10 inches above normal. And from the looks of the standing water that was around the Bus this morning (from the time I got up until after lunch) there were at least three to four inches up on the rear passenger tires. We have been busy when it was not raining and then having trouble staying awake when it was raining. Monday we started off slowly and awaiting Beth's report on her Strep Throat. The...Jump to full entry
Apr 28, 2019 - The week that was....
Tuesday we stayed around the Bus until we headed for Beth's a little after noon. Sue went with Beth to the surgeon's office in North Little Rock. I ran out and tried to find a spring I lost on the string trimmer of Jeff's. This was not an easy to accomplish project. Sue and Beth were back around 3:00. I picked up Katie and Hannah and we were back to Beth's a little after 3:30. Dinner and we were back at the Bus before naptime and bedtime. Beth's visit to the doctor set up the approximate times for her surgeries later this summer and the...Jump to full entry
Apr 22, 2019 - Finally it stopped raining...
Finally, there was no rain falling from the sky. And maybe that was sunshine we saw...or maybe not...it has been a while. To pick up from Thursday night, the baseball game won out and I stayed with it to the end. And, a HOG victory...WooHoo! ! ! Friday it was how to stay out of the standing water. We were out and around with a little shopping, stopping by Beth's to check on Nebula, the cat, and watching for deliveries we expected from Amazon. Friday night was rice, gravy and cube steak...another WooHoo that went well with Caesar salad and...Jump to full entry
Apr 18, 2019 - Rain, Rain & more Rain...
After the rainy and stormy weekend, Tuesday was a beautiful day. But it was just a joke because more rain (storms) were in the forecast. Wednesday was cloudy and you could feel the oncoming storms by Wednesday afternoon. By Wednesday about midnight the rain and the storms were here with a vengeance. Heavy rain, hail and high winds really tried to keep us awake. It kept Sue awake and I managed to doze and sleep through most of the storms. And, today (Thursday) has been totally miserable. Rain to heavy rain and finally a slow drizzle as I...Jump to full entry
Apr 15, 2019 - My Masters break is over...
I will confess I have enjoyed the last five days. It has been Masters time. We have always enjoyed the Masters Golf Tournament. It is extremely special since we were there for two days back in 2007. Every shot we discuss if we were there on that particular part of the course and where we sat or stood. It was a great time and when possible we enjoy diving into all the coverage during the tournament. Every day was the same. One television was on the Golf Channel. When it was appropriate (Thursday and Friday) we also had ESPN on and of course...Jump to full entry
Apr 10, 2019 - Four day catch up...
Busy, distracted, tired or some other reason has kept me from keeping current on this site. However, it is time for me to catch up on a few items so we can get and stay current. Sunday was a slow day. We watched a little television, probably took a few naps (Sue needed it as her coughing was getting worse) and hosted Beth during the mid afternoon. She and StanLee came out to let him visit with Ziva on her turf and see if we could get them acclimated. After about an hour and a half, I am not sure how it worked out. One moment they are fine,...Jump to full entry
Apr 6, 2019 - Back to Arkansas...
We made it back with no more drama and for sure no issues. We are here in central Arkansas for a couple of months. Beth started her chemo therapy on Monday so we will be close and help where ever we can through this trying period for them and us. We are set up at Toadsuck COE Park just across the Arkansas River from Conway. Thursday morning at Carthage, TX we got up and started getting around knowing that rain was imminent. Getting dressed, eating and stowing everything for travel was done as quickly and efficiently as possible. Then all...Jump to full entry
Oct 3, 2018 - Toad Suck cg
Today was a travel day- 478 miles from the flat brown Texas panhandle to the green trees and grass of middle Arkansas. We stopped at the Toad Suck corps of engineers campsite right on the Arkansas river. We can see the locks on the river and supposedly barges come through it. Electric and water for $10, not bad. The host said it was named Toad Suck because years ago, there was a tavern here on the banks and people would drink so much that they swelled up like toads.Jump to full entry
Aug 11, 2017 - Russellville to Conway - Friday
Well, it was a DELUGE today – rain, rain, rain for about 2 hours. We pulled off the road and it turns out we are at an indoor flea market (our lucky dinosaur and our lucky duck peanut are still working). The TREASURE ISLAND FLEA MARKET in Plumerville was a little gold mine for us. It was here we made our “find of the day” – a vintage 12 month old boys London Fog Coat – it is the cutest, most precious little thing I have ever seen. We did bring our umbrellas and our big rubber boots, which came in handy today! After the rain stopped, Gene...Jump to full entry
Apr 15, 2017 - Progress Across Tornado Alley
Sorry – I am having problems posting photos. Maybe later? Friday: a little over 300 miles over somewhat boring I-40 to Weatherford, OK. We had cross and quartering wind the entire trip. We parked on our friend Ken’s property, he has a full hook-up. Nope, not telling you where – LOL! We went out to dinner with Ken and his new wife, Toni, and our friends Ronnie (Ken’s brother) and Evelyn. We went to Lucille’s Roadhouse, which when it was in its original location, served the travelers along Route 66 back in the day. It was very good diner...Jump to full entry
