May 9, 2012 - Rocky Point COE Park at DeGray Lake

May 7 to May 9 We moved on Monday, May 7 from Queen City to Arkadelphia, AR to the DeGray Lake Corps of Engineer Park “Caddo Lake”. We spent a few hours searching several COE parks around the lake before we could find a level spot. Gayle and Earl, friends from Escapee’s, joined us for the night. They have a diesel pusher and needed a large and as level a spot as we could find. They are on their way from Sherman, TX to Virginia for their granddaughters college graduation. Gayle cooked a delicious crockpot meal so when they arrived and after...

Nov 23, 2011 - Still heading home

We left this morning before daylight and in fog. Not very good driving conditions for a couple of hours. But we did make it 530 miles today. Butch finally let me drive this RV. I started to feel comfortable driving, then we came upon road construction and I had to drive in the other lane with just a dividerbetween me and oncoming cars. I went about 9miles like that, then ASAP I got off and gave it back to him. Getting through Dallas was interesting. Starting with Ft. Worth and ending on east side of Dallas was about 65 miles. Luckily, we...

Nov 2, 2011 - Arkadelphia, AR 11/2/11

11-2-11 Arkedelphia, AR Last week was a whirlwind of activities! We got a late start at Dollywood, as our bus driver took a short cut, missed a turn, and we ended up going on a narrow road into a "holler". When he tried to turn around, the right rear tires got stuck in a ditch and we waited for another bus to rescue us. We arrived and discovered that Dollywood has grown and is still growing into a very large park. They are currently building the largest roller coaster in Tennessee. We walked around and did some exploring. There are still a...

Feb 17, 2010 - Day #3

Let Mt. Vernon IL and drove south in a beautifu morning, still -6 and lots of snow. Finally at Cairo IL, as we crossed the Mississippi, the thermometer rose to +1 and the snow disappeared and, true to the predictions, temp continued to rise to + 14 by late afternoon at Arkadelphia AK where we bunked in for hopefully our last night in a Days Inn. Predicted -4 cooled our desire to open up the trailer at DeGray Lake State Park as we & others have done before. Our keen o

Spring 2010

Jul 3, 2009 - First Stop - Arkadelphia, AR

We left home around 9:15 A.M. and arrived in Arkadelphia, AR around 6:45. It was a long drive but an uneventful one. The rest stops were full of travelers due to the holiday weekend, but luckily the traffic wasn't too heavy. For those who don't know, we're minus one dog on our trip. Unfortunately, we had to put Lucky to sleep yesterday. So all three of us (Danielle, Jay and Duke) used today to adjust to the change. We'll really miss Lucky on this trip, as he was a great travel companion. The weather here is as hot as it was at home... in...

May 22, 2009 - Elizabethtown, Kentucky

Made it to Elizabethtown, KY, home of Fort Knox, and past home of the Pinder's during my Army days. We are at the Elizabeth Cross Roads Campground with very easy access to the town. We went into the Stone Hearth Restaurant for dinner at the recommendation of our daughter, Kathi. We really enjoyed the meal and I'm still stuffed. Tomorrow we go out to Mackville to meet Donna and Victor at their farm and then go to Willisburg for a collection of garage sales.

Pinder's On the Road

May 21, 2009 - Tennessee

We made it to Jackson, Tennessee today. There must have been a lot of rain here this week. All the rivers and streams are over their banks. The Mississippi has flooded all the lowland areas on the Arkansas side of the river. This must be a normal thing since there are no buildings or farm land in that area. The only problems today were very minor ones. First I had to unhook the car in order to get out of a service station and then I had to unhook it again getting into the camp site. No big deal, just irritating. Tomorrow, we will be in...

Pinder's On the Road

May 20, 2009 - Arkansas

We are finally out of Texas and into Arkansas, the birthplace of Bill Clinton, and I don't know of anybody else! We are spending tonight at the Arkadelphia Campground in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. We've stayed here before and it has improved somewhat, even though it was nice before. Pat is busy doing the laundry. No problems to report today, thankfully.

Pinder's On the Road

Dec 1, 2008 - Another Travel Day

We started out this morning with a temperature of 36, and still very windy. About half way through the trip today it warmed up to 46 degrees. We are in a place called Arkadelphia, Arkansas. The RV Park has the same name. We stayed here last spring for a few days, and really liked it. Not the same this time. To start with he charged me for 2 nights, and not one. Then we needed propane, so he filled the tank and told me it was 25.50, but forgot to give me a statement, so when I went up and asked for one, it was suddenly $34.61. AND, I still...

The Frugal Travelers

Nov 13, 2008 - Arkadelphia, Arkansas

It wasn't raining this morning, so we decided it was time to move on. We noticed some fog over the river, but we thought we would run out of it once we headed west. We were wrong. It was pretty foggy on the Interstate but we could still quite a ways so driving was ok. -- We stopped at the first rest stop a few miles up the road and John said he wasn't feeling well. He has been feeling puny for a couple of days. He said he felt like he was catching a cold but the owner at the park said it was probably allergies since everyone seemed to have...

Pretty Damn Nice!

Jun 20, 2008 - Arkansas - Our first stop

We drove through Texarkana, which is both in Texas and Arkansas. We stopped for diesel fuel in Arkansas since it's less expensive but filling up the RV is quite shocking at $4.54 per gallon! But better than at home where diesel was $4.69 a gallon. We recuperate from the long drive...and fuel costs...by spending the night in Arkadelphia, AR.

Mar 13, 2008 - Arkadelphia, Arkansas...

We made it here alright, but it was a very scary trip. To start with there is high water everywhere in Northern Texas and into Arkansas. Then we discovered the brakes on the rv were malfuctioning. We really don't know what happened or why, but we think it may have to do with contact or continuity. When we bought this truck in Boerne, Texas, we had the brake system transferred into the new-to-us truck from the old truck and our thinking is that the system was not installed correctly or it came loose or something. We have a guy coming...
