Dec 28, 2018 - Christmas in Yuma

We hope and pray that all of you had a blessed Christmas. I am finally sitting down to fill you in on our pre Christmas week around here. Friday the 21rst of December was the Foothills light parade. It was due to start at 6pm so all of us met early to have a cookie or two before we got our places all locked in on the corner of 54th drive and Dorothy street. It has been chilly out, so we were all wearing our coats and hats to keep warm. (I'm sure all our friends in Washington are quite amused by our need for coats and hats!) But our blood...

Dec 26, 2018 - Christmas +

Christmas morning and we slept in...something we have not been able to do on Christmas, or at least that I can remember. Since we had Christmas with the family on Christmas Eve we were good. After breakfast I spent time texting some longtime friends that I had kind of lost contact with over the years. Christmas is a time to remember friends and appreciate those friendships. We spent the day preparing for the Christmas dinner here at the Palms. The Palms was providing a ham for each table and all the other food was provided by those of us...

Dec 24, 2018 - Christmas Eve

At last...Christmas Eve...after two months of Christmas movies this means we must be getting close to regular television returning. WooHoo ! ! ! Now back to today. I was up early to make sure the garbage was set out for pickup. This is the first time since we arrived they have picked up garbage. We have had to take two bags down to the main area dump station, so it was nice for them to pick it up here. After breakfast I took Ziva to the Dog Park. Our neighbors were there with their three dogs and we were later joined by another dog and his...

Dec 23, 2018 - Slow Sunday

Not much to tell about today. Both of us slept in this morning. Both of us had breakfast in our normal course of the morning. Me, early and Sue later. I took Ziva for her early nature walk. We ended up getting hooked on watching John Wayne in "McClintock" as we were trying to get dressed for a trip out of the park, so our departure was delayed as we made sure we saw the end of the movie. We decided to have lunch out and ended up at Applebee's near the commercial district. Since there are three Applebee's in Yuma I am mentioning the...

Dec 22, 2018 - First two days in Yuma

Friday was the time to start setting up the Bus for our seventy plus day stay. But before anything the Bus has a thick layer of grime that needed to come off. A local company that is one of four that can do business inside the Palms was here before 11:00 to get started. The people that wash and clean the RV's have to bring their own water to keep the minerals from scaling on the fresh washed skin. They bring their own spot free water. In our case I called the one that brought their own foaming soap. They started on top and when they started...

Dec 22, 2018 - Full moon event -updated

Marion heard about this event in the pool the other day, came home and told me and I laughed and laughed at the thought of all these people out there in the desert howling. So I said "we gotta go" that sounds crazy. Their facebook page says... Description Every full moon from October to April we have a Howling at the moon out in the desert. We provide music. You bring your friends, drinks, food, chairs and have fun dancing in the desert until the moon comes over the mountains. Everyone stops dancing looks toward the moon and howls. Music...

Dec 20, 2018 - Rest and then to Yuma

Wednesday was a rest day. We had driven 250+ miles per day on three of the last four days. We had extra days built in since we do not trust the weather. We stayed at the Pima County Fairgrounds. It is about a mile off I - 10 and 15 miles SE of downtown Tucson. We were also about 5 miles from Davis Monthan AFB. PCF has about 300+ spaces with hookups. The area where we were located had 50 amp service, good water pressure and sewer hookups. We were also directly in front of the dog park. All in all, it was a great set up for $ 30 per night,...

Dec 17, 2018 - A ChristmasTamale Festival

Saturday we went to the local tamale festival in Summerton. I have learned that Tamales are a Christmas tradition for the Latino community. So when in Roman, you do as the Romans do, right? The tamale festival started at 11:00 so we left early to find a good parking place, if there is such a thing? What a pleasant surprise this festival was. They had Tamale booths for at least a block. You first went and bought tickets for the tamales, which were $2 each, and it was $6 for a lunch plate with beans, macaroni salad, and your tamale of...

Dec 13, 2018 - 2-year travel anniversary!

2-year anniversary December 13th marks the two-year anniversary of our RV adventure on the road! We left Birmingham Alabama on December 13, 2016 after we both retired on August 31st and spent the next 3 months doing a whole house renovation on a house my brother and I inherited from our parents. Once the renovation was done, we packed up the last of our stuff and headed east. We spent the holidays with Adam, Laura and the 5 grandkids in Savannah before heading to Florida to warm up a bit. While we were in Florida, we changed our domicile...

2018 Life in our RV

Dec 12, 2018 - 2019 travel itinerary

We tend to plan our travels based upon the part of the country where we want to spend the summer and winter. Steve doesn't like to be too cold and I don't like to be too hot so we generally try to spend summers in the NW, North or NE, and winters in the South or SW part of the country. This will be no different in 2019 as we plan to summer in New England and winter in/around Georgia. Because we (more Steve actually) are planners, we have already planned out the majority of our travels for 2019. Since we have lots of friends that also travel...

2018 Life in our RV

Dec 11, 2018 - Life in Yuma

After our travel adventures on the way to Yuma, we were happy to settle in to our little slice of heaven (that is how they advertise this place) at The Palms RV Resort in Yuma. We will be here until January 2nd so we will have plenty of time to explore the area. We have already done a few things since we arrived. Now that we have Bill (our Honda Goldwing motorcycle) we are able to do more exploring and sight-seeing than we did when we just had BAT. Sight-seeing on a motorcycle is much more fun than in a one-ton dually truck for sure! One...

2018 Life in our RV

Dec 11, 2018 - Clean up day

Brought some fellas in to wash the trailer and truck. Washing this thing is a task that takes me several hours to do but today I was sitting reading under sunny skies AND now We are not the dirtiest rig in this row anymore. Marion went to chair yoga this morning but missed it,she was an hour to late. Then she was off to her am swimming class followed by line dancing this afternoon. I of course stood guard over our (huge) 40 x 60 ft lot and defended it. This very quiet Resort is exactly 1 mile from the freeway as we watch the traffic coming...
