Jan 6, 2019 - Slow time in the desert

Well it was time for a few slow days. Not totally stopped but at least a slower pace for a few days. Friday was one of those days. Connie stopped by in the late morning and visited for about an hour. We had not had a chance to visit with them since last March when we visited them here in the Palms. It was fun catching up on the last 10 months. She recommended we visit the Arizona Market Place. It was something we had seen on the list of things to do in Yuma earlier in the week so it was good to have confirmation it was worth the trip. After...

Jan 3, 2019 - And the New Year starts...

Wednesday - Up early to take the truck to the local GMC dealership. I am having a rattling issue with the seat they fixed in Conway. My appointment is at 7:30, so for some reason I am up at 6:00 to make my appointment. I am there on time and checked in and seated by 7:50. I am still there at 10:30 but they are going to have it ready for me in a few. I also had an issue with an air leak in one of the tires. Surprisingly it had a nail in it and they were removing the nail and repairing the tire. But, back at the motorhome by 11:15 and an...

Jan 2, 2019 - Laying low due to windy cold front

Not to much going on here this last week because of a cold front. We have been going thru the propane more than usual trying to keep this trailer warm. These things are fine for 10 degrees and above in the cold but anything below that and we have to wear coats and sweaters inside. Even though our temps currently match those of Chilliwack Canada, we would still not go camping in this RV in the winter. Missed the "Iceberg drop" New Years Eve because of rain and wind. Let me explain this iceberg, it is NOT a traditional iceberg but rather a...

Jan 1, 2019 - Happy New Year

Happy New Year to all who read. Today, the first day of 2019, was windy and cool here in Yuma. Definitely not what we wanted when we decided to winter in Yuma. Today was not the most comfortable day to be wandering around outside and it definitely was not a shorts day. Yesterday, the last day of 2018, was a little better. It was cool but the wind was not as strong. We watched football and prepared to go to the New Year's Eve Party here at the Palms. On my mid afternoon trip with Ziva there was one interesting event. Two big doves were...

Jan 1, 2019 - Arizona in the wintertime

Happy New Year! The first day of 2019 finds us in Yuma Arizona, in the very southwestern part of the state - just north of Mexico and just east of California. We came to Yuma in search of warm weather. We need to try harder because it has been unusually cool here. Yuma averages 300 days of sunshine per year and is a mecca for all sorts of winter crops such as cauliflower, cabbage, basil and citrus. We have had lots of sun, but the daytime temperatures have often struggled to get out of the 50s. On Tuesday, we head north about 65 miles to...

2019 Life in our RV

Dec 31, 2018 - Yuma AZ, Our December Adventures

Well now what just happened to December? It just flew by and we’ve almost turned over a new year. We have been busy of course just like everyone else. We had a great month enjoying our new friends and old friends. Had a wonderful time with Herb & Ginger our full time RV friends from VT, on a guided “Jeep” tour out into the desert. We visited the area called valley of names and saw some of the “slot canyons” that were nearby. Valley of the Names stretches across 1,200 acres of public land. A 4 wheel drive vehicle is needed to get there....

Dec 30, 2018 - Football playoffs and beautiful Sunday

Saturday morning and the college football bowl season in full swing - it was a great day to be stuck inside. The winds here in Yuma were in the 20+ mph range and the temperature around 60 degrees. Better than back home but I had to wear long pants again. The highlights were three trips to the Dog Park with Ziva. Once was just her and she still seems lost. The last visit of the day is THE trip because usually everyone is there just before dark. There are no lights in the parks so they close at dark which makes the latest visit as possible...

Dec 28, 2018 - Christmas in Yuma

We hope and pray that all of you had a blessed Christmas. I am finally sitting down to fill you in on our pre Christmas week around here. Friday the 21rst of December was the Foothills light parade. It was due to start at 6pm so all of us met early to have a cookie or two before we got our places all locked in on the corner of 54th drive and Dorothy street. It has been chilly out, so we were all wearing our coats and hats to keep warm. (I'm sure all our friends in Washington are quite amused by our need for coats and hats!) But our blood...

Dec 28, 2018 - Preparing for the cold snap...

The Thursday and Friday after Christmas should be slow. We did our best to make sure that is exactly the way we celebrated those days. Not much going on out here. Ziva had three trips to the Dog Park on Thursday. One trip was just us. She kept looking around for all the other dogs to come in to the park. She seemed sad when we left and there had been no other dogs there. The other two times there were anywhere from three to five other dogs. She is doing well in getting along with the other dogs. An occasional growl or bark but no attacks...

Dec 26, 2018 - Christmas +

Christmas morning and we slept in...something we have not been able to do on Christmas, or at least that I can remember. Since we had Christmas with the family on Christmas Eve we were good. After breakfast I spent time texting some longtime friends that I had kind of lost contact with over the years. Christmas is a time to remember friends and appreciate those friendships. We spent the day preparing for the Christmas dinner here at the Palms. The Palms was providing a ham for each table and all the other food was provided by those of us...

Dec 24, 2018 - Christmas Eve

At last...Christmas Eve...after two months of Christmas movies this means we must be getting close to regular television returning. WooHoo ! ! ! Now back to today. I was up early to make sure the garbage was set out for pickup. This is the first time since we arrived they have picked up garbage. We have had to take two bags down to the main area dump station, so it was nice for them to pick it up here. After breakfast I took Ziva to the Dog Park. Our neighbors were there with their three dogs and we were later joined by another dog and his...

Dec 23, 2018 - Slow Sunday

Not much to tell about today. Both of us slept in this morning. Both of us had breakfast in our normal course of the morning. Me, early and Sue later. I took Ziva for her early nature walk. We ended up getting hooked on watching John Wayne in "McClintock" as we were trying to get dressed for a trip out of the park, so our departure was delayed as we made sure we saw the end of the movie. We decided to have lunch out and ended up at Applebee's near the commercial district. Since there are three Applebee's in Yuma I am mentioning the...
