Feb 1, 2019 - This Mexico was not on the Beach
Thank goodness for friends. Trap and Jan have been extraordinarily wonderful distractions from my truck woes. The first full day here in Yuma, I did nothing. Even my mind was in park and the engine shut off. Well, Trap and I did go buy a tire and he insisted on doing the work himself. So getting a photo of Trap under my rig was a good distraction in itself. Basically, though, I just shut down and turned off the mind that first day. On Thursday, Trap and Jan took me to Algodones, Mexico. Boy! What an experience. "You want that carving? Only...Jump to full entry
Jan 31, 2019 - A down three days...
It is an understatement to say the last three days have been down days for us. Both of us are fighting a severe head cold. It is bad because we are on separate time frames on running its course. I am about two days ahead of Sue or she may have a worse case than me. Either way we are both suffering a heck of a lot more than we want to be. It is like a summer cold on steroids. There are several cases of flu and other various types of congestion type illnesses going around. Throw in the fact we attended two concerts with about 500 or so folks...Jump to full entry
Jan 30, 2019 - Yep, Bad News - Again
Got to the Y Tuesday morning and after completing 353 stress-free miles and 2 more that morning getting to the Y in Why, LOW COOLANT LEVEL came on once again. Turn left and you're off to Mexico...right to head home. The coolant was not low. As the engine was idling, we could see lots of air bubbles. We were probably there for 30 minutes. We all talked, I called my guy at the Chevy dealer in Tucson, we weighed the info and decided we'd ALL turn left at the Y. Two more miles and it came on again. I pulled over and let everyone keep going. I...Jump to full entry
Jan 29, 2019 - Telegraph Pass Trail
Our first attempt at hiking a section of this trail went fine. We had no intention of doing the entire trail as the grade near the top would be to steep for these 2 aging bodies, but we will be back for another walk through. Tomorrow will tell if we have calf issues and other aches and groans! Its quite a view from even half way up overlooking the flatness of Yuma to the south and the west. After the hike we drove east to Wellton on the twisty I-8 thru the mountains, Its an interesting section of highway where the eastbound and westbound...Jump to full entry
Jan 28, 2019 - The weekend and today...
Saturday started slowly until we remembered the US Parade here in the park. I was able to get a couple of shots of decorated golf carts and desert buggies that were at the tail end of the parade. Earlier carts had Sousa marches playing loudly and everyone was dressed in red, white and blue. The parade was at 11:00 and was followed by another "burger bash". We joined Rita, Alan, Mark and a few others at a table in the shade and enjoyed our cheeseburger meal. The band that was playing was trying to cover all types of music. They played some...Jump to full entry
Jan 28, 2019 - Upcoming Bus tours
Today we signed up for 2 bus tours in the next few weeks. So many choices to make,we were planning on heading south into Mexico ,Sea of Cortez (Puerto Penasco) and staying there for a few nights. Then everything changed after finding we could go to some other things we have never been to and always wanted to go to. Zion National Park and more ....Stay tuned, coming early February.Jump to full entry
Jan 25, 2019 - Prolotherapy / Al Godones Mexico
Another tune up for Ed today at his favorite Dr. We met another fellow in the office this am, from Medicine Hat who had major problems after breaking his ankle. After that operation and a period of sitting around in pain,it made a huge change in his lifestyle,he gained 30 pounds. He heard about Dr Maxwell from someone and since then, with the injections he is back in the saddle again and lost those 30 pounds because he is back out hiking again. he was very impressed. AND after convincing his wife who refused to have her very sore knee...Jump to full entry
Jan 25, 2019 - Mexico, the Osprey's are flying and Desparado is gone
A lot to talk about, as the title suggests. Yesterday was a trip to Mexico. Los Algodones, Baja California, Mexico to be exact. A small town of about 5,500. Amazing little town that appears to exist to cater to tourists from Yuma. It features eye glass dispensaries, dentist and pharmacies all about. Alan, one of our friends, estimates there may be 500 dentists in the small community. A large portion are U S trained and practice there with less insurance costs and the FDA not looking over their soldiers...and they do not have to deal with US...Jump to full entry
Jan 25, 2019 - A neighborhood upgrade
A couple of weeks ago, we received what I call "a neighborhood upgrade". Two new bright and shiny "high line" busses showed up at the lot at the end of the street. I mean like the kind the rock stars use. One was a Newel coach and one was a Prevost. These busses are in the million dollar+ range. (So I tried to take a picture without being too obvious, and look like a groupie.) These high line busses sometimes come with their own drivers, who deliver the coach to your destination and all you do is jump in and unpack. They also do all the...Jump to full entry
Jan 23, 2019 - The wind and Quartzsite
First thing I want to cover is the wind. I know I have referenced the song Mariah but the more time I spend in the west, the more I understand the song. Tuesday was a Mariah day. To say the wind blew would be at best, a mild understatement. Weather.com was reporting the wind having steady winds of 30+ mph. Gusts were supposed to be up to 50 mph. All day it blew and did not get below 20 mph until after dark yesterday. Most of the day was spent sitting inside just watching the palms wave and wondering why the fronds did not blow completely...Jump to full entry
Jan 21, 2019 - Championships, Cards and Golf...
Aahh, Sunday is NFL championship Sunday. Since we have refused to watch any regular season games over the past two years, this is a welcome change. We tried to get everything set up to allow us to watch the football games. Well we got a text from Mark and Sue inquiring about playing cards. So, at 3:30 the next segment of "oh Hell" broke out in our motorhome. Then about 5:30 we were through. Dominos were being considered when I left with Ziva for her last visit of the day to the Dog Park. By the time I returned from Ziva's playtime with six...Jump to full entry
Jan 19, 2019 - A few easy but busy days...or so it seems...
A catchup posting since I was too tired and sleepy to post last evening. So instead of a two day posting you are going to get to read three. Hopefully you will not go to sleep before you read all three. Thursday was one of those days where there was no real plan to accomplish anything...so we tried our best to succeed. Other than Ziva's early outing nothing really happened until I left to go pick up my cleaning and grab lunch out. I traveled around a little trying to figure out where things are and what streets lead in what directions....Jump to full entry
