Dec 24, 2019 - Getting ready for Christmas

The interesting thing about Snow Birding is that we miss some of the hustle and hassle of the Christmas season. We really have noticed a lot of extra traffic around town the last few days. We have particularly noticed the locals scurrying around with the an increased pace in the few stores we have visited. So this is our chance to tell everyone Merry Christmas. Yesterday started with me going with Tony and Polly to play golf at the Yuma Country Club. The course is in great shape and the wind was not a factor this trip. However, it was cool...

Dec 22, 2019 - Another weekend done...

It is the last weekend before Christmas. I know we have to be close to the border with Mexico. We went to eat Mexican food tonight and while there we heard White Christmas twice...in Spanish. We commented on the first one that it was the first time we had ever heard White Christmas in Spanish...and then three songs later we heard another rendition. And on top of that...the food was good. Mi Rancho has turned into our go to place for Mexican food and we have never been disappointed. That was the last thing on our weekend so let me tell you a...

Dec 18, 2019 - Well, yuk...

Well Yuk...that describes the weather...at least compared to what we want it to be. It has been clear, cool and windy. Clear as in no clouds, cool as in the low 60's for highs and windy as in 10 to 20 mph with some gusts close to 30mph. This makes cool a lot cooler. The good news is the big awnings and screen have survived with only a minimal adjustment needed. On Monday we noticed the two middle grommets that are used to stake down the screen had pulled the stakes out of the ground (rocks). A quick adjustment (2 stakes for each bunge cord)...

Dec 15, 2019 - Our weekend

Not a lot to talk about tonight. We have really only done the normal things, or so it seems. Here is a quick update by day: Friday, I was up a little ahead of Sue to prepare to go with my regular golf group to Desert Hills Golf Course. Everything was done and I was ready to go when they came by to pick me up at 9:45. The Palms has a group of tee times on Friday starting at 10:30. We must have had between 6 and 8 groups. We went off second. We were through before 3:00 and on our way home. I really hate this course but it is the best value....

Dec 12, 2019 - Two really pretty days

Two pretty days here in Yuma. The mornings have been cool and we've had great afternoons. Few, if any, clouds in the vast blue skys. We are meeting more people every day. So far, we have managed to keep Sue from attracting the valley crud. We are out and about every day. Yesterday I had to hurry to get ready to head to Wellton to play golf. Ziva decided instead of a nature walk she wanted to go on a field trip. The fifteen minutes I had allocated for her time out turned into thirty. So, my 22 mile trip to Wellton was a rushed one...and the...

Dec 10, 2019 - Random thoughts...

Happy Birthday to our beautiful new teenager, Hannah! Hard to believe she is now 13 years old. You probably thought last night was nothing but random thoughts. It was an attempt to catch up while I was extremely sleepy..in fact I think I dozed off a couple of times while I was composing. Anyway, I apologize for the offering. Today it was a lazy morning. After being up early yesterday for our trip over to Mexico, today was a slow time for us. We did get up and around and headed out to take something back to Sam's that we purchased...

Dec 9, 2019 - Last Four Days in Yuma

Just a quick update on what has been going on...here in Arizona. Friday was the day we got the Bus and truck washed by the local folks with spot free water. This was over around 4:00 p.m. and we cleaned out the truck, and Sue cleaned and vacuumed the inside. Looks so good, I am now banned from just riding around...I need a reason to be in the truck so I cannot mess it up. By dinner time we were worn out. It was salad and baked sweet potato time. Bed really felt good on Friday night. Saturday we were up at a moderate time and Ziva and I...

Dec 5, 2019 - And finally...we are here...

Up early in Casa Grande and prepared for the last leg of our six day trip. We discovered that there had been rain overnight and we were totally unaware. There was a lot of standing water but we have no idea how much rain fell since Arizona has dumb rain. It falls and does not know where to go when it hits the ground so it just stands where it hits. Ziva and I took our early morning walk and went by a mature Saguaro cactus. It has to be 80 - 100 years old before it will start to grow the arms that make them so identifiable. If you look at...

Nov 30, 2019 - 3:10 to Yuma (via Nogales)!

Howdy, Fri 11/29/19 Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. As I write this, we are sitting at the Petro Truck Stop in Casa Grande. We had extremely heavy winds and hard driving rain overnight and this morning. We awoke to being in a lake. We were very busy the past few weeks in Benson. We replaced some rotted trim, painted all the trim and some of the casita. We also had a contractor install a ceiling on the porch roof – an upgrade that will be added to the value. Some of this was needed and some in preparation for possibly changing lots....

Nov 2, 2019 - We have arrived in Yuma

We got underway at 0730 this morning. The weather is a bit hazy and smokie due to the fires here in Bakersfield but it is sunny and warm under the haze. It is supposed to be 80+ in Yuma today. We headed up Tehachapi and it was very dry and brown looking. We usually go home this way in the spring, so I guess I am just used to it being green. Not today! The traffic has been pretty light, except for the San Bernardino area. Where there is always lots of traffic. There is nice new pavement near the Boron plant into Kramer's corner and for a...

Sep 15, 2019 - Winter Quarters - Cocopah

/// September 15, 2019 Winter Quarters – Cocopah Yuma, AZ // End of Season Report: As usual, we have been busy since our return to Yuma and I just keep putting off getting to this post entry. // We departed Williams, AZ early on September 15th. Our route today would take us west on I-40 and south on US 95 to Lake Havasu City for an overnight stop. It was an easy drive off the ridge and the road conditions varied. We made a quick rest stop outside of Kingman. Shortly thereafter the AC on the FORD F-350 Super Duty began to give out. Damn,...

Jul 18, 2019 - Blue Sky Ranch RV Resort, Yuma, AZ

Continuing west, we picked up I-8 south of Phoenix and arrived in Yuma, AZ and Blue Sky Ranch Resort. This private campground had full hooks and was a Passport America member, thus giving us a 50% discount. It was hot when we arrive...about 112 degrees. It took the trailer a long time to cool down.
