Dec 13, 2018 - 2-year travel anniversary!

2-year anniversary December 13th marks the two-year anniversary of our RV adventure on the road! We left Birmingham Alabama on December 13, 2016 after we both retired on August 31st and spent the next 3 months doing a whole house renovation on a house my brother and I inherited from our parents. Once the renovation was done, we packed up the last of our stuff and headed east. We spent the holidays with Adam, Laura and the 5 grandkids in Savannah before heading to Florida to warm up a bit. While we were in Florida, we changed our domicile...

Dec 12, 2018 - 2019 travel itinerary

We tend to plan our travels based upon the part of the country where we want to spend the summer and winter. Steve doesn't like to be too cold and I don't like to be too hot so we generally try to spend summers in the NW, North or NE, and winters in the South or SW part of the country. This will be no different in 2019 as we plan to summer in New England and winter in/around Georgia. Because we (more Steve actually) are planners, we have already planned out the majority of our travels for 2019. Since we have lots of friends that also travel...

Dec 11, 2018 - Life in Yuma

After our travel adventures on the way to Yuma, we were happy to settle in to our little slice of heaven (that is how they advertise this place) at The Palms RV Resort in Yuma. We will be here until January 2nd so we will have plenty of time to explore the area. We have already done a few things since we arrived. Now that we have Bill (our Honda Goldwing motorcycle) we are able to do more exploring and sight-seeing than we did when we just had BAT. Sight-seeing on a motorcycle is much more fun than in a one-ton dually truck for sure! One...

Dec 11, 2018 - Clean up day

Brought some fellas in to wash the trailer and truck. Washing this thing is a task that takes me several hours to do but today I was sitting reading under sunny skies AND now We are not the dirtiest rig in this row anymore. Marion went to chair yoga this morning but missed it,she was an hour to late. Then she was off to her am swimming class followed by line dancing this afternoon. I of course stood guard over our (huge) 40 x 60 ft lot and defended it. This very quiet Resort is exactly 1 mile from the freeway as we watch the traffic coming...

Dec 9, 2018 - Christmas Light Show

Yesterday we wrapped up our last visit with the Hamblins. Margaret our activity director had lots planned again because she had to get it all in before they left this morning. Attended 2 different markets, an outdoor market downtown at the Yuma palms shopping center and then another Christmas craft fair across from the airport. Then off in search of ice cream before returning home for an hour. At 4 pm we headed downtown to find the right location to set up our lawn chairs for the light parade that started at 6 pm. We set up across the...

Dec 6, 2018 - Bowling

None of us have bowled for decades but today we gave it a go.Pretty sure we achieved a new record high for gutter balls!!!! Lots of fun and expect we will be back in a few days. Curious to know how we will be affected from lifting and throwing these 12-14 lb balls? The next few mornings will show where our new aches and pains are going to be. Yes this was 10 pin! Kerry entered a Texas Hold um Poker game today and came in 2nd scoring around $30. Last night we played Bingo and Marion won a Bingo worth $62!! Good pots and close to 200 people...

Dec 5, 2018 - Settling in

Before leaving Benson, Ginger washed and waxed the Jeep (yes – sacrilege). It does look great! Bad news – many of our AZ pinstripes are gone. We still have a few though. We had a good trip west, arriving mid-afternoon. As we did last year, we set up “backwards” on our lot – meaning we drove in and the utilities are on the passenger side. We do this to place the nose to the north giving us a view of the mountains and keeping it out of the sun. This big windshield – even with the cover on and both shades down sucks in a lot of heat. Our...

Dec 4, 2018 - Its been a busy month!

Once we get here then the work begins. OT had already tackled the weeds for us, but the casita needed to be cleaned up, and the area rug laid down.(Thankfully it fit and it looks nice. Zoey is especially happy, as the hardwood floor is pretty slick for her to navigate.) The guys installed the party lights in the roof of the patio, after many drawings and ideas on how to install them. There was lots of verbal abuse between the 2 retired submarine sailors during the install process! The infamous lemon tree, that traveled in the RV shower...

Dec 1, 2018 - Yuma AZ update

Well, now here it is at the beginning of December already!!. Happy belated Thanksgiving to everyone!! Time sure does fly by. We have been here for about 5 weeks already. The weather has been a real treat. For the last couple weeks we have had mid to upper 70's during the day, and mid to low 50's at night. We are settling in well and finding all the places we need to in town. Every one here at the park is very very friendly. Part of our journey out here was also so Deb could take advantage of getting some dental work done in Los Algedonas...

Nov 24, 2018 - heading south to Yuma

We spent our last couple of weeks at Camp Verde doing some fun things! We took a ride on the Verde Canyon Railroad one day – this was a fun adventure that took us back in the Verde Canyon for quite a ways. We saw lots of beautiful red rock mountains. Another day, we went to lunch in old town Cottonwood with our RV neighbors, Steve and Janet. They had been full-timing for a few months and we enjoyed getting to know them better. We had lunch at Adrianna’s which is a Mexican restaurant recommended to us by our Pink Jeep tour driver when we...

Nov 2, 2018 - We have arrived in Yuma!

Yeah, its the last day of travel for us! We stopped off to get propane at the campground before we left. Then we were underway at 0845. Its going to be warm today, the propane guy said "Its going to be 98 degrees in Needles, California today". And here I am in jeans, blond high five, on my part! Guess whos going to need to change clothes in a couple of hours. Anyway, here we are again on a two lane road. Lots of ups and downs on this rippling road. We drove through Quartsite...it was just starting to get people showing up. But there were...

Oct 24, 2018 - The Palms RV Resort, Yuma AZ

On the morning of October 24, we departed The Lost Dutchman State Park in Apache Junction and headed to The Palms RV Resort (www.yumapalmsrvresort.com) where we will stay for about 6 months. .. The drive along Interstate 8 through the south west desert was a long one. Scenery for us New Englander's was quite different from what we were used to seeing in the north east, especially for the end of October. .. We arrived in the late afternoon and security here at this gated resort escorted us to our site which we found to be quite spacious for...
