May 14, 2019 - Meteor Crater RV Park

One week ago we were traveling north on I-17 when an engine warning stating there was excess pressure in the Diesel Particulant Filter and after about 25 miles the engine went into a limp mode and we had to find a service center. We wound up at the Rush Peterbilt in Flagstaff. Marge and Ross checked into a motel/hotel for two nights when we were informed by the shop that this job was going to take some time. At the rate of $159 dollars per night we decided to climb into the pickup truck and head back to Phoenix where there was an empty...

Apr 28, 2019 - We're now officially nomads.

We're on our way, finally. The house closed on April 10th without any problems. The hardest part was getting rid of, storing or sqeezing in all the final stuff from the house. We ended up with a 5ft X 5ft storage unit with everything else we still own crammed into the RV. All tat was left to do was see two more healthcare providers. All went smoothly with follow-up appts made for late October 2019 during our next pass through Albuquerque. We were set to leave town on April 22, the day after Easter having a lovely dinner with friends. BUT,...

Apr 25, 2019 - Arizona adventures

The morning of the 24th, we went to the Meteor Crater, about 20 miles outside of Winslow,AZ. It is hard to describe in just a few words, but I'll try. When we got there it was impressive, massive, humbling, awesome, puzzling, huge, I can go on and on. Winslow Arizona actually has a park called Standing on the Corner Park. You guessed it, it is dedicated to the Eagles song "Take It Easy." The park, of course, has souvenir shops nearby and yes they all play The Eagles songs. We left Winslow and headed for Albequerque, New Mexico . To me it...

Apr 23, 2019 - Some changes some extras

Today we started at an official Post Office of Route 66. Next, we went to the Powerhouse which is now a museum, gift shop and tribute to Andy Devine. How many of you remember him? He was an actor from Kingman. Mainly did westerners in the 50s and 60s. Then we decided to go on the longest remaining original stretch of Route 66. Along the way we had lunch at the capital of the Hualapai Tribe in Peach Springs,AS. Big portions, good food. Right now we are at Meteor Crater RV park next to a meteor crater which we will visit tomorrow.

Nov 4, 2018 - Standing on a Corner in Winslow, Arizona

The park we stayed in last night, Enchanted Trails, has had a long and interesting past. Back in the 50's it was a simple trading post but after a major fire it became one of the many camping stops west of Albuquerque along the fabled Route 66. Today the charm of the old is everywhere in the buildings as well as the old restored travel trailers that fill the park. Due to the Daylight Saving time change over, we awoke ready to go... a tad early, before the sun even came up... but once we read our e-mails, e-news, and attended to our other...

Winter In Phoenix

Oct 15, 2018 - Four Corners

Lots of driving today for one sight. After a stop for breakfast at McDonalds, hit the road around 9 heading for the Four Corners Monument. This is the only place where 4 states (Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico) come together at one point. It is a remote area north of Teec Nos Pos (population 730). It took us about 3 hours to get there. Not a particular elaborate monument, there is a pie shape circle w/ a medallion for each state, then a smaller disk where they all meet. The land on which the monument is located is part of the Navajo...

Oct 7, 2018 - Winslow AZ, Homolovi State Park

On the morning of Sunday October 7th, we departed Mesa Verde National Park, taking our time down the steep twisty grade within the park, heading for Gallup New Mexico for an overnight stop. Due to some of the weather forecasts, we decided to cancel our stop in Gallup NM and continue on to Winslow AZ to the Homolovi Ruins State Park. We ran into some windy conditions along the way as we headed south from the Cortez CO area toward Gallup NM. .. We fueled up in Gallup then continued west to Winslow AZ, arriving at Homolovi Ruins State Park at...

Oct 6, 2018 - Meteor Crater

10/6/2018 Today we drove from J&H RV Resort in Flagstaff to OK RV Campground Holbrook Az. A big thanks to JoAnn and Harvey for fitting us into the park on only a few days’ notice. J&H RV Park has been awarded several awards for the design of the park and the overall facilities. The park is spotless and really a great place to stay. If you’re in the Flagstaff area, pick the J&H RV Park to stay. As we traveled today our first stop was at the Meteor Crater. It is estimated that 50,000 years ago a Meteor of about 150 feet across and weighing...

Jul 30, 2018 - Standin on the corner in Winslow Airzona

Title says it all! Got to check something off my bucket list today. Today we toured the town of Winslow AZ. Made famous by the Eagles song 'Take it Easy'. It's amazing how much a song from the 70's can do for a town in the middle of nowhere Arizona. It was fun checking this town out. Both June and I got a tee shirt from "Standin' On The Corner" store. After checking out the corner we walked over to the La Posada Hotel for some lunch. We had lunch in The Turquoise Room. I liked lunch there, June didn't. Oh well. After lunch we toured...

Apr 27, 2018 - Route 66

Jim FINALLY pulled off of 40 onto Historic Route 66 just in time to stop at Winslow, Arizona and take a few photos of the corner the Eagles made famous. No surprise there but did you know that Winslow also has a 9-11 Memorial? The memorial features 2 large metal beams from the wreckage of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center entrusted to the City of Winslow by the city of New York. Never expected to find a piece of NY in Winslow. The stop was brief but Rocco and his humans enjoyed our little walkabout Winslow.

Mar 16, 2018 - Winslow, Arizona

Again traveling I-40 we stopped just outside Winslow, AZ for a couple of days staying at Meteor Crater RV Park. Here again, we had traveled through the area and had wanted to stop to see this meteor crater that I had been to as a kid, but not much memory of. We had the time and so decided to stay a couple of days. The weather again was cold and windy but we took off to visit the crater the next morning. This meteor was actually determined a meteor only since the early 1960's. Up to then, while some thought it was from outer space, but the...
