We always just enjoyed hanging around this city. We had stayed there several times even before we started motorhoming, but once we got the motorhome we have enjoyed it even more. We like staying at the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park because it is so well maintained and has a shuttle from one of end the resort to the other. And it is also within easy walking distance to Route 66 --- so it is nice to visit the area and not even have to unhook the car. Williams, Arizona was the last town to be officially bypassed due to IH 40. We got up and had...

Jun 6, 2011 - Travel Day - Williams, Arizona
Travel day from Phoenix, Arizona (Pioneer RV Park) to Williams, Arizona (Grand Canyon Railway RV Park). The trip was easy until we got to IH 40 and then the tail winds we had coming up IH 17 turned into crosswinds with gusts up to 50 mph, thank God we only had 30 miles to go to Williams.

May 24, 2011 - Move Along Little Doggies...
Another fabulous day on our trip. Poor Coco had to be put in the doggie hospital because of her major bout of Diarrhea We were all tired from two days of dealing with her and we headed to the vet in Flagstaff. After dropping her off it was a real cowboy breakfast at the Howard Johnson's on Route 66. I don't know if it is the mountain air but every place we eat is just awesome. The diner in the hotel was just as you would imagine with the booths lined along the window over looking old 66. Missy got a great hair color job from a very cool...

May 23, 2011 - Chillin In Williams, AZ
OK what a day. The wind was vicious and Coco was sick again in the bus last niter. After a disgusting clean up and a 35 mile trip to Flagstaff for a new washable crate we got back to the trip. We had lunch in the cool town of Williams and they are very proud of being on historic Route 66. Everywhere you turn are signs and memorabilia for the scenic highway. We had lunch at a lousy pizza joint and then headed to BEARIZONA. It was a drive thru wild life park and we witnessed some incredible bear play. One of them climbed a 40 ft tree in less...

May 22, 2011 - Onward to Willams, AZ
We slept in a little in Gallup, NM. The stars last nite were so awesome. The sky was full of them all the way to the edge of the ground. Never seen it like that were we live. I checked the oil in the cummins 500 diesel pusher and the generator. Both needed topping off. Then we stopped at LOVES Truck stop for a $350 feeding for RockinZ. I'm averaging about 6 miles to the gallon but she is driving great. The 231 mile ride to Williams , AZ was even more interesting then the others. 20 miles west of Gallup the landscape changed to giant smooth...

May 21, 2011 - Grand Canyon Railway
Finally, Bob and I have made it to the Grand Canyon. This adventure was an Old West theme via the historic Grand Canyon Railway. They claim it wasn't the cowboys or the cavalry that conquered the west. The iron horse opened up the hidden treasures of the West. The Grand Canyon Railway brought the first passengers to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon in 1901. It actually died away in 1968. In 2007, Xanterra Parks and Resorts bought the railway and Hotel. This company is very dedicated to being environmentally responsible. The railway still...

May 19, 2011 - Especially Effective Ways to Perish in any National Park
1. Do NOT seek shelter during lighting storms…BE SHOCKED. Especially effective is to continue holding onto your hiking poles during the storm. 2. STOP in the MIDDLE of any Park road…without warning. Get OUT of your car to take a picture of the surrounding nature. 3. Feed, attempt to pet or chase wildlife. Remember, WILD animals are just that…WILD. Especially effective is to put honey on your cheek to get that special Bear Picture. 4. IGNORE Ranger Warning signs. Step over the signs that say DO NOT GO PAST THIS POINT. Swim in areas that...

Apr 19, 2011 - Day 15 Needles, CA-Williams, AZ
Today was another fairly easy day. I say fairly easy because it seems we climbed almost 6000 ft. Of course it was gradual, but we knew we were climbing, visually, we passed three elevation signs, 4000, 5000, and 7335 and physically we experienced mild signs of altitude sickness, but the ladies at the campground told us what to do to prevent further problems. So now we are feeling a little better and looking forward to tomorrow. When we left the Needles area this morning about 9:30, it was already close to 80, but when we arrived here, it...

Apr 6, 2011 - Williams Arizona and The Grand Canyon
Today we left Vegas for a 4+ hour drive to The Grand Canyon. We left at around 9.30am , the drive to GC is very easy , we were on the freeway in a matter of minutes and headed for Kingsman as our first stop. A friend of mine in Australia told me that we MUST stop at The Pine Country Cafe in Wiliams for lunch, we arrived in a cold wet Williams at around 12.30pm, I LOVE these classic old US country towns, there is just 'something' about them that I find pleasant. We found The Pines easily, it is a quaint old style cafe with decent food and...

Mar 29, 2011 - Williams, AZ
Today we moved from Flagstaff to Williams, AZ, only about an hour drive. When we got set up in the campground, we cleaned the camper really good, it was so dusty from the last few areas we've been in and also from the wind blowing the dust. Then I did the laundry. Feels good to have it all done. Tomorrow we're taking the train in to the Grand Canyon. We're looking forward to it and hoping we can get a couple of pictures worth posting. Williams AZ is very small, just the Old Route 66 running through the middle of town. Evidently they have a...
