Oct 2, 2012 - Williams, AZ

Oct 1, 2012 We left Kingman, AZ about 9:30 and headed for Williams, AZ about 112 miles. We arrived at the Canyon Gateway Camp Grounds around noon. Margret had called ahead and made reservations for three rigs, or so she thought. When we arrived, Margret only had a reservation. We had to track down the camp “host” and were told that since we didn’t give them the names, addresses and phone numbers of the other two rigs they were not reserved. The host didn’t say anything about needing the information when Margret made the reservations. After...

Oct 1, 2012 - Day 15

Monday 10/1: Today we woke up after our last night in Las Vegas. We headed south down 93 to the Hoover Dam. Sorry, I don't have pictures right now, but they are all on my mom's camera so will have to get them downloaded soon. As expected it was very awe inspiring and massive. The crowds weren't too bad though the heat was horrid. Hotter at the Dam than Las Vegas by 7 degrees each day add the fact that none of the buildings have adequate AC. We did the Dam tour (hehehe), then visited the Dam gift shop. I got the funniest picture of them...

Jun 20, 2012 - Day 45 Williams AZ camp

day 42 (or whatever day it is, we lost track) we decided to go back to sedona to find the "old" part of sedona that we knew in the 70s, while most was removed, we did find some and took photos of it... still, you can see the many roundabouts and how the businesses have almost covered up the red-rock beauty scenery (buildings/wires/stop lights etc.)... took the oak canyon north out of sedona, which was very windy/steep/with many switches to the top thru forested land... drove back to flagstaff for gas/food/ice then on I-40 west to williams...

May 31, 2012 - On the Road Agan

THURSDAY: Williams, AZ - 1st day out We (I should say I as Ron worked most of the afternoon) did pretty well for having goofed off most of Wednesday. I had decided it was too hot to carry stuff to the RV. So here I was at 6 am – pulling my hair out because I wasn't packed. So I finished packing, did the last 2 loads of clothes (remade the bed so it will be fresh for us when we come back in the fall and then did up all the towels - didn't dry them – just hung them up) and then started taking stuff to the MH. Our goal was to get on the road...

Summer 2012 Travels

May 27, 2012 - Exploring the Canyon

On Friday Sue had a sinus headache so Jeff and I set out on a hike of South Kaibab Trail. We walked to the Visitor’s Center where we boarded the Orange Bus Line to the trailhead east of Grand Canyon Village. Because of loose gravel the trail was somewhat slippery as we descended about 600 feet in 1.8 miles of trail. As we navigated the last bit of the trail before reaching Oohaah Point the wind gusted to a point where I was not comfortable. So, after spending a few minutes admiring the view at Oohaah, we turned around and returned to the...

May 21, 2012 - Flagstaff Fiasco

May 21, 2012 Daytrip to Flagstaff -Destination Bank of America Walked aound town- Cool college town with great history. Anxious to come back to local museum and visitor's center. Stopped @ Mall and Wayne picked out some new shades at Sunglass Hut for his birthday next week. On the way back to Williams, we had a blow out on the front passenger tire with significant damage to the headlight kit, front fender, door and running board. Probably would have been serious if we'd been towing the fifth wheel. We were dropped off at our campground by...

May 1, 2012 - Sedona, AZ

After seeing the Grand Canyon and all it's beauty we were very impressed with the beauty of Sedona. We took a trolley ride through the town and then into the country and the scenery just got better and better. After Dale found out there was a Walmart only 10 miles away, he was ready to move there. That's just a joke, folks!!! Don't miss this place if you are in the area.

May 1, 2012 - Williams, AZ

Left Las Vegas a day early and headed for Williams, AZ. Going to visit the Grand Canyon. High winds near Hoover Dam made for a thrilling drive across the bridge. Like driving on ice. Windy all day - having to really drive the RV instead of relaxed driving. Williams is suppose to be the gateway to the Grand Canyon and is a real rip-off town. Gas near our campground was $4.49. We paid $3.62 down the road. Spent Wednesday at the Canyon and was surprised that the entry fee was so high. $25.00 if you don't have a Golden Age pass (we do have...

Apr 22, 2012 - Williams AZ

Since Arizona doesn’t participate in Daylight Savings Time, it starts getting light here at 5:15 am. That just ain’t right. The sun started peeking through the blinds and woke me up, and since we had the alarm set for 7:30, 5:15 is just not right. We slowly got our act together and actually got to the train station a little early for our 9:15 boarding call. It left right at 9:30 and we were on our way for the 65 mile trip to Canyon Village on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. It was just over 2 hours to CV and the trip took us through...

Westbound Again

Apr 21, 2012 - Williams AZ

When I woke up at about 6:30 it was 38° at the campground without a cloud in the sky and – are you ready for this? – no wind. So I rattled my navigator out of bed and we got on the road right at 9:00 after fueling up. It was a great day for a drive – great weather, not much traffic and snow-capped mountains in the distance. We drove to about 25 miles east of Flagstaff AZ and did a lunch pit stop after about 3 hours on the road, then back onto the interstate for what we thought was going to be about another 3 hours. Well, that didn’t happen....
