May 17, 2013 - Boulder City, NV to Kaibab Lake, AZ
After getting on the road this morning, we looked up a couple of computer places in the Garmin so we could buy a new laptop. We found one in Kingman, and after getting gas there, we followed the Garmin's directions which took us to a really nasty residential area. I told Dave if the computer place was truly in this neighborhood, we were NOT going in. Well, Garmin took us to a single wide, run-down trailer. So much for Garmin! We could buy one in Albuquerque. Kaibab Lake is just a couple of miles from Williams, AZ, where you can catch the...

May 8, 2013 - Grand Canyon and end of trip
Yesterday we drove up to the Grand Canyon. It was going to be our 3rd and final try to see it. It was cold, mostly cloudy with off and on rain/hail. We were able to see it!!! Yea! They have 3 free bus tours around the canyon. We did all 3 getting off and on at stops we wanted to see. It was not crowded but comfortable. I think we could have seen it better with the sunshine. Then colors really show up. As the canyon can change every few minutes. It is a beautiful site and amazing. Our camp was a great location as we had a direct road right...

May 6, 2013 - Williams, AZ
We left Page about 8:30 and arrived here at 1:00. Was nice drive down. We had to do a 50 mile detour back on the Hwy 98 which we came on from Monument Valley. We were going to take Hwy 89 to Williams but there was major slip out on both sides of road. It was cloudy all the way and the weather report is calling for some rain. Since we got here we have a few showers and tomorrow is suppose to be the same. So here is our dilemma. We planned on driving up to the Grand Canyon for the day. Since the last two times we have not been able to see the...

Mar 26, 2013 - A Short Travel Day
Not much to report today. One of us saw a beautiful sunrise and showed pictures to the rest of the crew. We took a leisurely drive from Camp Verde to Williams and another very nice campground. On the way we saw what we keep hearing about from the "old" folks at home. I think you call it snow. It didn't make us cold or wet, but it was a wee distance from us. This is the beautiful kind. Tomorrow we take the train to the Grand Canyon and we're all looking forward to it.

Nov 19, 2012 - Lucy and Mickey
This two week trip would not be complete without an entry for Lucy and Mickey. Lucy was apprehensive to say the least starting out. She was growling and hiding as much as possible in our small space to escape the terror of Mickey! He ran and jumped two feet in the air and would land on her back. But the days went on and her tolerance improved even waiting for him to finish at the chow bowl. And Mickey dominated it..he's an eating machine. At night Mickey slept at our heads in our faces but end at times. Oh, I forgot to mention he farts!,...

Nov 19, 2012 - Grand Canyon
What a great stop in so many ways! TheTrain, Grand Canyon Railway, RV park, is just blocks from Main Street Route 66 and a walk down memory lane. We were there for the running of the Polar Express. The train depot was lit with holiday lights and decorations and kids were running every where in Christmas PJ's in anticipation of their trip. We settled for the Grand Canyon Railway to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon a day trip. 21/12 hrs each way and 4 hours there to explore. The train was a hoot with entertainers. Train robbers and singers...

Oct 29, 2012 - Grand Canyon IMAX & Planes Of Fame Museum
We visited the Grand Canyon back in May of this year, so that’s why we decided to visit Fred and Barney’s place. We did, however, drive to the IMAX Theater to see their spectacular adventure film “Grand Canyon, The Hidden Secrets.” For us, there is really no other way to see the bottom of the Canyon then to see this beautifully made film. When we visit the Grand Canyon (which we’ve visited three times), we take the trail around the rim, which is awesome, but since we will never take a donkey ride, or a plane ride, or a helicopter ride, or...

Oct 28, 2012 - Williams, Az & Bedrock City, Valle, Az
Williams, Arizona – Sunday, 10/28 The weather here in Williams is gorgeous, from 68-75 degrees. We took a walk downtown and perused the shops and train station. Monday – 10/29 First of all, Happy 42nd Birthday to our wonderful, beautiful, awesome daughter Angela. Now. Why do most people come to Williams, Arizona? Right! To see the Grand Canyon! Wrong. Not us. We came to visit Flintstones Bedrock City! That’s right. We had a “yabba dabba doo” fun time at Fred Flintsone’s and Barney Rubble’s hometown of Bedrock. First, we had lunch at Fred’s...

Oct 24, 2012 - Grand Canyon, Arizona, October 21-23
Grand Canyon, Arizona, October 21-23 It was not a long ride from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon. Due to the huge size of the Canyon, there are not that many roads that lead to it and one has to loop around it. We went somewhat South, then slowly turned to the east and arrived at State Road 64, right at a town called Williams. From there, it was about another 50 miles to the National Park, straight North. Although it may sound like a broken record, the ride was pretty much in arid terrain as it has been our last few weeks. However, the...

Oct 15, 2012 - Williams AZ
10/16 We’re staying in Williams, a kitschy little town that’s claim to fame is its proximity to The Grand Canyon and its history as a Route 66 town. They were very big on old gas pumps from the 30’s 40’s and 50’s. John was in heaven. Probably the most disappointing day we’ve had so far. We went to the Sunset Volcano and Wupatki Pueblo. Lots of driving. The volcano was interesting to see, it got its name from the colors at the caldera. The lava looked like beautiful dark rich soil, but when you touch it – it’s hard as a (well) rock. The...

Oct 6, 2012 - More of Arizona Route 66
Our route today was on and off I40 to try to catch stretches of Route 66. Our first stop was Seligman, AZ which is touted as the “birth place of Route 66”. It all began with Angel Delgadillo who helped form the Route 66 Association of Arizona after the interstate bypassed Seligman and most of Route 66 in the 1970’s. Angel was the town barber and along with his wife, Vilma, and now his daughter, Mirna, operates the Route 66 Gift Shop. It’s one of the many gift shops and motels along the main street in Seligman, but is a Mecca for tourist...

Oct 3, 2012 - Day 17
Weds, 10/3: So today we woke up still in Williams, AZ, at the G.C. Railway RV Park. I got the girls up early (to them lol) and we took the little shuttle over to the train station. Our first activity of the day was a little wild west show where we meet 3 bank robbing brothers and the Sheriff who stopped them from shooting a tourist lol. By 9:00 we were on the train and headed to the grand canyon. It was very clean and not crowded in the least so we each got our own window seat for the 2-1/2hr journey. Each car had a "information" person...
