Oct 6, 2018 - Tolleson, AZ

Sat, 06 Oct: Crosstown commute!?! Today was an early-ish day as we were both awake before 0600. We didn't especially rush, but did manage to get our act together and roll wheels out of the Soaring Eagle RV park at 0850. Bob took us to AZ 87 south to the AZ 202 loop, which we took westbound toward Sky Harbor Airport. Near the airport we transitioned to I 10 west, on which we continued to Tolleson. We exited on 99th Street and took it south a short distance to Freightliner of Tolleson. We arrived at 0945 and the RV courtesy parking area was...

Oct 1, 2017 - Tolleson AZ

Sun, 01 Oct: Can it be October already??? It is hard to tell in the Valley of the Sun as the daytime temps have been in the mid- to hi-nineties. No triple digits tho, and for that we're grateful. We had a very busy week at the Mayo Clinic and, as seems to be the case, we have more appointments ahead of us than we fulfilled the past week. We must be very popular, they want us to keep coming back. Mayhaps they're lonesome??? Regardless, it is time for us to move so move we did. Up at our will, breakfast, get things ready for the road, and...

Aug 24, 2016 - Tolleson, AZ

Wed, 24 Aug: Back on the road—a short bit anyway... Today was another road day, albeit a short (65 mile) one. We have the coach scheduled in for her annual chassis service and we needed to move her from Casa Grande to the Freightliner service facility in Tolleson. Tolleson is a "burb" of Phoenix located on the west side where Loop 101 west intersects with Interstate 10. The chassis annual service is an important part of our maintenance schedule and we do our best to keep to it. Freightliner publishes a service schedule that includes...

Oct 28, 2015 - Tolleson, AZ

Wed, 28 Oct: From one service facility to another... After two days in Lake Havasu City today we were back on the road, this time eastbound to our next service appointment. This time it is our coach's annual major chassis/engine/generator service at the Tolleson (Arizona) Freightliner Service Center. We have this inspection and service performed in Tolleson if on the west coast or at the Freightliner Factory Service Center in Gaffney (South Carolina) if on the east coast. Since we spent the nite in 3Ts parking area we wanted to get an early...

Oct 15, 2014 - Tolleson, AZ

Wed, 15 Oct: Heading east... If we continued any further west we'd be in the "People's Republic of California", not a place we're in the mood to visit right now. So, once our fridge got a clean bill of health we reversed our path and headed right back from where we came, or at least most of it. Back east on Interstate 8 to Gila Bend, where we again topped our diesel tank at the Shell station. They have very convenient RV islands with good prices, so we usually stop and top whenever we go by. This time, however, instead of continuing east on...

Oct 21, 2012 - Tolleson, AZ

Sun, 21 Oct: A very short Sunday drive today. We moved a breathtaking 41 miles east on I 10 from Tonopah to Tolleson, Arizona. We're now at the Freightliner dealer's RV parking area ready for Carpe's five year service at the uncivilized time of 0700 tomorrow. This is our first visit to Freightliner of Arizona's new Tolleson facility (it was being built last year) and we're quite impressed with the RV area. Full (50-amp) hookups including water & sewer. Very impressive. Of course, once we factor in the amount we'll spend here during the...

Oct 2, 2011 - Tolleson (Phoenix), AZ

Sun, 02 Oct: We awoke at our "normal" (i.e., no alarm) time and got Carpe ready for the road. We weren't in any particular hurry other than check out was 1100. After breakfast we got ready for the road, bade farewell to Ben & Bonnie (and many of the other campers who came out to watch us leave) and drove 0.2 miles to the campground dump site where we emptied our tanks. From there we headed east on I 40 for ten miles to I 17 and then south to Phoenix. The road is vastly improved since we last drove this stretch in '08. Most of the...

2011 Travels

May 6, 2010 - Tolleson, AZ

We drove the short distance (about 75 miles) from Casa Grande to Tolleson (a 'burb on the west end of Phoenix) late morning to minimize traffic on Phoenix's busy highways. We had to stop at the Freightliner dealer to have a leaking front wheel bearing repaired. This is a very RV-friendly dealer and we have had positive experiences in the past. We arrived shortly after 11 A.M. and "checked in". We found a space with 30 amp power so we could run our air conditioners as it is in the low 90°s. They'll start work at 7 A.M. tomorrow (Friday)...
