Jan 21, 2019 - Tempe, City of Arts

We had wonderful weather in Death Valley however, things were changing fast so decided to wait out the storms in Kingman, Arizona. Our route took us through Boulder City, Nevada and we HAD to stop there for lunch at our favorite restaurant, The World Famous Coffee Cup. The Cup is owned by friends of ours, Carri and Al Stevens and is run by their two kids. We had another fabulous meal there and we got to catch up with Carri and Al. We had over 28 hours of rain while in Kingman but fortunately, the RV Park (Blake Ranch RV, we highly...

Apr 23, 2017 - Hot Time – Summer in the City…

It could reach 100 degrees in Tempe today. Whoa!!! Sometime around the early part of May the temperature usually reaches 100 degrees. For years, the Arizona Republic newspaper even ran a contest where you guess when the first day and time the temps will reach 100 degrees. This year, however, the contest is for the first 110 degree day. The winner gets four tickets to a Diamondbacks game. The Diamondbacks are Arizona’s semi-professional baseball team. I’ve read that locals say that the first 100 degree day doesn’t mean anything. Rather, it...

Apr 15, 2017 - Rolling, Rolling, time to keep them wheels rolling!

We’ve joined the RVer migration although we’ve purposely haven’t gotten too far. We drove 150 miles and are now parked at the Elks RV park in Tempe Arizona. We were here back in January for about three weeks and enjoyed our stay. We decided to return to catch the last of the seasonal events being held at the nearby Arizona State University and the Tempe Arts Center. There’s a wide-range of musical events we’ll attend from Latin fusion to symphonic bands. We’ll see a play and attend a dance festival at the university. We’ll try to get a...

Jan 23, 2017 - Another Urban Adventure

Well, it’s that time of year. RVers are flocking or have already arrived in the desert town of Quartzsite, Arizona. This dusty town has a population of around 6,000 but it turns into a mega-city of over a hundred thousand as RVers arrive in droves in January and February. They go there for the annual RV show, swap meet, gem and mineral show, meet up with friends and usually enjoy the warmth of the desert. We, however, will not be among those thousands who migrate there. We did check it out several years ago and caravanned with a few people...

Jan 14, 2017 - A Challenging Purchase

ILD, Density, Talalay, Dunlop, Latex, Innerspring, Foam-based, Core, Memory-gel. These are some of the jargon we came across while doing research for a new mattress. I hate shopping so we put off buying a new mattress until ours started sagging and the springs began popping. We did try to band-aid the sagging mattress by buying a cheap memory-foam topper. I hated that topper; it felt like I was sleeping on a marshmallow. With no choice, we reluctantly starting shopping. Buying a new mattress was a challenge. The industry is often compared...

Feb 21, 2016 - Big City Excursion

After nearly four months at Benson, we decided we needed a change of scenery. We are now parked at the Elks Lodge in Tempe, Arizona. Tempe has a population of about 200,000 and is part of the Phoenix Metropolitan area with its population of about four million. The area is quite a change from Benson with its population of about 6,000! There is no shortage of things to do but it is the music and bicycle riding that brought us here. We visited the nicely-designed Tempe History Museum and attended a Taiko (drums, lots of drums and a variety of...

Dec 15, 2013 - Celebration of Christmas at Phoenix First

We ventured to the north side of Phoenix today to Phoenix First Assembly of God to see the annual Christmas Show. This year it was titled the Celebration of Christmas. The show tells about the birth of Jesus through singing, dancing and acting. This show is very similar to the Christmas pageant formerly staged by Paramount Terrace Christian Church and its successor. The show included two silk dancer/performers (those silky fabric things hanging 60 feet above the sanctuary) climbing, twisting and turning high above the audience. They had a...
