Jan 17, 2013 - Godzilla at the Hotel

Today we slept in till 10:30 a.m. I think it was because neither of us slept well. Lois because my snoring kept her awake, and me cause she kept waking me up. John has always told me that I snored really bad, but he is deaf, so I didn’t think too much of it. Lois, however, said it was like sleeping with Godzilla. Geez, I didn’t know it was that bad. So, we went to the store today and I got some nose strips, and Lois got ear plugs, plus I am going to sleep with 3 pillows….all hoping this will work. Keeping my fingers crossed that I am quiet....

Jan 16, 2013 - Wild Horse Casino

For those of you who have followed our journal since the beginning, the photos will look familiar since we were here a year ago last February. For those who are new to our journal I think you will be impressed with the Casino. Started out this morning with a visit to the Chiropractor. Another great treatment, I am even walking straighter. I still have pain, but that will take some time before it goes away. Another appointment on Friday with John. We checked into the hotel first, then went to Chandler Village Mall. Very nice, impressive...

Jan 15, 2013 - Back to Arizona

Oh, my gosh. It has been 3 days since I have entered anything in the Journal, and I have a good excuse for it. But, am sorry I have let so much time go by. I won't do it again. To begin with, we left Deming with mixed emotions on Saturday. We loved the desert there, and the people, especially the owners, and the idea of being in the wild away from the big city. However, we also missed traveling and being close to a big city. Nope, doesn’t make sense, but I missed the city because of all the stores I would be near without driving 1 ½ hours...

Apr 27, 2012 - Happy trails to you until we meet again

After six months in Arizona, we are finally on the road again. The last six months were filled with meeting new friends, spending time with “old” friends, playing a lot of tennis and purchasing a lot in Happy Trails RV Resort. We weren’t planning to buy, but the perfect lot found us and we caught the Happy Trails lifestyle bug. We now have a great spot to hang out for the winter season. We were able to spend a month on our lot before leaving AZ. It wasn’t enough time to get much done except a little cleanup and a complete redo of the...

Apr 3, 2012 - Hoover Dam

Slept in, what a treat. Don’t you just love sleeping in? Bundled up in your blankets, snuggled down in the bed. Ahhhh. We met up with Larry & Lee Ann and went to see Hoover Dam. We first had to cross the new bridge to get to the Dam. For some information about the bridge: “The Mike O'Callaghan – Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, the key component to the Hoover Dam Bypass project, was the first concrete-steel composite arch bridge built in the United States, and it incorporates the widest concrete arch in the Western Hemisphere. Opened on...

Apr 2, 2012 - Willow Beach, Arizona

We left Surprise and our dear friend's home about 10:30 this morning ( a tearful goodbye, till next time good bye) and headed out for Willow Beach, Arizona to meet up with my Hitchitch best buddies, Larry and Lee Ann. John was beside himself as the wind was strong and we were heading right into it, for a 4 hour drive (longer than Gilligan's Island). Why, you ask? Well, he is consumed with MPG and each time the truck and trailer rocked, about every other minute, you could see him gripping the steering wheel even harder. Now, I know most of...

Apr 1, 2012 - Arizona Cactus Flowers on April 1

Woke up late to a great brunch. John and I took a tour of the neighborhood in Jack's electric golf car. Don't we look cute? We drove around the neighborhood and I hopped out every few minutes to take a photo. Hit my head getting back into the cart on my first hop. Ouch! Didn't do it twice, though? What beauty the flowers starting to bloom on the cactus. I had no idea cactus could be so colorful. Had a barbecue with Jack and Lois's next door neighbors and very good friends, Paula and Eddie. Enjoyed their company very much. Was a lovely day...

Mar 31, 2012 - Off to Surprise

After having a great buffet breakfast in the clubhouse this morning and meeting 2 fun couples from Iowa and Illinois, we took a little walk around the park. There is a huge 5th wheel parked here, with 5 slides and so big it took up the entire site. Would have loved to knocked on the door and asked to see it, but wasn't quite brave enough. We took some more photos of the park, and those that know me, understand that I find ladies room decor very interesting. John actually got on top of the trailer to take some of the mountain views. Thank...

Feb 16, 2012 - Where Are We??? Surprise!!

After spending 2 weeks in the desert with no hookups, we are now living in style at a very posh RV resort in Surprise, AZ. It is a lovely park with over 1200 sites - more folks live here than live in our home town of West Branch. It is a 55+ park, but believe me, most of these people are very active and there is not a lack of things to do to be active. Ed has already participated in bocce ball, pickelball, tennis, Texas holdem, cribbage, and euchre. We've been to the pool several times, but have not played water volleyball, which they do...

Feb 6, 2012 - After the party

“What day is it,?" asked Pooh. "It's today," squeaked Piglet. "My favorite day," said Pooh.” Isn’t that the sweetest? We had a great time at the Super Bowl Party yesterday. Everyone arrived about 3 p.m., all bringing food. We had tortilla soup, meatballs, potato casserole, chips & dips, veggies, tortilla meat squares, mini-reuben sandwiches, chocolate pie, berry pie, apple pie and beer and wine. I hope I didn’t leave anything out…at least I know I didn’t miss anything to fill my plate. We were 1/3 for the Giants, 1/3 for the Patriots and...

Feb 4, 2012 - Pancakes and friends

We had the Saturdary breakfast at the RV clubhouse today. Yummy pancakes for me, biscuits and gravy for John. There were quite a few people that had the same idea, so we got a chance to meet some of our neighbors. It is really a great learning time for us when we have the opportunity to talk with people who have done this life for a long time. We are becoming sponges, absorbing as much of their experiences as we can. Always come away with ideas for new places to visit..or where not to. We drove up to Surprise this afternoon, about a 3 ½...

Dec 12, 2011 - Not so weekly

Not So Here is a ‘not so’ weekly update of our wintering in Surprise’ Tennis seems to be taking over our lives. Nancy and I could play in some form of doubles, all day, each and every day. I guess the club we joined for the winter is thirsting for new blood. They certainly are getting plenty of ours. We are not complaining though. The active lifestyle and fellowship of RV vagabonds were the main reasons we wanted to spend the winter in Happy Trails. Nancy has taken to competitive tennis like the proverbial ‘duck to water’. Her only real...
