Dec 16, 2011 - 30 miles in 3 days, Hiking

A dream of mine has been to visit Havasu Falls in Supai, AZ in a side canyon of the Grand Canyon. We drove to Kingman on Friday Dec 16. Bought our supplies, packed our gear, stayed the night at a hotel and left early Sat morning for the Hualapai Hilltop on the hualapai reservation where the trail into Supai village begins. We hiked the eight miles into the village in just over 3 1/2 hours. Not too bad. We made great time. Katie and I had day packs with camlebacks of water and a change of clothes and Mike took a large backpack with our food...

Jun 11, 2008 - 6/11 Havasu Falls

6/11 Packed up and headed out for Havasu Falls. Hit the trail about 8:15 for a 10 mile hike. First 2 1/2 miles down(hill with switch backs) then trail seemed to flatten out. It was very nice, long but nice. Especially when the pack mules came by something different to look at besides rocks, dirt and trees, oh yea and Bill. It was very dusty though. Finally after what seemed like hours ( oh it was hours) we hit Havasupi Indian village. Finally hit some water running down the side of the road. At this point I was so hot asked Bill for his...

Sep 20, 2007 - Next, to Havasupai

19:09:07 I was sad to leave Sedona, I would have loved to have spent more time there, but we needed an early start as it will take four hours to drive to Havasupai. North of Sedona looked real nice too, but no time! Havasupai is a very beautiful place, recently featured in the Nicholas Cage film Next, where the lovely Jessica Biel was a teacher at Havasupai. Basically, Havasupai is a Native American reservation in the Grand Canyon, like a hidden paradise (except for the Native American bits, which are a bit scummy). To get there, we walked...

Aug 25, 2006 - North Rim of the Grand Canyon

Wow, What a great 3 days we had at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon!!!! Ken & I spent a day here 9 years ago ( on our honeymoon ) and had always wanted to come back and spend more time. This time we stayed in the campground inside the park and spent alot of time hiking the trails and attending various Ranger talks & programs. The North Rim of the Canyon is seperated by only 10 air miles from the South Rim but is over 120 road miles. It receives less than 1/10th of the visitors that the South Rim does due to this remoteness. There are...

Oct 24, 2005 - Havasupai Indian Reservation

Week 3 is done and only 9 weeks left- this assignment is going fast! Work is still going well- some days we are busy and some days we don't have much to do. I went hiking with the other travellers after work on Wed- not along hike since we only have an hour before sunset after work (does the sun set at 5:50pm back on the East coast?). Yesterday, I left early in the morning and drove to the Havasupai Indian Reservation, which is just west of Grand Canyon National Park. The reservation is known for it's beautiful waterfalls and for it's...
