Oct 6, 2018 - October 6, 2018 – Sun City, Arizona

October 6, 2018 – Sun City, Arizona The 1st thing that Sue and I did this morning was go to the New York Bakery. It occupies a small building, but the variety of baked goods is staggering. There was everything from bread to pastries of every variety you could imagine to cookies to cakes. Sue bought bread, Danish, cannoli and a cherry crumb cake. I bought a cannoli cake. There goes my effort to lose weight! And, you don’t want to know how much money we spent. We had the crumb cake for breakfast and saved the pastries for tomorrow. We had the...

Oct 5, 2018 - October 5, 2018 – Sun City Arizona

October 5, 2018 – Sun City Arizona This morning, Alice, Sue and I went to Carefree and Cave Creek. These 2 towns abut each other and are 30 miles or more north of Phoenix and Sun City. They are artist’s colonies now. There is every variety of sculpture and kitschy decorative arts stores and galleries that you can imagine. We saw the “largest sundial in the world” at Carefree. Unfortunately, the local farmers’ market was spread out underneath it so you couldn’t really tell much about it. We had lunch at one of Sue and Alice’s favorite...

Oct 4, 2018 - October 4, 2018 – Sun City, Arizona

October 4, 2018 – Sun City, Arizona This morning I visited with Sue and Alice before Sue had to leave to set up the Sun City Library’s booth at the Farmer’s Market. After Sue left, I got ready and headed out to Taliesin West. This was the winter camp for Frank Lloyd Wright, his 3d wife and 2 children. It is named after his home in Wisconsin which was Taliesin. It means shining brow. Wright wanted a home where there was no one around, and he found the place in 1937. He was 70 when he began Taliesin West. He lived there during the winters...

Oct 3, 2018 - October 3, 2018 – Socorro, New Mexico to Sun City, Arizona

October 3, 2018 – Socorro, New Mexico to Sun City, Arizona I was on the road shortly after 7 this morning. I took US 60 from Socorro. If you ever have the chance to make this drive, you absolutely should take it. It passes the Very Large Array bout 50 miles west of Socorro and goes through the Salt River Canyon in the White Mountains west of Globe, Arizona. I started out driving across the High Plains with a straight road with nary a curve for many miles. After Globe, you have entered into the White Mountains, and the scenery is...

Oct 15, 2016 - Our home for awhile

Yes, we made it to Arizona. In fact, we arrived Sunday afternoon and have been settling in. We are at Paradise RV Resort in Sun City, Arizona. Very large RV resort with nice sized sites. Lots of park-models for all the permanent residents. We have been visiting with Jack and Lois Fairchild and enjoying being back in the sun. John took a job in security here in the park. Three nights a week with a nice discount on our space and a salary as well. We are, however, committed for a 6 month assignment. So, here we are....and will be till the...

Feb 7, 2016 - Super Bowl

I am watching the movie “Eat, Love, Pray” tonight and finding myself identifying with the main character who sets out to find herself by traveling to Italy, India and Bali. But, do you need to travel to find yourself? Unless, you consider driving around the country in an RV, where you get to experience new adventures, new friends and new foods (yes, food is always a priority). Yeah, I think I found myself by traveling, by looking deep within myself, by opening myself up to new people and by learning that as I get older, life is an amazing...

Jan 20, 2016 - Middle of January already??

I see it has been a long time since entering anything in the journal. I guess since we are "hanging" around till April, I really haven't had anything of interest to add. But, then I remembered that not only is this journal for you, but also for me...to remember what we have been doing with this twilight of our years..hahaha. Today I had lunch with my friend, Connie. We went to "Rubios" Mexican restaurant. It is a lot like Chipolte as it is fresh food (not with anything to make you sick, however..I know bad joke) and they serve wine....

Dec 28, 2015 - We made a decision

Whew, what a relief. After dragging our tails around we decided that since we have to leave this RV park on Friday, we had best find a place to land. We visited 2 RV parks in Phoenix and the first one barely saw our front tires hit the entrance before we were backing out! You know the term "trailer park", well, this was definitely one of those. The second one was a little better, but it was out in the middle of nowhere and the spots weren't very big. Back on the highway where we headed to Goodyear. It is about 1/2 hour or so from where we...

Dec 22, 2015 - What to do, where to go

Isn't indecision wonderful? Sometimes I just want some voice to come down from the sky and tell us what to do. We are thinking of settling down, but think selling the RV would be the best move to make. But, if we get the RV sold before we find a house, we have no place to live, other than the truck. That doesn't sound like fun. John's legs are too long and would take up too much room...not to mention the room Toby takes up. Yikes!! That isn't our only indecision...where to go on January 1st. We have to move out of here on that day, but...

Dec 17, 2015 - Latest

Christmas is just around the corner. Doesn't it seem as though the time speeds up around July, then it is the Holidays! And, are we ever ready for it! Not us, that's for sure. We went out for dinner with Jack & Lois for yummy burgers, then off to see the Christmas lights in neighborhoods and the Sun City Grande main auditorium. Trees, or better yet, Palm trees wrapped with thousands of lights making a wonderland of bright colors. The inside of the building was beautiful with amazing wall hangings and a decorated Christmas tree. It was...

Dec 9, 2015 - Catching up

With John and I both out with the crud, we haven't been up to doing much. I cannot believe that our time here in Sun City is just about up and there are so many restaurants we haven't been able to visit. Time waits for no one. I have found Yelp to be a great resource for finding restaurants and businesses. If you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend it. We have been relying on the reviews from everyday folk help us decide where to go for that special meal. You must give it a try! Some important information for you: Going for the 2nd...

Nov 30, 2015 - Creeping Crud defined

I could have sworn that I entered the journal entry that I did last night...guess I forgot that final duty. Sorry... Anyhoo, John and I still have the creeping crud. I had no idea that it actually has a definition. I am sure you are waiting with bated breath...so, here it is" Creeping Crud A close relative of "you don't know where that's been." Creeping crud is when you don't know what invisible germs and dirt is on a surface and you try not to touch it. The term can also be used to describe an unidentifiable substance, or to describe crud...
