Today we left the warmth of the valley and the greater Phoenix area by heading up over Mogollon Rim to Show Low and then on to Snowflake where we are set up for the time being. Time being because my back went out again and the pain is fairly severe. Fortunately, there are 2 positions where I'm relatively pain free, sitting up in a chair or seat or laying flat on my back. Mar 21, 2010 - Snowflake and the Salt River Canyon

On the road today - and what a trip it was - we came to Snoflake via the Top of the World and the Salt River canyon - it was a magnificent trip - The Canyon is really something to behold - OMG breathtaking - we were warned not to take our RV over this road and it was up and down and steep and switchback and very hard on the truck but certainly worth the effort. Mar 2, 2006 - Petrified Forest and onto Pinetop, AZ

After a nice breakfast we said our farewells to the Penuela/Wermers and were on our way down I-40 headed for Petrified Forest. What a different sort of park: It was much more impressive than we expected even after 200 million years the petrified wood, reimerging from the ground as rock is stunning. Each walk was more striking than the one before it. We started at the north part of the park and worked our way south taking in every hike and overlook we could.
