May 25, 2013 - In Search of Rt. 66

May 25th, Sarah's Birthday-Happy Birthday Terrific Daughter, and a blissful, cool morning in Williams, AZ! Great day to head out to discover what Rt 66 has to offer. Think the "CARS" movie, you younger set and you'll understand this. We've been traveling on Interstate 40, the highway built taking the traffic off of 'The Mother Road" which originally took folks from Chicago to LA, we wanted to discover some of the real thing. We headed back into Williams for a diner breakfast then back west toward Seligman. It was one of those "Forest Gump...

Nov 21, 2011 - I'm Tod, she's Buz

Younger readers will not get this title reference but we are on Historic Route 66 and the TV show of the early 60s had two characters Tod and Buz riding in their 1961 Corvette across the country on Route 66. So we are gettin' our kicks thinking our big honkin' dually is actually a hot Corvette. Man what an interesting ride so far. We started at the last Arizona exit of I 40 just before crossing into California. The road was a little rough and as we got into the mountains the scenery was just breathtaking. There are a lot of very neat things...

Apr 22, 2011 - Day 18 Route 66

Today we drove THE ROUTE west from Ash Fork to Hackberry, AZ. Many small, but interesting places and lots of gift shops. We took many, many pictures, but decided to only post a few. Many of the towns along THE ROUTE have long ago disappeared. A few of them survive by the skin of their teeth. And a couple survive thanks to the tourist dollars. Ask Fork is one of the not so lucky. Their main business is flagstone and the town is now the Flagstone Capital of the World. As we drove through, we counted at least 4 businesses that deal in...

Retirement Rocks!!

Dec 9, 2009 - Day 9

Got up this morning to the sunshine, blue sky, and no wind but still cold. So off we went. Stopped to fill up and wash the windshield and the wash water was froze. Finally ran out of the snow and stopped and got a geo under a bunch of rocks. Going through Flagstaff on top of the mountain, they had 20 inches of snow on Tuesday and just got cleaned up. Saw a semi flipped over in the ditch. Stopped a 6:00 PM at a 24 hr Gas station where the semi's go and spent the night. Still in the snow and cold.

We had a nice relaxing visit with them that included going over old pictures, touring the community facilities, attending a craft fair and an evening walk in the neighbourhood. Mac and Keitha are always so...

Jun 8, 2008 - 6/8-6/10 Grand Canyon & Seligman Az.

6/8 Took it easy today. A bus tour to the different look out points. Not much walking, still trying to heal my toe. Took in a beautiful sunset at 7:45 than back to trailer to get ready for dinner. Bill made reservations for a night @ El Travar. A very beautiful place to end our Grand Canyon stay. 6/9 Left the canyon arrived K.O.A in Seligman Arizona, by the way of route 66. Not much here to see, but it sure does remind you of the movie Cars. Bill picked this place so I could have a few days to swim and just relax. No luck. Pool is under...

Feb 20, 2008 - Brought our motorhome back to Prescott Valley.

We took a ride up north to cousin Joe's ranch. Helped him do a few things on his place then commenced opening our motorhome and getting it and the gator on the trailor ready to travel after sitting since last July. Everything was in good shape, the motorhome started right up as did the generator and the gator. Needed a bit of air in a few tires but that wasn't a big problem thanks to Joe as he has an air compressor in one of his containers. So then we had about 4 miles of dirt road and an hour and a half drive. So now we have them at Joe's...

Oct 31, 2007 - Seligman AZ

The campground we stayed at in Las Vegas has warning in its advertising that they have pet size restrictions. What did we meet up with the first trip to the doggie park, a 175 lb Great Dane. Well, this morning there was quite a parade to the doggie park and when Doug and Fillmore got there, we were greeted by a 200 lb Newfoundland. Fillmore and the Newfie played together for a while after Fillmore sniffed every pebble in the pen. Doug did part of his hitch up process and then we left for a short drive to make our appointment with EMC2....
