Dec 7, 2014 - Spectacular Sedona

Another beautiful drive north. I've taken so many pictures of this part of Arizona that they become redundant but I never get tired of the spectacular scenery - red rock country. After checking in I drove to the grocery store and picked up a few breakfast items. Don't plan on eating any other meals in the condo - I'm on vacation . ( aren't I always on vacation?) Watched Monday Night Football and relaxed this evening. Hope to hear from Jane and Jim tomorrow . They are meeting me here for a few days. Weather is supposed to be terrific until...

Sep 19, 2014 - Sedona

We could only get a spot in the RV Park for one night so we headed to some public parking that I was told had spots for tour buses and RV's. There were only 6 spots but when we got there it was wide open and the best part...it's free! There are two things about Sedona, the views and the shopping. The shopping is all along one major street and there must be 4-5 tour companies to show you the views. The day before we saw one of the touring vehicles drop people off at the RV park. It had straps on the inside of the roll bars and the people...

Sep 18, 2014 - Albuquerque to Sedona

Wouldn't you know it, the day we leave Albuquerque is sunny and clear. We had half a mind to head to the Sandia Sky Tram but by then we were over it. So, off we headed out of town to Sedona. The drive started out pretty flat with not much to see. We were on I40 that is a pretty large major highway. It cuts through several Indian Resverations (Canoncito, Laguna, Acoma Pueblo) and as we made our way west you notice the terrian change. We made two stops, one in Grants for supplies (the local walmart) and in Gallup New Mexico to hit the many...

Sep 16, 2014 - Sedona AZ

We were warned not to take the RV down State Road 89a out of Flagstaff to Sedona because one section has many s-curves. The alternate route is south on I-17 then north on Highway 179 through Oak Creek. It was fine until we got to Sedona. There the road is a series of round-abouts. They are not easily negotiated with a 37-foot 5th wheel either. But we made it to the Elks' Lodge without too much heart failure. Sedona is drop-dead gorgeous. The red rock formations are magnificent. And Sedona has vortexes, one just behind the Elks' Lodge. And...

We drove down to Sedona and our first stop was at 101 Omelette for some great Bloody Mary and omelettes. We sat on the patio and it was very nice. We then took a drive up to the airport lookout for a picture moment then drove down a ways on 89A. We then took a drive into town and stopped to do some shopping. This may surprise a few but Cathy and I each found a trinket. We then drove back up to Flagstaff, did our grocery shopping and returned to the RV park for happy hour and a great dinner of CA salmon.

Our last day in Sedona was a down day...no specific plans. Tracy and I decided to go hiking in the Coconino NF. Pat and Ves hung out at 'The Rooms Upstairs'. We selected the Brins Mesa Trail. The trailhead was near our lodging. We headed north up Jordan road. It deadended into Park Ridge Road, which we took a left on and drove a short distance to its deadend. We were in the Coconino NF. The trail took us up the canyon up onto Brins Mesa. From the mesa top, the views were big and beautiful. We lingered on the Mesa for a while enjoying the...

Jul 29, 2014 - Sedona, Arizona

Pink Jeep Tours has been providing off-road adventure in the area since 1960. We chose to book the Ancient Ruins Tour. The Ancient Ruins Tour took us on an archaeological excursion through the cliff dwelling at the Honanki Heritage Site. The Sinagua, ancestors of the Hopi, lived here from about AD1100 to 1300. Our professional driver was also our guide. He was very knowledgeable and did a great job. It was a great mornings outing. After lunch, Tracy and I hiked the Jim Thompson Trail #124 in the Coconino National Forest. Pat and Ves hung...

Jul 28, 2014 - Sedona, Arizona

We arrived in Sedona, AZ in late afternoon. What a beautiful place. We settled in to 'The Rooms Upstairs', then went out to eat. We would spend four nights in Sedona and sight see and rest. Our lodging was a few blocks from Main Street. It was two well appointed rooms above an architectural firm. We had a large patio all to our selves. Our first evening, a storm moved through. We sat on the patio and watched it approch Sedona. What a view.

2014-2016 Travels

Jul 17, 2014 - The glorious Southwest

From California, we drove out through the desert, past Joshua Tree National Park (and getting the obligatory stamper), to visit my recently retired uncles Ron and Jim in Sedona Arizona. What a spectacular place! A highlight included climbing to the top of the "vortex," said to evoke intense energy and feelings. Besides being energetically enthralled at the beauty of the place, the only other feeling I had was anxiety about how we would get down! Later, quick stops included checking in with our Schwab financial advisor (Brian Cacchiotti) at...

Rumsky Retirement?

Jul 10, 2014 - Sunrise in Sedona, AZ

Today, Thursday, July 10, 2014 We were up at 5:30 and said let's go take dawn pictures of Sedona since we have had clouds every evening and could not get sunset pictures. We climbed a 100 foot dome rock on the Airport Road. It was cool temperature and cool pictures. Actually we loved the temperature but others on the hill thought it was cold. As the sun came up gradually, we could see both sides with red rock mountains. There were four hot air balloons up also. Bob took lots of pictures hoping to get a couple great shots. After taking...

Jul 10, 2014 - Grand Canyon Arizona

Wednesday, July 9, 2014 – Grand Canyon We are off to the Grand Canyon at 6:15. First we go through the Oak Creek Canyon. There are a few pictures of this canyon again. We were too early for the Indian sales at the top of the Canyon. We drove through the Navaho Nation and stopped at one of their open are shops and bought a couple items. Thought we could since we are only two weeks from home. We entered the Grand Canyon Nation Park from the East entrance which was recommended by our tour driver yesterday. We really enjoyed it. There were lots...
