Apr 16, 2015 - Tucson - St. David

After leaving Senator Wash we arrived in Pilot Knob right outside of Yuma,AZ. Not much going on in the Yuma area at this time of the year as all the rock hound shows and vendors leave around the end of Feb. We caught up on showers, wash and groceries. One night we drove into Yuma to a free outdoor jazz festival. A lively little group of guitarist, keyboard, bass and guitar players who also sang. It was a gorgeous evening and very entertaining. We went to dinner before the festival at Logan's Roadhouse. I had a steak and Mark had ribs; we...

Feb 24, 2014 - St. David RV Resort

This morning we finished the "day of travel" duties, putting interior items away along with the disconnecting process of utilities, awnings and jacks. As we were finishing up the process friends from around the park stopped by to share farewell wishes and promises of seeing one another next winter. Once the engine on the motorhome was engaged, friends who were parked nearer us to continued the farewell process. More contact cards were exchanged and we were soon on our way around 10AM. There were a few items we wanted at Costco on our way...

Feb 4, 2014 - back to warm weather, Arizona

Hi All – we made it back to warm weather Finally able to leave San Antonio after the freeway closures we headed West on I-10. We stayed in Balmorhea, TX – a small (really small) town right on I-10. Actually, there was an RV park and gas station/café. But we did pick up new friends while there. We met Burke and Lee Pease and found out that they were headed to Benson, AZ and we were headed to St David – 5 miles down the road. We had breakfast the next morning together at the café and exchanged information for a get together in Benson when...

Jan 31, 2013 - Snow, Snow and More Snow

New Year's Day began the process of trying to get rid of the snow so we could leave our cold, cold retreat in the mountains. Our son-in-law removed as much snow as he could and then put down some Ice Melt. The forecast was for some warmer days to come and we hoped we'd make it out to the highway. And, then I got sick with the upper respiratory problem that was going around and we weren't going anywhere. While waiting, it snowed more and we were in a winter wonderland, stuck. I was finally up and dressed on the 19th, having been in bed since...

Feb 28, 2012 - Western Horizons Resort, St. David, Arizona

Yesterday, we left Gilbert Ray Campground early, we had another minor leak needing the attention of the experts at Fisher RV in Tucson. Since their prices are so reasonable and their service is so good, we felt comfortable about a return to their shop. Once the leak was repaired (fresh water gravity fill hose), we headed for I-10 east and St. David a short 45 miles distant. Glad it wasn't any further, we had a quartering headwind and it was a difficult task to keep everything within the lines as we motored east. We will be at the Western...

Jan 25, 2012 - We did it!

Oh my gosh! We did it! We got an offer we couldn't refuse (thanks "Godfather" to one of the greatest lines in any movie). We got a 31.8' Jayco Eagle Trailer...it seriously beats a 24' by a huge 7'. Now you may not think 7 feet is much, but when you are in your home...it is amazing how much difference that can be. Instead of John sitting on the sofa, reaching his arm out to me sitting in the dinette, he now will actually have to take 3 steps to reach me from him siting in the sofa and me in the overstuffed chair..oh, my .....it is going to...

Jan 23, 2012 - oh, boy

We looked at an RV that we really liked. Oh, Boy. In Sierra Vista we found a Chinese restaurant that had a buffet. Don't you just love buffet's? You get so many choices and of course, the eyes are much bigger than the stomach. We had to try almost everything they had and really enjoyed our 1st Chinese dinner since we left in October. Sweet and Sour...yum. I have never been able to use chopsticks and cannot understand what my problem is. It cannot be that hard since a couple billion people in this world use them. I think I will try eating...

Jan 22, 2012 - Cochise Stronghold and City of Fairbank

Today we headed out for Cochise Stronghold. On the way we were being followed by a few cars and John doesn't like to feel like he is holding up traffic. He saw a sign for Fairbank and turned into the area. Lo and behold, we found a treasure. Small, old ghost town which is now a Land Management Park that allows camping and picnicking. We got out of the truck and walked around the neat buildings. We saw the trail to the cemetery, and you know how fascinated I am by old cemeteries, so off we went. There was a sign showing it was about a...

Jan 21, 2012 - A day like any other day

Best laid plans. We were going to go Chocise Stronghold yesterday, but somehow the day got away from us and next thing we knew, it was too late to start out. I am not going to post where we are going next since it appears that we wake up and decide to do something different. That is the life of a retiree, isn’t it? Wake up in the morning, have a good stretch and decide on your day from then…or even wing it from hour to hour. It was really windy today. The trailer was swaying a bit which gives the feeling of being on a boat, except there...

Jan 19, 2012 - Truck Repair...again.

We got up early to go into Sierra Vista to the Dodge dealer to see about the universal joint on the front end of John’s truck. I am very aware that the truck is our transportation, taking us to all the places that we want to go, however, there comes a time when it becomes irritating that the stupid thing needs to have something done to it almost every time we turn around…like 3 times this month alone. I am a little unhappy, if you can tell. After arriving at the dealer we had to find something to do, and there was IHOP standing by itself...

Jan 15, 2012 - Mission Accomplished

Ta Da! I got my chocolate. Yesterday, while John was glued to the T.V. watching the 49'er game, I drove into town and headed for Wal-Mart (cheap prices..an RV'rs favorite store) and I bought some chocolate chip cookies and a small (2 slices) chocolate turtle cake. Well, to my surprise one of those Wal-Mart people actually came into my line of vision and I was halted in my tracks. Here in little Benson, Arizona was a real Wal-Mart person. I know she has a great sense of self confidence to have worn the outfit she had on, and I applaud her...

Jan 13, 2012 - Ducks and Chocolate

Another cool, but sunny day, and with sun…how can you go wrong? John had to take the truck in for an oil change and have the brakes worked on. Poor guy, he left about 08:30 a.m. and did not return until 3:30 p.m. He had to spend the whole day in town, drinking gallons of coffee, making friends with the waitress, visiting the shops and sitting on benches, walls and leaning on lamp posts. It’s a wonder he didn’t get arrested for loitering. I, however, went back to bed when he left, finished my book, watched my soap (I love Young & Restless),...
