Feb 14, 2018 - Lunch with Marion's sister

Lunch today with Marion's sister down at Queen Creek. It was supposed to be some neat place to go to. I don't think any of us were impressed with the place. It was a bar (San Tan Flats restaurant) with a few seats inside and many outside,it was good that we were early and got a spot to sit inside as it was overcast with showers today. We had to do everything yourself, find menu, get drinks from bar, order from a inside window, eventually haul it all back to the table... No service...No Tip...Not impressed. Then back to Mesa to play cards...

Jul 12, 2015 - Homeward Bound

Mom: Yeah, OK, so we've been home for two weeks. This is what I get for arriving home right before I have to go back to work. After we left Mount Rushmore, we stopped in Longmont, CO and spent the night in a nice hotel where I had purchased the family package. Although it was fun, we didn't exactly take advantage of the amenities since the kids were sick. But is was nice to be in a place where everyone could rest before the final push home. We spent the last night in Cortez, CO. The final day's drive included stops at the Four Corners...

I'm about to go to bed after a very busy day of preparations. I just realized that I have been looking forward to a Monday for 6 months. I can't remember ever being able to say that before! We are hoping to be out the door by 8:00 in the morning. Our first stop is a "basic" motel in Van Horn, TX.

East Loop Trip 2015

Mar 26, 2014 - I'm so sad that it's over...

Up at 5:30 and started a very long day of travel. I got to the airport around 7:30 for a 9:15 flight. I met up with many of my fellow McKay Safari travelers. We arrived on time and went straight to our next flight. We arrived in London and had about 2 hours til the really looooong flight to Houston. There were several of my friends on that flight too but none of us sat close to each other. I lucked out and had no one sitting next to me for an 11 hour flight – it was wonderful to be able to stretch out. I was able to nap several times and...

Feb 21, 2014 - Queen Creek Olive Mill & The Pork Shop

Wednesday we visited Queen Creek Olive Mill but were really not whatwe were expecting. Oh there were lots of tourists, lot of their products were on display for purchase and their restaurant was busy but there wasn't an olive tree or vineyard in sight. Maybe we were thinking it would be more like the wineries we've been to in California where you really feel the experience of being in a vineyard. We did pick up a few things though like a big bottle of roasted garlic extra virgin olive oil. Sorry no photos from here. On our way back we...

Feb 18, 2014 - Arizona Renaissance Festival

We went to the Arizona Renaissance Festival yesterday. We went a couple of years ago so we decided to make a return trip. Tickets were half price on President's day so we took advantage of the deal. It is kind of fun to see all those people in period costumes and speaking in a Queen's English accent. We enjoyed the guy cracking the bull whips. He holds something like 12 Guinness records for his talent. His name? Adam Crack! We watched a Birds of Prey show and enjoyed seeing a Harris Hawk, a Red-tailed Hawk, a Great Horned Owl and a Bald...

Feb 13, 2014 - Schnepf's Farm

Today, we drove the short trip from Mesa to Queen Creek (about 12 miles) to visit Schnepf Farms. The farm is a working 300 acre peach farm (six different types of peaches, as well as a few apples, plums, grapes and various vegetables. Most of the produce is sold on a "U Pick" basis. About 10 % of the produce is sold in local grocery stores. This time of the year is the "Peach Blossom" season. Amazingly, the trees have been blooming about the last three weeks and all of the peaches will be picked by the end of May. Our tour guide was the...

Feb 10, 2014 - Mardi Gras Parade/Party

The day started with Zumba class for Paula and me. Then, the park had its annual Mardi Gras Parade. And, our Zumba danced/walked/strutted in the parade. We had to have Mardi Gras really early because things are so busy around here. The theme this year was "It's 5 o'clock Somewhere". As if these old folks need another reason to party! The beer and wine was free - so, a lot of folks turned out. The beer flowed from 2:00 until 7:00 pm. Plenty of time for a lot of people to get blitzed! It looked like a college frat/sorority party at the end...

Nov 15, 2013 - Queen Creek Olive Mill

Jane and I took a ride to the Queen Creek Olive Mill this morning. The owners have expanded the place - good thing because it always was so crowded in there. After we did tastings of all the different kinds of olive oils we made our purchases and headed across the street to what was advertised as a country store/ bakery. Turned out to be a complete waste of time . San Tan Village Mall was our next stop. Neither Dillard's nor Macy's had what we were looking for but the sales people gave us a few leads one of which was "try the internet".

Nov 2, 2013 - Winter home arrival

We put 168 miles behind us today and arrived at the Skyline RV Resort in San Tan Valley, Arizona at just past noon. Our home on wheels will be parked here until sometime in early April of next year and we are looking forward to a winter of sunshine, warm dry weather and good friends. The weather was perfect for our journey to San Tan Valley today with clear skies, very little wind and a high temperature of 88 degrees this afternoon. It was a bit too warm to comfortably set up our winter digs, but we managed to get a little done before...

Feb 26, 2013 - Day 225 - Phoenix area

We started the day with breakfast at IHOP with Don and Verna. The plan is to spend the afternoon golfing. Don called for a tee time and was surprised to hear that they were busy and that we couldn't get on until 3 pm. We spent the time soaking up sun in the back yard. When headed over to Bear Creek Cub Course to try our hand at golf for our first US game. This is a Par 3 course and we did not do too badly. I even had a couple of pars, even though my putting was terrible. Garry did slightly better but had his usual trouble finding the center...

The Wandering Nunns

Feb 25, 2013 - Day 224 - Phoenix Area

Today is a chores day. Our bathroom door has been giving us trouble in that it will not shut even when we are level. Garry inspected and determined that the nylon washers in the hinges were broken and could not be replaced because the hinges were a riveted unit, so off we were to find new hinges. We had looked already in Lake Havasu with no luck, the scrww holes were not in the same places and we did not want to make new holes in the frame. Armed with a RV supplier address and list of RV parts stores we headed to Mesa. Our RV Park host...
