We really enjoyed our time in Helena. We took the Last Chance Train Tour of the city and learned a lot about the mining history of Helena and how it became the Capital. Lots of beautiful old buildings. We then toured the State Capitol building. It’s really beautiful - lots of stained glass and murals. We decided to have lunch in the Capitol cafeteria. We sat in a booth across from a very distinguished looking gentleman and a young lady. I told Jean I thought he might be a lobbyist or a member of the governing body. As he rose to leave he...

Aug 20, 2012 - East side of Glacier National Park
We’ve spent this past week on the east side of Glacier National Park. It has been a great week. We took the red “Jammer” bus up to Logan Pass and back; drove the Many Glacier Road twice – once on a foggy, overcast day and once in the Sunshine. We were told there were lots of bear on that road. All we saw were free range cattle all over the road. We also drove the east side of the “Road to the Sun” in our own vehicle as there was much we were unable to see from the bus. On Thursday we drove into Canada to the Waterton Lakes area of Glacier...

Aug 17, 2012 - Travel from Phoenix to Tucson, AZ
We drove from Phoenix to Tucson. Visited the Wings office and met the office staff. Discussed upcoming trips with Wings. Went to the Tucson Bird and Wildlife Festival and checked in. Went through the exhibitors at the Nature Expo. Two exibitors remembered us from the San Diego Bird Festival! Met Tom and Linda Crawford, from Untamed Confections, makers of all natural , melt-in-your-mouth honey caramel. They are local rockhounds and sent us to Sierrita Mountain to look for fluorite. We found green, purple, white and yellow fluorite. Not a lot...

After leaving Ketchum/Sun Valley, ID we drove Highway 93 north through ID and into Montana. Cannot begin to describe the beauty that met us at every turn. The road follows the Salmon River and we followed its twists and turns as it cut through the mountains. AWESOME! We stopped at a beautiful RV park - Jim and Mary’s - outside Missoula, MT. We toured a little of Missoula and enjoyed the shows that were presented at the campground the two nights we were there - a young man honing his bullwhip technique and a singing duo (country music). A...

Don’t know quite how many miles we’ve traveled since we left Cedar City, UT, but we traveled into Nevada and followed Highway 93 North. Came across a beautiful state park called Cathedral Canyon. A very beautiful site and a lovely ranger who was delightful to talk to and very informative. We spent the next nights in Ely, NV and Twin Falls, ID. We continued on 93/75 into Ketchum/Sun Valley, ID and have been here for 4 days. What a wonderful couple of days. We took the gondola up Mount Baldy and had lunch at the Roundhouse Restaurant. We then...

Aug 2, 2012 - Phoenix

Jul 29, 2012 - Cedar City, UT
We’ve been on the road since Tues., July 24 and have been doing well. Trying to get used to the changes in the coach, but for the most part it’s comfortable and working well. We started out at Bonito Campground in Sunset Crater Nat’l Park and got to see Cass and Paul (the hosts we had met at Homolavi in April). There was a glitch in the electronic step and, thankfully, Paul was able to fix it for me. We drove through Marble Canyon and the Vermillion Cliffs on our way to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Stayed two nights in the Park and...

Today’s steamy adventure started about 10:30 with our departure from Apache Palms followed by about a 30 minute trip to the city of Scottsdale to Taliesin West. You’re probably wondering what that is aren’t you? Taliesin West is one of the homes designed by famed American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. It was built in the late 1930’s by Wright and his architectural students and sits on 600 acres in the mountains above Scottsdale. It was his winter home from 1937 until he died in 1959 and is also the location of his architectural school,...

Our day started early – yet unintentionally – at 5:30am when the body shop guy in Red Bay AL returned my call about scheduling the body work we need to get done. Since I didn’t tell him we were in CA, it is kind of my fault. Needless to say, I missed the call, but was pretty much awake till I got out of bed at 7:00. We packed up and after a fuel stop, got on the road eastboundish just before 10:00. The first hour east from San Diego on I-8 was basically a climb over the mountains, then once we hit the Imperial Valley west of El Centro CA,...

Jun 1, 2012 - Packed and Ready...
Packed and ready to go!! Prescott Valley isn’t that far from home but its 4,000 feet higher in elevation than Phoenix and 20 to 25 degrees difference in temperature. Today we are scheduled to hit 110 here in the valley. We leave first thing in the morning. It takes me 10 minutes to pack. The red head’s been packing for three weeks. You would not believe how much she can get into small suitcase. The couple we are renting from in June live here in Pebble Creek near us. They bought this place in Prescott last year to live in as a summer home;...

May 31, 2012 - The First Leg
We left Phoenix early Saturday morning, the 19th.of May, on our first leg of our journey north. We all felt that leaving early was a good idea since we had to drive about 300 miles and a lot of that would be on the desert. We headed north and it was in the mid 80's or so leaving Phoenix but going north we gained altitude arriving in Flagstaff at 7000 feet and temps in the the 60's! Hooray for that! We were heading to Bullhead City. That town is on the border of Arizona and Nevada, along the Colorado River, right across the river from...
