Mar 22, 2019 - My Onan is generating a lot of FRUSTRATION

We left Yuma yesterday to come to Phoenix to get our Onan generator repaired. As you recall, the generator was inspected, adjusted and tested extensively last July. I wrote earlier in this journal about the issues of running and shutting down after 10 minutes all the way to two hours. We had the same issues driving to Phoenix yesterday. However, this morning, Cummins could not get the generator to run more than 30 seconds at any one time. Then they determined they could not repair as the issue is the same as last year and will require the...

Jan 19, 2019 - Update on our plans!

As we have mentioned many times our plans are never set in stone, only in Jell-O. We have a change. We were all set to leave Phoenix on January 15 and head south to Patagonia Lake State Park for a week and then to Tucson for a week before returning to Phoenix. But dang it all, we had to cancel those plans for now. Karen started to have some problems with spasms and severe pain in the back of her legs making walking and doing stairs very difficult so now she has an appointment with her orthopedist to evaluate the situation and a possible...

Dec 30, 2018 - Back in Phoenix!

We arrived in Phoenix on November 14th and headed to Jeff and Nina’s new place since Jeff had said we could park our boat in his garage for a few days. Elly was home and we both got big hugs from her. So nice to see her after several months away. We got the boat into the garage without banging into any walls or the stuff stored there (what else is a garage for, right?). We then pulled the rig in position and unhooked the truck. We had one more night before checking into the RV park where we had a reservation. We thought we would spend the...

Aug 8, 2018 - Arizona, Part 4

One nice aspect of our travels is the opportunity to visit with friends across the country, mostly folks we know who have left New Jersey. Last summer with visited with three couples who now live in Florida. Today, we had dinner with a former co-worker of Vivian who now lives in the Phoenix area. Debbie Popiel worked at Chapel Hill Academy before moving to Arizona nine years ago. She and Vivian have kept in touch through the years, so when we knew when we would be in the Phoenix area Vivian contacted her. We met up with Deb and her husband...

Southwest trek

May 29, 2018 - Tempe, Arizona

We got to visit with our friends who live in Scottsdale which was great since we had not seen them in three years. We also toured the Wrigley Mansion where we also had a nice lunch. By Friday, we had decided to leave early because of the heat. The temperature on Saturday was expected to reach 110 degrees and there are air quality warnings. So, we skipped town early Saturday morning to head for Flagstaff, Arizona where the high for Saturday was expected to be 75 degrees.

Mexico and Cuba 2018

Mar 12, 2018 - Monday, Phoenix AZ

We are getting ready to leave tomorrow for our journey to Lake Havasu City. Candy went to Wal-Mart to get any provisions we may need. This has been an interesting stay in Phoenix and the park has been great working on moving people coming in so we didn’t need to move sites. Candy will go down and play her last bingo game here. Update, she came back from the bingo game and won $93.00. I was surprised that the local people didn’t run her out.

Mar 11, 2018 - NASCAR Phoenix

My new friend Chuck, from Yuma, and I attended the NASCAR Cup race in Phoenix. Great seats, was a four car race though, but what a neat track. This was the last Phoenix/ISM race to be run with the original layout. Construction/renovations are underway to build new grandstands, move the start finish line, and get this, LOWER THE INFIELD; basically dig it up, to provide unrestricted views from the grandstands of the entire track. Todays layout, one can only see/view portions of the track. The new configuration, will be completed before the...

2018 RV Adventure

Mar 10, 2018 - Saturday, Phoenix AZ

We took in the Mesa Market Place today in Mesa AZ. It was about 90 minute drive to get there, now I remember why I dislike big cities. The traffic was busy. The place is a large flea market, so you could buy just about anything you need. It took us 4 hours to just walk around the place because it was so big and it was crowded. Did not bring much home, just one bag. Candy wore herself out with all that walking but I was alright, I rode. That was it for the day.

2018 Winter

Mar 8, 2018 - Thursday, Phoenix

We day tripped to Cave Creek with is a little town northeast of Phoenix. I seems like a bedroom community for the Phoenix metro area. The town of Cave Creek does have a old west flair to it with Frontier Town and all the shops. Cave Creek was established as a gold mining town and stopping point for the U.S. Cavalry in the mid 1870’s. Another little tourist town but it still fun to visit. Problem is Candy always finds new friends along the way.

2018 Winter

Mar 5, 2018 - Monday, Phoenix AZ

We drove a little northwest of Phoenix today to the city of Wickenburg AZ. It is about an hour drive but it is thru the desert of Arizona. A German named Henry Wickenburg was one of the first prospectors. His efforts were rewarded with the discovery of the Vulture Mine, from which more than $30 million worth of gold has been dug. At present time only about 7,000 people live in Wickenburg. Wickenburg has a lot of tourist stores but the main trip was to visit the Desert Caballeros Western Museum. There is a lot of art paintings from the...

2018 Winter

Mar 3, 2018 - Saturday, Phoenix AZ

I have been lax on the updated because on Tuesday I needed to take Candy to the local hospital. She developed a numbness on the left side of her mouth and her speech was slurred. We got to the ER and they rushed her in because they thought that she was having a stroke. Thank God she wasn’t but they wanted to run test to find out what was causing this issue, which was a good idea. She was moved from ER to the ICU unit so the tests could be performed and they could watch her closely. They done a MRI of her brain and found a small bleed in the...
