Dec 31, 2015 - One Year On The Road!

December 27th marked one year on the road! It doesn't seem possible, but here we are. We arrived in Mesa, AZ on November 1st, and have hunkered down here for the winter. Although it has been chilly here in the mornings for the past couple weeks, overall the weather has been beautiful- mostly cloudless blue skies and afternoon temperatures ranging from mid 60's to upper 70's. With the crazy weather the rest of the country has been having we are very thankful that we ended up where we are! We plan on staying here for the next month or so,...

Dec 1, 2015 - Last haul MS

/// Cocopah RV Resort Yuma, AZ Tuesday - December 1, 2015 // After several hectic days of downsizing, packing, etc., we are finally heading to Mesa to complete the trade of our DRV Mobile Suites 5th wheel trailer. Nancy did most of the heaving lifting, organizing an packing. I had to work last Sunday and Monday and had little time to help. We departed Yuma shortly after 8:00 am for the four trip to Mesa. We had great weather for the trip and the road conditions were good. I did notice that the rig was much lighter towing. We arrived at the...

Dec 1, 2015 - Taliesin West

Spent the day at Taliesin West... Frank Lloyd Wright's design school. In general, Patti is much more of a FLW fan than I am. She found it very nice and interesting. I'll tell you a couple of things that, in my opinion, say a lot about the man. 1) He tried everything he could think of to get the power lines that were in view to be taken down... ultimately, the AZ governor denied his demand. 2) Wright was 5ft 8in. He thought that was the ideal height. I bumped my head several times on the ceilings. 3) He thought he could fully control his...

Oct 16, 2015 - Going Home

Day 111 (Wednesday, October 7th): Shelburne, NH to Westhampton, MA—214 miles We departed Shelburne, NH at 8:25 am with overcast skies and a cool 48 degree temperature. We were going 214 miles to Westhampton, MA where we would spend the night; though our ultimate destination was Mesa, AZ—we were going home: 2948 miles with nine overnight stops. The route was west on US 2, then southwest on state highways until we reached I-91 south. Our route will be on Interstate Freeways from this point until we reach Holbrook AZ (we try to avoid freeways...

Oct 12, 2015 - Theranos - Shaking up the Status Quo

October is open enrollment month for us for our medical plan. We are happy to learn that our premium will only increase ten percent this year. However, we have a high-deductable, catastrophic plan so that means that while routine physical exams are covered, routine lab testing is not. In the past, we had used an online testing center that provided lab orders for any number of tests. This online service called Health Testing Center was far cheaper than having the tests done through our medical plan. This year we have an additional option...

Oct 10, 2015 - It’s hot, it’s cold…now it’s hot

We left the warm, 85 degree temperatures of Page at 4,200’ elevation for the cool, 65 degree temperatures of Flagstaff at 7,000’. For me, the cool temperatures were about the only thing I enjoyed about the city. Somehow, nothing went right when we were there. The concert we attended, which was billed as chamber music, turned out to be a kaleidoscope of different kinds of music which we did not enjoy. The Oktoberfest and its music were geared primarily for the college students. Then there was the play we attended called Good People. The...

Oct 5, 2015 - Back in Mesa, Arizona

We left Amarillo on Friday, October 2. We made stops overnight in Santa Rosa, NM and Holbrook, AZ before pulling into Valle Del Oro RV Resort about 11:00 am this morning. Between Heber, AZ and Payson, AZ we ran into some fairly heavy rain, and thick clouds in the mountains. But, it created some beautiful "kodak moments" after the downpour. We will stay here until about the 1st of April. See y'all down the road! "Not all those who wander are lost." (JRR Tolkien, in The Lord of the Rings)

Where RV Now?

Jun 6, 2015 - Mesa, Arizona

The day we arrived in Mesa there was record setting rain - as it had never rained here on this day since records have been kept. The weather was also cooler than normal for this time of year. Just as well because it was still hot. We spent two wonderful nights in Jan's lovely home (Greg's mother). We dined at Red Lobster one night and while it sounds quite corny it was actually very nice. We visited the beautiful Desert Botanical Gardens, home to a very fine collection of arid plants from deserts of the world in a unique outdoor setting....

Apr 5, 2015 - Getting Ready to Hit the Road

Our time is coming to a close here at Valle Del Oro in Mesa for the season. We plan to be back around October 1, 2015. Since our last post, the park has had several parties including Mardi Gras, St Patrick's Day, Annual Pool Party; a number of concerts/shows including Bill Medley of the Kingston Trio, Roots and Boots (Sammy Kershaw, Aaron Tippin, Joe Diffee), and Jay Leno. We made our annual visit to Organ Stop Pizza, home of the world famous Wurlitzer 6000 pipes organ. Neat music and fairly good pizza. We also tripped on over to the...

Where RV Now?

Mar 21, 2015 - Mesa Regal Artisans and Quilt Displays

I was impressed by the variety of clubs and classes that were offered in the park. I enjoyed looking at the scrapbooking samples, the beautiful woodwork bowls and scrollwork. The next time I have an opportunity to try some of these activities, I hope to take advantage of them. I have told a lot of people the "next time I come, I am not working!"
