Jun 16, 2020 - 2020 Summer trip

The travel portion of our summer trip year is short: June 17 to July 12--25 day. We had planned a longer trip, starting June 2nd but Maryann broke her elbow and had 6 weeks of therapy; plus many of the places and activities were closed due to Covid19. We also had to cancel an April trip to see Maryann's brother in Texas. So--we leaving June 17th which means we've endured an extended period of very hot weather: 105 to 112 degrees. Our revised trip plan has stops in St Johns, AZ; Durango, Ouray, Montrose and Delores in Colorado; and an...

2020 Short Summer

Mar 2, 2020 - Arizona

We are more than halfway through our stay here in Mesa and have settled in nicely and enjoying all the activities and the sunshine. This is a smaller park than we are used to but it seems to be a good fit for us. Our park model, while not fancy, is comfortable and a little more roomy than our motorhome. We appreciate the fact that if anything goes wrong, it is not our problem. The last year with our motorhome we were on edge as to what was going to go wrong next. Of course, it was 17 years old and well used, so things were bound to go...

New Adventures

Jan 31, 2020 - January update

The days fly by in Venture Out. It is easy to slip into a happy routine. I am usually up early to read for a while, then my buddy Mary and I walk a couple of miles around the park. One loop hugging the streets by the perimeter is around 2 miles or 5000 steps on the Fitbit. Even when there is a temperature drop, the pool is heated and I am in it for water aerobics. Rog usually works out in the gym; he is also playing in the "out of park league" for shuffleboard. We both show up to shuffle on Fridays on the "in park league." After all my...

Dec 16, 2019 - We Have Wheels Again!

When we came home from Cancun and I finally sent out the last blog I didn’t think I would have any news to report. Afterall, who wants to hear about grocery shopping, putting up pictures, buying new linens? I wouldn’t! Let’s jump ahead a few days after that last blog and I’m looking at Facebook Marketplace and I see that Rick has been looking at campers again! I thought we had dropped the idea of going down that road! I expressed my surprise and he said ‘well, we can’t put wheels under the apartment and I think we both want to be able to do...

Dec 15, 2019 - Happy holidays from Arizona

It is December in Arizona and the weather is lovely. We have highs in the high sixties, low seventies each day; we did have a couple of thunderstorms, but those days are the exceptions. I like to walk in the morning around sunrise which is around 7:15 these days. The perimeter of the park is a little over 2 miles; great way to start the day. Most days I hit the pool from 9 until 11 for water aerobics, great exercise and easy on the joint replacements. We are trying to have at least once a week adventure days. It is easy to find lots to do...

Nov 29, 2019 - Winter in Mesa

From Atlanta we flew to Phoenix where we will be spending the winter. The day we arrived there had been some stormy weather; roads were closed because of water and there had been hail in the area. We have been here a week now and are settling in to our digs in Venture Out. We are trying to get moving after our cruising adventures; I usually spend the mornings in the pool. It is easy to get lulled into a routine in the bubble of the park, so we have decided to try to incorporate one day a week as "adventure day" to get out of the park and...

Oct 21, 2019 - In Mesa; next stop San Juan

We will be in Mesa a few days getting ready to fly to San Juan, Puerto Rico. We stayed in Mesa last winter and had a great time, so we are looking forward to another season of senior camp. I did not write about Mesa last year, so I am hoping to reflect on what we did as well as this year's adventures. The photos with this entry are from past trips, mostly from last year at Venture Out. Last year we made a lot of friends and wandered around on desert hikes. We are looking forward to this season to see what draws our interests after our South...

Oct 2, 2019 - Buenos Dias, Cancun!

I know, I know! It’s been 3 weeks since we returned from Cancun and I promised a blog about it when we returned but life always seems to interfere with my plans! The day of our return was August 31 which coincided with Michele’s move from her house to her high-rise apartment in downtown Phoenix. I still wonder how it is that a girl raised in the suburbs all her developing years became a happy urban dweller! It all started when she was in school in downtown Seattle. School was in the urban center and it only made sense to have an apartment...

Jul 27, 2019 - We Have Moved!

Since we have been in the apartment for just a hair over a month, I guess I should sit down and catch up on this blog. On the morning of June 22, we all met at Jeff’s house to wait for the movers to arrive. They were a little late due to an issue with their truck but finally showed up about an hour late. There were 3 movers and they made quick work of moving all the furniture and boxes onto the truck. Jeff and Michele made sure that Rick didn’t do any lifting. He was under doctor orders not to lift any more than 10 pounds! Then, we were off...

May 16, 2019 - Starting our 2018 Summer trrip

We leave home for the summer tomorrow. We're heading to the Pacific Northwest where we well visit family and friends. Then we'll head south down the Pacific Coast until we reach the southern border of Oregon where we'll turn inland. We'll spend a week in Cedar City Utah to see some Shakespeare. From there we'll continue south arriving in Munds Park AZ July 6th. We'll spend the remainder of the summer in the cool high country--returning home to Mesa on September 7th. We'll be leaving on a fall trip later in September; but that is the...

Apr 14, 2019 - Leaving Mesa for a Road Trip

Hello everyone! It has been a while since I last posted to this website. A new adventure is about to begin. We are leaving Mesa with plans to take a month long (almost) road trip without the RV. We are driving to Texas with stops in Amarillo, McKinney and Garland before heading east. Currently we hope to go to Kentucky to see the Ark Encounter. Next stop is Amarillo....

2019 Summer and Fall

Mar 31, 2019 - Last days in Arizona

Winter has turned to spring, we're enjoying the last of the orange blossom smell through the park and we are starting to pack up our little world here in Phoenix. We leave here Thursday and it’s been over a month since the last time we checked in with the blog. To spice things up before leaving, we went to a Polynesian luau, put on by the Royal Islanders. The owner Tia has a unit in our park and at their luau location they do catering and put on luaus for special occasions. Usually there are three hula dancers, one fire dancer and himself...
