Feb 20, 2019 - First two weeks of February

Well here's a quick update to our Val Vista Village winter holiday. The last couple of weeks has been very chilly for Arizona standards, average only 16-18 c day time with a very cold drop to 3-6 c overnight. We've even had a few nites of freezing, so needless to say we've stayed indoors for most of the time. We've had a few outings with friends, including another trip to the Organ Pizza Stop where we were entertained yet again to fabulous Organ Music. This time we enjoyed the company of our good friends from Kelowna, Lloyd and Linda Kenzle...

Feb 20, 2019 - Our Winter, golf, touring, golf, visitors, golf

In our last post, we had just returned from our Christmas holiday back in Ottawa… I know it may seem strange for us to say we went on a holiday, when we live in a camper and travel all the time, but it was nice to see the family so we took a holiday from our holiday. Now that we have been back a while, it’s time to get you all caught up again on our lifestyle: it didn’t take long for us to hit the pools and hot tubs, umbrella drinks in hand (Michelle with her MudSlides and Mike with his Margaritas); the usual routine was pedal our bikes...

Winter In Phoenix

Feb 3, 2019 - Up to February 1st in Mesa, Arizona.

Hope all is well with everyone and you're all enjoying the winter weather. Although it's warmer here in Arizona, have to admit the weather is a lot cooler than normal for this area. However, we'll rough thru it. Our Bocci Tournament was a fun successfull day with about 75 players entered. The pot luck luncheon was unbelievable along with so much fun and laughter with various Bocci Games. Looking forward to continuing our weekly Bocci Games while we're in Mesa and have plans to join the Coquitlam Lawn Bowling Club once we return home in the...

Jan 13, 2019 - New Years til mid January

Well, sorry for the delay in our updates but we've been crazy busy with various outings. We spent a quiet New Years Eve with a couple of neighbours in for a few drinks and appies to watch the Time Square Ball drop. A quiet time but as usual many laughs. I've been spending a fair amount of time working on my Class of '59 Elementary 60 yr Reunion. (slated for late spring/early summer) So far we've managed to located and confirm close to 1/2 our class. (Gr. 6 Class moving on from Elementary to Jr./Sr. High School.) Our group chat lines have...

Jan 9, 2019 - Christmas in the cold North, and back to the warmth and sun!

Now that we are back in Arizona for the rest of the winter, let’s go over what has happened in the past ‘almost’ 2 months since we last posted. Both of us continued our hobbies of painting and knitting. Michelle had been busy knitting socks for all the little kids for Christmas – even on the plane as we headed home for the holidays, right to the last minute to get them all done. Michelle had also made some teddy bears for the kids (big and small) from both our mom’s mink coats, a project she worked on all summer back in Ottawa before we...

Winter In Phoenix

Jan 1, 2019 - Usery Mountain Regional Park (12/21 - 12/25/18)

We have stayed in Mesa twice before, but were unable to get into Usery. This time we were lucky to get a site for 5 days!! This is an absolutely beautiful desert park. The sites are far enough apart to feel like you have your own space. There is a trail from the back of our site to the bathhouse. The first afternoon I found a nice trail that went to the visitor center and took it. It was about a mile each way and was a wonderful walk through the desert. That evening we went to Fort McDowell Casino. Tim and Joanne got into a poker tournament...

Dec 30, 2018 - Christmas week at Ranchos Val Vista Resort

Here we are ending another week in Ranchos Val Vista Resort. Another fun week with new friends to celebrate the Christmas Season with. As much as we missed spending the holidays with our kids, it was a full fun time in Arizona. Christmas week started off with Joanne and I putting on a Christmas Breakfast for a few of our neighbours. A great time was had by all and everyone of course ate too much and enjoyed a few Bubblies and Special Coffees to end the meal. Weather wise we lucked out at about 24c / 77f which was perfect for cooking and...

Dec 24, 2018 - Our quiet week in Mesa

We've spent a relatively quiet week in Mesa, our daily Bocci games in the mornings with Bocci again on Thursday evening. Always a great time with usually 30-40 players each time out. We've entered the Val Vista Fun Bocci Tournament with a couple from Ontario, it will be a full day of Bocci Games, Food, Visiting and no doubt the 'odd beverage' throughout the day of Jan. 17th. We also took in the Val Vista Sales dept. open house. Lots of various size homes for sale and although we gave it a great deal of thought...it's not really for us, as...

Dec 15, 2018 - Week ending Dec. 13th at Val Vista Resort

We started our week with another Hiking Club trip this time to Lost Dog Trail in Scottsdale, Arizona. The trail was considerably rough compared to last week but the views were amazing. Once we reached the summit, the view was indescribable overlooking the Scottsdale Valley. The next day we had dinner out with friends from across the street from us where they chose the Murphy's Law Irish Pub in Chandler, Arizona. OMG the most amazing Fish and Chips we've ever had in such a unique Irish Pub. The walls were decorated with $1.00 bills from...

Dec 9, 2018 - Another week at Val Vista Resort

Another great week at Val Vista Resort. Completed our Christmas Decorations for our contribution to the Ranchos area lights display. There are so many beautiful displays but we managed to do our part. We had our first Hiking Trip with the Tuesday Hiking Club out to an area called Wild Horse Pass Trail, unbelievable experience. So thankful we decided to join the group. The hike was approximate 5 miles round trip with a slight incline but the views were amazing and yes we did see two different packs of wild horse. Spectacular is the only way...

Dec 1, 2018 - Another Great Week in Val Vista Village

We've had another great week in Mesa, Arizona. Starting off with Bocci games most mornings ( we've also entered a Bocci Fun Tournament for mid January with friends Maureen and Robert Morrow from Ontario)...our mornings followed by an hour or so at the pool taking in the fabulous sun rays. This week also found us going out for dinner with our neighbours, Dick and Shirley Davies who have taken us under their wing (so to speak) showing us around the City of Mesa along with pointing out the great spots around town to visit. Another visit to the...

Nov 26, 2018 - It's winter back home

Lets just start by saying, for our family and friends back home, we feel for you all. The snow, the cold and the freezing rain... then again, that is why we chose to spend the winters here down south, to miss all that. And just so you don't get jealous, we've had a few cool nights where we've had to put on the heaters in the morning until the sun warmed things up. But of course, hours later we would then have to open the windows to cool the bus down. There is also the wind that we've had to deal with, not anything as bad as we had back...
