Apr 17, 2014 - Maricopa, Arizona

We are in Maricopa, Arizona for a couple of days. We dropped Betty off at the airport in Phoenix and drove about 45 miles to Maricopa. We will be doing a bit of exploring tomorrow after resting for the night. The hotel grounds are absolutely beautiful. They have a huge eagle placed on top of a saguaro cactus that is awesome. The pool area is also outstanding, it looks like a tropical paradise with beautiful flowers blooming, they even have orchids in the lobby. Maricopa is one of the oldest and most historic communities in the state of...

Mar 4, 2014 - A Trip to Maricopa

Jane and Jim have friends who live in Joplin, Missouri who happened to be passing through Maricopa today. Jane asked me to go for a ride , meet their friends, have lunch and perhaps stop at Ak-Chin casino for an hour or so. Noreen and Fred are a friendly couple who made me feel very welcome to the group. Most of the restaurants we saw in town were of the fast food variety so we opted for the buffet at the casino since our recent experience at casino buffets in Scottsdale had been a positive one. After lunch I gave Jim and Jane a chance to...

Oct 25, 2012 - John Wayne RV Park Maricopa, AZ

Monday-10-25-12, John Wayne RV Park Maricopa, AZ We liked this campground, it is located 17 miles from Maricopa and 20 miles from Casa Grande. Both of these towns have a Wal-Mart and plenty of restaurants. Not much to do at this park--it is in a desert setting. Our one interesting experience here was when one of the work campers found a rattlesnake under a rock in the RV park. Needless to say, we didn't walk the Girls around the park after that. The temperatures are in the low 80's during the day and 50's at night so we decided to just do...

Jul 21, 2012 - Fishing Day in Arizona

We left Tita Rhea's house early morning. Today we're heading to Arizona. I slept for 5 hours straight. That's my record. The longest i've ever slept in the car. It's coz i set myself up with a tent in the back row of the car. My feet wasn't comfortable though. There was security on the gate of the town so Lolo Oscar had to come get us. He drove us around the back. There was a lake behind his house so we wanted to go fishing. Nana said that we had to wait coz it was too hot. Then there was a wind storm. It wasnt raining but it was super...

Mar 20, 2012 - New Electric Heater Dies and Plans

Maricopa, AZ 38 deg. clear, no wind. Forecast = Clear. High of 61F. Winds from the West at 5 to 10 mph shifting to the NNE in the afternoon. I don't know if you remember or not, but back on the 2nd of March, Jim went to Home Depot and bought an electric space heater to replace the old one that had died. Well, now the new one died!!! : ( Sunday evening, we had a power outage here at the park. It didn't last long, but when the power came back on, the little red light on the heater didn't come back on, and in fact, nothing on the heater would...

It didn't rain all day, but the wind did blow pretty much of the day. : ( The rain was very spotty and it never did rain very hard. Both Jim and Linda decided that an early start to...

Dec 14, 2011 - OTRA – AZ - Maricopa

12/14/11 Oh my, what IS that bright thing in the sky? The sun? You say it’s the sun? My goodness, we’ve not seen it for so long, I’d forgotten what it looked like! But it surely is nice and today was a lovely day to drive from Deming, New Mexico to Maricopa, Arizona. And here come the mountains. Oh, they are so beautiful. I think that’s my favorite part of the west...the mountains...and I’ve not even seen the Rockies yet! We picked up our forwarded mail before we left the campground and the between-the-wheel chocks I ordered from Camping...

Apr 2, 2010 - Day 21 - The Last Day of the Babes and Balls Rally

Today (Friday...I'm behind myself) was a fun day. We began with Shelle and Murray's (forum members) Breakfast in a Bag. I want to do this with the kids when I get home. You put one, two or three eggs in a zip lock bag, add all the ingredients you want, squish it all together and then drop the bag into boiling water for 16 minutes. Voila! A perfect omelet! Everyone brought ingredients and we had a wondrous selection for our custom breakfast. After our meal settled, most joined in the Babeballathon Olympics! It was tremendously strenuous (if...

Apr 1, 2010 - Day 20 - April Fools - no way!

Diana, you're going to love what you did on April Fools Day! (See Diana's message in the Guestbook.) We drove about 45 miles to the Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Farm and boy, did we have fun! We fed the ostriches, the sweet burros, the little deer and the lorikeets! And that was an experience! I love taking pictures of flowers, but animals are even more fun! Hope y'all don't mind, 'cause it was too hard to just pick one or two! After the excitement with the animals...we rode in a MONSTER TRUCK! Over big heaves in the desert which made us fly...

Mar 29, 2010 - Day 17 - Spring Training with a Jacuzzi

I had looked forward to this day for several months. I saw Ken and Daniela Jacuzzi at Ken and my 50th high school reunion. We talked about my trip and decided it'd be great fun to get together while I was in Arizona. Ken made all the arrangements and we met at the Phoenix Stadium today to watch the A's play the Mariners. I had to leave after the 7th inning to get back to the rally and saying goodbye to them was hard for me. I think all my goodbyes on this trip are going to be difficult because they probably are truly goodbyes. When will I...
