Oct 18, 2018 - Apache Junction, AZ “Lost Dutchman State Park”

On October 18, we drove from Distant Drums RV Resort, to the Lost Dutchman State Park In Apache Junction AZ. The weather was great for the drive and we arrived at the park in the early afternoon. Our site was a paved back in, with 50 amp electric service and water hook up. (no sewer hook up here, but there was a large dump station just up the road from where we stayed. .. Within the park there were several hiking and biking trails of various degrees of difficulty. Bentley enjoyed watching all the birds flying and running around, including a...

Oct 16, 2018 - Lost Dutchman State Park & Apache Junction

Our last stop before heading north to home. Spent almost a week here at Lost Dutchman State Park. Full services, spacious sites and beautiful area. Good hiking. If there's one drawback, its that the bathroom/shower buildings are in the main loop and far from the RV loop - There was lots of room for R2 - you'll see him in the picture sitting on his red table. Met Bentley and his people pets Deb and Tom - great neighbors and enjoyed a night out at the local beer/pizza/bull-riding establishment - great fun!! Our view was toward Superstition...

Jan 21, 2016 - more socializing

The route from Tucson to the RV show in Quartzite takes us through Phoenix and we stopped by to see our old friend Carole who traveled to Africa with us a few months ago. After many years of working together and traveling the world with our students, we spent many years apart. But some relationships are easy to pick up where they left off. Carole lives just south of the Superstition Mountains and another one of our favorite camping spots is Lost Dutchman State Park on the western side of those mountains. During our last visit with Carole...

Mar 10, 2014 - the big move

We finally took the long 95 mile drive north from Tucson to new territory and are camped in one of our favorite state parks just east of Phoenix. When we booked in January the park was already almost full and we will have to move mid week from a site with services to one with nothing. It's spring break for some folks and spring training brings lots of tourists as well. When we were here last year the sunsets were awesome, but now the spring flowers add another dimension to the beauty. Apache Junction, the nearest town, has more campgrounds...

Mar 17, 2013 - Lost Dutchman SP, AZ

Sun, 17 Mar: Happy St. Patrick Day to all! Today we "rolled wheels". After sitting still for a bit longer than a week the "hitch itch" got to us so off we went. This vagabond lifestyle is really contagious. Anyway, Bob took off early in the day for a swap meet in Scottsdale. With he and Carpe Dinkum (our Ford Focus tow car) gone, Sandi got Carpe Diem (motorhome) ready for the road. Without two of us cross checking one another she went through the checklist multiple times. She must have done it right as there were no electric cords, water...

Feb 25, 2013 - Lost Dutchman State Park - Apache Junction, AZ

Without Internet access it's been awhile since our last update but we are back online and here we go with the latest. We left Tucson Sunday the 17th staying overnight in Mesa at Mesa Spirit RV Park before going into Lost Dutchman State Park on Monday the 18th. WOW...just WOW!!! What a great site (#27) we had for the most spectacular place we have visited so far. Beautiful!! Waking up to snow one morning only added to the beauty. Excuse us for all the photos, some that seem like doubles, but we just wanted to share what we...

Nov 28, 2011 - Lost Dutchman State Park

We hope that you all had a great Thanksgiving. We joined other RVers at our campground in Tucson for a potluck dinner. The food was delicious and, being a dessert lover, I particularly enjoyed the pecan pie and pumpkin cheesecake. After a week in this area, we have moved further north to Lost Dutchman State Park just outside of Apache Junction. The park seems miles from anywhere but when you are on the hiking trails, you can see the sprawl of the cities in the valley. You can even see downtown Phoenix which is only 40 miles away. We made...
