Jan 24, 2015 - Rodeo and Friends in Havasu

Horses and bulls and fun, oh my! Today was rodeo day in Lake Havasu and I got to attend the event with my forum friends, Bonnie and Gene. It was a wonderful small country rodeo, no big name cowboys, but lots of fun and excitement. We worried about the wind, but it was to our back, not severe, and the temps climbed to the upper 70's. The weather could not have been kinder to us. That evening, Bonnie and Gene, and Sally and Mike and I all went to Theresa and Dave's house for a gourmet meal as you will see in the photos. Apple dumpling was...

Jan 23, 2015 - January 22-23 Lake Havasu and the London Bridge

I arrived in Lake Havasu City yesterday afternoon and spent the afternoon setting up and then wandering the beautiful state park I am staying in. Lake Havasu is not very wide, but is 21 miles long and created, of course, by the Colorado River. I was so surprised that the town is as big as it is...I was expecting tiny and a gated community. (Yeah, what turnip truck did I get off of?) There was an In and Out burger stop in town and I had to pick one up for dinner. Today was a super fun day. Three couples and I met for lunch downtown and...

Jan 21, 2015 - Lake havasu

It was 72 today but really windy so it felt a little cooler. We started out the day going to Walmart getting what we forgot the last time. We then took the short drive to lake havasu. We phoned ahead to Parker but no rooms so we got one in lake havasu but it wasn't ready yet so we drove down to the parker dam. Beautiful scenery again. When we got back to havasu I was allowed to go to a quilt store so I was happy. We then walked around the London Bridge area. We got to our room and just spent some time sitting on our balcony, that overlooks...

Jan 18, 2015 - Early morning ascention

Sunday...up and on our way to Channel by 7:15 am. We actually had to wait for 30 minutes for anything to start lifting off the ground. A single balloon lifted the American Flag and the air show was on. As we walked around the area, balloons were lifting off from every direction. As they moved toward the London Bridge and Channel, so did we. We were treated with a delightful show of splash down.... touch down and lift off, leaving a trail of water dripping off the bottom of the baskets. The purple one cruised around and lifted off right in...

Jan 17, 2015 - Running around Lake Havasu City

My plan was an early rise Saturday morning, but my body was enjoying the wonderful rest in the Lavender Room. Tomorrow we will get up early. After a wonderful bowl of Louise's special oatmeal with chopped apple and raisins, we took off toward the Lake down Industrial Blvd. The sky was filled with balloons. I counted 30 at one time, although my camera couldn't catch that many at one time. As we got close to the Lake, we noticed a colorful balloon setting down in front of a store. We pulled off to watch as it loaded people into the basket....

Jan 16, 2015 - Balloon Fest in Lake Havasu City, AZ

Friday, Lake Havasu Balloon events I drove to Lake Havasu City, AZ to see the 5th Annual Balloon Fest and visit with Louise who I met last year during my first winter away from Wyoming. After a gracious welcome and cool beverage, we headed down to the balloon field on the island over the London Bridge. We got parked close to the field and walked in to see balloons filling up for the after dark “Glow”. The Fantasy Shapes were delightful. We walked past the all the vendors checking out their wares and noting what food looked appetizing. ...

Dec 12, 2014 - Lake Havasu, Vegas, Back to California

It was windy all night at Morongo. The parking lot really filled up during the evening. We filled up with fuel at $3.47/gallon. We left I-10 on the 26th and went up Hwy 177 to Hwy 62, over to Parker and up Hwy 95 to Lake Havasu City. We arrived just after 1:00 (2:00 AZ time). We've stayed at Havasu Falls RV before and know it will be a great place to have Thanksgiving dinner. The weather is lovely. We went out and found our friends Doug and Linda from White Rock at Islander RV. We went with them for $1 tacos for dinner. Excellent! This was...

Nov 24, 2014 - Lake Havasu City, NV

O'nite at Lake Havasu City Elks Lodge Whenever practical, it’s always fun to sneak over to the old Route 66 for a little historical interlude. I had been on a couple portions of Route 66 in previous travels, so opted to jump over to a different section as it ran parallel to Hwy 40 east of Barstow, California. The first couple of miles were great, cruising along at 40-50 mph. Then…….and just a note here………should you ever reach a section of Route 66 that is represented as a thin black line on your map, as opposed to a wider red line, and...

Oct 13, 2014 - Our Last Stop

A one night stand in Lake Havasu, AZ – another beautiful lake on the Colorado River, this one made by Parker Dam. We made a trip over here when we lived in Rancho Cucamonga over Memorial Day weekend, not knowing that that was a huge weekend for college kids to celebrate the end of the school year. But I had gone online to get a motel room (this was pre-RV days) and found one for about $35 so couldn’t pass it up. When we got to the motel, they told me that was an error on the computer and was only up there for about 5 minutes before they...

Sep 6, 2014 - So You Think Florida's Hot!

When we arrived in Lake Havasu City, AZ on Thursday afternoon I stepped out of the motorhome and felt like I had just entered hell! It was 109 degrees and the sun was blazing hot! I knew it would be hot here but WOW! I’ll take a little humidity anytime over this dry, searing heat. Thank God the RV Park has a pool which we’ve made good use of! Anyway, I’ve wanted to visit LHC for a long time. I first heard of it back in the 1960s when I read that a fellow had bought the London Bridge and was moving it to Arizona. What? Then when we were...

Apr 2, 2014 - Home Improvements!

The fixed accordion shower curtain and the molded shelving in the middle of shower stall left me feeling crowded. I removed the fixed shower curtain, put in a tension rod and clear shower curtain. Now when I bump into the shower curtain, it moves instead of bumping me back. More room, anyway it feels like it.

Mar 25, 2014 - Lake Havasu, London Bridge, fish n' chips, Bikini's

March 25 We drove down to Lake Havasu, to MM174 to boondock on BLM land. There are quite a few areas here to park for FREE... $0.00 March 26 We walked over the London Bridge, yes, the real one.
