Aug 22, 2016 - Canyon Lake, AZ - Living On the Edge for a Couple Weeks

(Ron Writing) After 12 days at this wonderful campsite it’s about time to move on down the road to the next adventure. We haven’t been updating the blog every day because we’ve just been “camping”. Just enjoying the serenity and beauty of this exceptional place. Except for a few walks we have been spending our time in our campsite. We’ve had a campfire almost every day and usually do some cooking over the fire. Before we came up here we purchased a new Lodge Combo Cooker. It’s a 10” cast iron skillet and a 3.2 qt. Dutch oven. The bottom...

Aug 13, 2016 - Canyon Lake, AZ - Enjoying Some Time In The High Country

(Ron Writing) We’ve been pretty busy the past few days. On Monday, Aug. 8, we left North Ranch and drove to the valley for my blood test appointment at Mayo Arrowhead in Glendale, AZ. After the test we took care of some business, did some shopping and had an early dinner at Abuelo’s, one of our favorite Mexican restaurants. After dinner we went to the RV park at WestWorld in Scottsdale. It’s real basic “parking lot camping” with electric and water hookups ($28.48/night). Tuesday morning was pretty exciting. We were at home when we looked...

Aug 11, 2015 - Woods Canyon Lake, AZ - Wrapping-Up our "Vacation"

(Ron Writing) Our “vacation from the valley” is coming to a close. Tomorrow morning we plan to head back to Scottsdale for my monthly blood test. On Friday I have an appointment with my doctor. We will miss this place. We’ve really been enjoying the perfect weather, the beauty of the forest, and the peace and quiet. Every day we have a variety of birds, rabbits, squirrels and other creatures I haven’t been able to get a photo of, visiting our campsite area. The weekends are very busy around here with every campsite taken, but during the...

Aug 3, 2015 - Woods Canyon Lake, AZ - Escape from the Valley Heat

(Ron Writing) Last week Thursday we left WestWorld and drove northeast about 115 miles and up in elevation about 1 ¼ miles. We are boondocking at 7,750’ on the Mogollon Rim northeast of Payson, AZ. It’s a whole world away from the heat of the valley! Since we arrived the temperature has been in the high 60’s or low 70’s during the day and it gets down to about 50° at night. Just about perfect. We’re on National Forest land in an area where there are designated sites but the only amenity is a fire ring. The sites are very large and widely...
