Sep 25, 2017 - Heber AZ – Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest – Canyon Point Campground

Stopped off at Canyon Point for a couple of days before heading into Buckeye. Got another check engine light on the way here. Just what we needed. Will have to visit a local Chevy dealer when we get back. It's a bit on the chilly side up here in northern Arizona. We are at 7,000 feet, so I guess that's to be expected. Temps are in the upper 30's and low 40's at night. Good for sleeping, but not much else. I'm looking forward to the 90's in Buckeye. Wearing jeans and a jacket just isn't any fun.

May 31, 2017 - Heber AZ – Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest – Canyon Point Campground

After working 8 graduations at the Goodyear ballpark, we headed north to the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. Time to start heading (slowly) for our fishing spots in the Dakotas. The campground is a great place. The weather was much cooler here than it was in Buckeye. The temperatures were hitting 100 or higher when we left, so it was definitely time to go. It was kind of rainy and a bit chilly in the forest. I even had to put the extra blanket on the bed while we were here.

Sep 17, 2016 - Heber AZ – Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest – Canyon Point Campground

Still too hot to go back to Buckeye, so we spent a couple of days in the forest between ShowLow AZ and Payson AZ. We stopped here on our way out this spring and liked the campground, so it was an easy choice to come back here. Unfortunately, there was a forest fire burning just down the road. It was caused by lightning and had been burning for several days when we arrived in the area. There was some smoke, but otherwise it was okay. The days were cool and the nights were cooler, so we weren’t complaining.

May 9, 2016 - Heber AZ – Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest - Canyon Point Campground

Started our trek north with a short (2 hour) drive up to the forest near Show Low AZ. It’s much cooler up there than it is in Buckeye and with temperatures threatening to top 100, we decided it was time to get out of town. We spent a couple of days here checking out government and private campgrounds in the area in case we want to spend time in this area in September. It’s still way too hot in Buckeye to spend much time there in September. On the other hand, we’re only 2 hours from home, so could go down and check on the house, etc. if we...

Mar 17, 2016 - Back to the Valley of the Sun and Beyond!

As planned, we said our goodbyes and left Lake Havasu behind on Tuesday, the 15th. It was about 200 miles to our destination – the Cummins Rocky Mountain dealership. I wanted to have the generator checked as it was making an unusual noise and we were to have a coach service done. That night we drove up to Sun City to have dinner and a visit with Dick and Phyllis. She has started her chemo and they have a long summer ahead. It was good to see them. Our unit went in on Wednesday morning as planned. We left and took care of a number of...

Sep 23, 2014 - Heber - Overgaard, AZ area

Well, we have been in this area for two weeks. The temperature up here is at least 20 degrees cooler in the day and night than down in the furnace of Mesa, AZ where we will move camp tomorrow. While camped here we drove around and took in some of the sights, tried nearly every restaurant in Heber - Overgaard, and well as one in Show Low and Alpine. We took several hikes with two of them 8.5 miles or longer. And, we managed to pick up over 60 geocaches(sort of a "high-tech treasure hunt" - go to www.geocaching.com for details) while here....

Sep 10, 2014 - Heber - Overgaard, Arizona

We are now camped in Heber, AZ which is located between Payson and Show Low. We plan to be here at least a week. The temperatures here are significantly cooler than in Mesa where we will be in about 3 weeks. Today's high is forecasted to be 81 degrees, and tonight's low is guessed to be 54. Contrast that with Mesa at 103/77.

Sep 18, 2013 - Heber, Arizona

The 211 mile trip from Gallup to Canyon Point was uneventful; we had good weather and the winds were favorable until we turned south at Holbrook. The traffic on I-40 was light compared with other times we’ve used that route. The wind from the southeast, which had been favorable along I-40, was opposing us as we traveled south to Heber on SR 377. It was favorable again as we turned west at Heber onto SR 260; Canyon Point is located 17 miles west of Heber. We arrived at Canyon Point about 12:30 pm but had to wait until about 2:00 pm until...

Jun 9, 2013 - Overgaard, AZ.

We are on the road heading to South Fork, Colorado. Today we plan to go as far as Santa Fe, New Mexico for a one night stop over. For the first month of our journey we will have 3 grandkids with us. Braxton 16, Jaxon 11 and Ava 7. This is Ava's first trip and long period of time away from Mom and Dad. We are bringing lots of patience and energy with us. The blog may seem a little 'kid' friendly for the 1st month as we want Mom and Dad and the family to keep us with us. They fly home from Minneapolis the 9th of July. After the kids head home...

Sep 4, 2012 - Overgaard, AZ.

We are home. We spent a week at the cabin in Overgaard and came home after the holiday weekend. It is still hot here and Monsoon storms are still around. 5700 Miles, 13 states and many fun and unforgettable hours with our grandsons and family along the way! Thanks for following along! P.S. Gophie is a seasoned traveler and is up for auction if you want to add to his passport. We plan to add more next summer. It will probably be in a different motorhome. Destination is undetermined .

Aug 27, 2011 - Overgaard, AZ.

We left Las Vegas at 5:00 am to avoid what was going to be their second hottest day of the year. We decided to drive all the way to our cabin in Overgaard, 320 some miles. This makes a complete round trip of around 10,000 miles. More details of the trip at a later date, favorite and not so favorite highlights and a tabulation to follow after a couple days of rest. The only event we had on our final day was a unfortunate rabbit that we didn't know about until we stopped. Overgaard is much cooler than home so we will be here for a while. It...

Aug 16, 2010 - Day 64

What a perfect way to end the trip. Temperature was in the 70's and overcast. We got to clean the front of the motor home (get all the bugs off) and do some other chores that needed to be done. Dale and Mable were here this morning to give us a hand and bring a long-handle brush to scrub some of the grime. They just left a short time ago and brought us fresh zucchini and squash from their garden and freshly canned home-grown green beans. Thank you Dale and Mable for everything - dinner, wine, veggies, fire tongs, etc., etc. We’re waiting...
