Mar 22, 2013 - Goodyear AZ - Phoenix Destiny RV Resort

Hi, everyone! Melissa scolded me the other day because I haven't updated our blog lately, so I thought I'd better get it done. Our time is getting short here in Arizona. We plan to leave April 1st and start wending our way back up north. Hopefully, the weather will be warm when we get up there. It's just starting to be consistently warm down here, so I'm sort of afraid to leave - I love sitting outside in the evening enjoying the night sky and great weather. Roger is raring to get started on our next adventure, though. I think he puts more...

Retired at Last!

Feb 26, 2013 - Goodyear AZ - Phoenix Destiny RV Resort

Roger was right when he said that when you're retired, you never get a day off. I swear it seems like we are always on the go. Today was the first day in a week that I got to sit outside and read my book - and that was only for an hour. Had to be at the clubhouse in time to get a seat for the chili dinner tonight (that means arrive a half an hour early.) I think we had more free time when we were working! Went to Laughlin Nevada for 3 days of gambling on February 12th. Wish I could say we won big - and I could say that, I guess - but that...

Feb 8, 2013 - Goodyear AZ - Phoenix Destiny RV Resort

Been awhile since I've sent an update so thought I'd better get it done. We made it through Arizona's record cold snap (one day, it was even warmer in Omaha than it was here!) We went from that into several days of record high temps. Now, we just rotate - 4 days in the 50's, 4 days in the 70's, etc. The good news is that if the sun is out and the wind is minimal, it's even warm on the days in the 50's. It sure beats the 20's! We are managing to keep busy. Elayne (Roger's sister) and Mark came over to visit one day while they were down here...

Retired at Last!

Jan 12, 2013 - Goodyear AZ - Phoenix Destiny RV Resort

Busy, Busy, Busy!!! Roger and I now have a social calendar to check before we commit to doing anything. Okay, the "social calendar" isn't all that crowded, but we are managing to stay busy. Found out the cook here at the rv park is very good. We went to the bean soup and sandwich dinner the other night and the soup was outstanding. (The sandwich was okay, too, but you can't screw up egg salad too much.) Breakfast by the women was good, too, and we've been told breakfast by the men is even better! That's next Saturday, so we'll see if that's...

Retired at Last!

Jan 2, 2013 - Goodyear AZ - Phoenix Destiny RV Resort

Arrived at our home for the next 3 months on December 30th. We're in Goodyear AZ now until some time in March. We're just a hop, skip and a jump from Michaela and Melissa over in Buckeye, so will have plenty of opportunity to spend time with them. We picked this RV park because of its proximity to Buckeye and because of the activities here at the park. The other campers are very friendly, too, which makes it fun when we go to a resort breakfast or dinner or some other function. We've met lots of Canadians and people from Minnesota and Iowa,...

Jun 17, 2012 - Visiting Erik in Goodyear, Arizona

Arrived in Goodyear, Arizona (southwest of Phoenix) around noon. Dropped off the trailer at the RV Resort that is filled in the winter with snowbirds but only 1/3 full now. Spent the rest of the day visiting with our son Erik. He is doing well and recently received a well deserved promotion at Conventry Health Care where he is a senior computer systems engineer. We had fun playing with his cat Chav and dog Niko. Went out to a Thai dinner to celebrate his birthday and Father's Day. Back at his home we enjoyed a hot evening swim. Felt good...

Apr 11, 2012 - Estrella Mountain Ranch (Tom & Lucy Harmon)

Today we drove over to the ‘foothills’area South of Phoenix and got together with Tom and Lucy Harmon. They have a very nice home in Goodyear, Az. (Estrella Mountain Ranch community). They treated us to an excellent lunch at the “Club House” that is part of the development they live in. I attached some pictures of the Club House, lake, golf course and Pool area (looks like it would be a great place to entertain grandkids.. Lucy was working on a project, so we didn’t get to spend a whole lot of time with them, but appreciate the great lunch...

Mar 31, 2012 - Goodyear, AZ

Happy St. Patrick's Day! We left the skydivers behind and headed to Goodyear, AZ on St. Patrick's Day. We stayed at Cotton Lane RV Park and preparation for the Good Sam Rally. Being that we arrived on St. Patrick's Day, we enjoyed "green beer" and the traditional meal of corned beef and cabbage. Ken and Connie were very good sports about all my hoopla about St. Patrick's Day, but it was tradition in our family to really celebrate as my mom was definitely Irish. While staying here, our friends, Mike & Linda Lyders, celebrated 50 years of...

Well after 1835 miles its time for racing. In the Valley of the sun and we do mean sun its stinking HOT. Must now decide between CANADIAN or American beer, choice was easy. Bit of a cluster getting our parking passes and tickets as there Will Call window wasn't open and had to return to main track office. Oh before i forget Craig Randi has a shock or two for...
