Jan 21, 2016 - Winter Road Trip

This is our first 'winter' trip in the motorhome. We are headed to Florida. Diana has a sister {Shirley} that lives outside of Tampa. She has had some serious health issues over the last six months. She is doing much better and this gave us an excuse to hit the road and check on her progress. We will include a visit with another sister {Mary} in San Antonio along the way. The plan is to travel for two months. We will be home the end of March. There are doctor appointments and taxes to take care of. Don't worry we plan to leave the heat and...

Jun 2, 2014 - Gilbert, Az

Our original plan was to be in Heber/Overgaard before Memorial Day weekend and head to Northern AZ from there. We were having some trouble with the steps on the motorhome. We took it in to get repaired. While it was at the dealer we had them look at the big slide. It wasn't locking in as tight as it should. The dealer said we needed a new clutch on the ram. So it was ordered and suppose to take 10 days. It took over 3 weeks to get the part. Meanwhile the temperature was going from 80 degrees to over 100. So instead of being in the cooler...

Feb 14, 2013 - Day 213 - around Gilbert/ Mesa, Arizona

We were on the road at 6:30 AM to make to Gilbert for the bus's 8:00 AM appointment with Tekris to get the charger/inverter checked. We dropped off the bus then went to The Good Egg for breakfast. Really good Eggs Benedict there. BAck to Tekris we find that they are not quite finished their testing but have found some issues, they will call us with an estimate in a little while. We headed up to Mesa to have a look at the area campgrounds to see if we should move up there or not. We decided to keep our Skyline site as Mesa is too busy....

We are aiming to leave around the 18th of May. The motorhome and car have new tires, batteries and have been serviced. Retirement parties are behind us. Oct 30, 2010 - Riparian Water Preserve

The convention is winding down now. I attended lots of sessions and learned a few things. I also volunteered in a couple of areas for multiple hours. The convention is well organized and the resort is set up well to provide lots of space for campers and buildings for meetings and banquets, and it provides lots of amenities like swimming, fitness room, jacuzzi, baseball, tennis, pickleball, and even golf! Anyway, today I had some time to go searching out some more letterboxes in the area, so I went to Gilbert. The historic areas of all...

Mar 16, 2010 - The Scalfs, Roosevelt Lake and Tonto National Monument

BACK IN GILBERT WITH GREAT FAMILY/FRIENDS: We are happy to be back at Bill and DeAnn's, where they've practically dedicated their guest room to us; we feel like we've "come home" again. We catch up a bit with them and recuperate on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday we have the plasant "duty" of watching DeAnn's twin grandsons--both fun and a little more stressful than I expected (since I don't feel all that experienced at this point). So DeAnn and I reward ourselves with late afternoon pedicures, manicures--and I get a haircut. Friday,...

Mar 9, 2010 - More Family Fun in El Cajon and Yuma

SANTA BARBARA TO SANTA MONICA: We enjoy driving down the Coastal Highway (Route 1) to Santa Monica, when we cut over on Highway 10 to reach brother Richard's and his wife Patti's home in El Cajon (about 20 miles East of San Diego) by late afternoon. VISITING IN EL CAJON: Richard finally has traded in his beloved 9-year old Pontiac Grand Prix (which still looked new but he couldn't deal with the key getting stuck in the ignition) for a white Honda Accord that seems to handle beautifully. Patti and Erin are dealing with the fact that their...

BUELLTON AND SOLVANG--FOR THE MEMORIES We are eager to visit our friends from church, Barbara and George LaPlante (who've retired to Santa Barbara). We detour only briefly for the Anderson's pea soup restaurant in Buellton (in honor of mom who eats their soup almost daily) and Solvang (to ensure we have post cards for Del and Laura who love that quaint Danish community. SANTA BARBARA: We have a terrific time visiting with the LaPlantes. Nothing beats great discussions with good friends! We enjoy a nice dinner at a local seafood haunt in the...

Mar 2, 2010 - Around Cayucos and Morro Bay

RAINY DAY CATCH UP AND DRIVING: Monday turns out to be rainy and foggy, so we catch up on our journal and a few other tasks in the morning, then drive over to Cayucos and walk the pier and a few blocks of the shops (picking up some post cards) during a break in the weather following a nice lunch at the Schooner's Wharf restaurant overlooking the Cayucos state beach (which has lots of fond surf-riding and family memories for me). Then we check out Morro Strand Beach, Morro State Park and the views from Montana de Oro State Park. Our family...

Feb 27, 2010 - Back to Phoenix, Porterville, then San Francisco

MORE FIX-UPS IN PHOENIX AREA AND FUN WITH COUSINS: We've had a great time and REALLY enjoyed our friends and the Tucson area. But we have to get some additional service done on the RV--this time at Freightliner so hurry back to move the RV there Thursday morning. Jim explains that he is concerned about the defroster not working, so is annoyed when he gets a late evening call (about 12:30 am Friday indicating only work on the air conditioner has been done). Only two more tries, one Friday and then finally Saturday after talking to the...
