Sep 29, 2018 - Fort McDowell, AZ

Sat, 29 Sep: We head "downhill"... Relocation day! We left the comparative cool of Cottonwood's 3,100' elevation for the Phoenix Valley, a descent of 2,000' plus. The difference is an additional 5-8 degrees of daytime temps and overnite lows in the 70s rather than the 60s. Our poor a/c and fridge will have their work cut out for them. We departed our site at Verde Valley Thousand Trails at 0840 and Sandi threaded us along the park's narrow and twisty roads to the main highway. As we'd observed driving in, AZ 260 is a construction zone and...

Sep 24, 2017 - Ft McDowell AZ

Sun, 24 Sep: Downhill into the heat... After a tad longer than a week enjoying the high elevation weather in Show Low, today we headed to the Valley of the Sun, and into the heat. It was 40°F when we awoke and by the time we got parked in Fort McDowell it was in the high eighties. We dropped from 7,000' elevation to 1,300'. We awoke to a chilly coach and enjoyed some extra "snuggle" time before braving the elements. It was too cold for the heat pump to function (they don't work very well below 45°F) so we relied on our electric...

Apr 2, 2017 - Fort McDowell AZ

Sun, 02 Apr: Another short jaunt... This morning was a lazy day. We had to relocate from RoVer's Roost to Fort McDowell in order to be close to the Mayo Clinic. Bob is scheduled for a procedure tomorrow (Mon) and having the house close to the clinic is a big, big plus. Our problem was that our bed just felt too good to leave... We finally got our act together sufficiently to get Carpe Diem out of our spot and connect Carpe Dinkum. Following settling our electric bill ($7.34 for eight days) and completing brake, lite, and other safety...

Aug 9, 2016 - Fort McDowell, AZ

Tue, 09 Aug: Downhill, most of the way! After almost a week "vegging" at the Verde Valley Thousand Trails it was time to "hit the road" again. We'd hoped that it'd be cooler at 3,000+ feet elevation, but it turns out that the difference is only a few degrees. So, down to the valley it is! Sandi rolled wheels out of our site at 0837 and maneuvered Carpe thru the RV park and out to Arizona 260. Traffic was fairly heavy, so it took a while for it to clear so we could make a left turn onto the highway. We don't accelerate that quickely so...

Feb 13, 2010 - Mesa-Ft McDowell

Eagle View RV Resort, Az

Jan 31, 2009 - Fort McDowell, AZ

On Friday, we drove from Green Valley, AZ to Fort McDowell, AZ. We’ve been looking forward to arriving in Phoenix (because it’s one of our favorite places and because the gluten-free restaurant options are plentiful). Our first stop was Picazzo’s where we had a great meal including the best-yet gluten-free pizza crust and a great gluten-free chocolate chip cookie and ice cream dessert. On Saturday morning, we went for a run (a bald eagle in an eye-level tree was the highlight) and lifted weights, but Krista said that it still wasn’t enough...
