Feb 13, 2016 - Flying Like a Bird!

We had a wonderful day this past Sunday. We went to Sky Dive Arizona. We had heard about it when we attended our first meet and greet at Rovers Roost. This is a Monday through Friday activity and it serves as a means to welcome newcomers to the park and for all sorts of announcements. When this activity was announced we decided that it was worth the time to check it out. And when I say “we” I mean Rick and I and our dear friends Barbara and Steve. Rick called to ask some questions and find out what was the best time and day to arrive. We...

Mar 3, 2015 - BOGO 2

In the cool, rainy morning we did laundry after I put a small roast in the crockpot. The sun cam out and the temperature reached mid/upper 70s. In spite of the highway noise, it was too nice to be inside, so I spent some time reading outdoors. The landscaping includes flowering bushes (yet to be identified), palm trees, and lots of citrus, especially limes. I’ve noticed that no one seems to harvest the fruit; it could be that the oranges are that really bitter variety. The gardener in me could not resist picking a lemon, baseball-sized. As...

Mar 2, 2015 - Back on the Road

At 10:00 as we departed the Phoenix International Raceway, it was cloudy, rainy, and about 52F. We drove east on I10, which is four to six lanes through some prosperous-looking neighborhoods of Phoenix. As I10 turns south, the land is wide, open, flat desert with scrub bushes and no tall trees and occasional rocky hills studded with saguaro. After only an hour and a half we arrived at Desert Valley RV Park in Eloy. The sites have weird hookups: water is on the wrong side; electric is at the back; sewer is at the back, out of reach of...

Leaving our friends behind, three rigs head off down Hwy 79 to Eloy, AZ. We stay at Desert Valley RV Park, where we have been staying for the last few years. We like this park because we can sit out and watch the skydivers at SkyDive Arizona. Each year we have been here there have been military from Europe here practicing. This year is no exception. There are troops from Denmark and some Dutchmen as well. We introduced Larry & Diane to our fascination of these skydivers. I don't think they think we are as weird anymore for liking this....

Jan 26, 2014 - Eloy, Az

Traveling from Kingman to Eloy, AZ we went via the new 303 Loop out and around Phoenix. When this is all completed it will be a great way around busy Phoenix. We stayed at Desert Valley RV Park in Eloy. This is our fourth visit to this park. We like it as we can watch skydivers from Skydive Arizona right from our RV windows or chairs outdoors. Weather was beautiful while staying here. Our friends Dean & Jodi Madison and Ray & Linda Webb were in Casa Grande at the same time and we spent a wonderful evening with them. Good friends and great...

Our idea for staying in Eloy, besides the fact that we like this park, was to watch skydiving, but to visit the Tucson area without staying in the congestion of the city. We were on the go many days to visit sites in and around Tucson. One day took us to Biosphere II. This was a facility opened to the public in 1990. This engineering marvel was created to better understand how natural environments create habitable conditions for human sustainability. It is a unique facility that can be used to understand the role of life on Earth (Biosphere...

Jan 29, 2013 - Journey to Arizona

Our journey began at 9AM 12/29/2012 when we departed Salem, Or with our first overnight at Rogue River, Or. Our friends, Dean and Jodi Madison graciously researched our travel itinerary from Salem by selecting a primary and secondary route, which we would have been a detour to the Oregon coast in the event of snow in the Siskiyous. Fortunately the weather cooperated and we had clear highways through the pass.

On Sunday morning, after getting the rigs washed we traveled to Phoenix where we parted with the Anderson's for the day. They needed to go to Apache Junction and get their rig worked on and we were headed for Eloy, AZ to Desert Valley RV Park. This is a park that we stayed in last year both coming and going to Texas and really enjoyed. This is near Sky Dive Arizona and so you can watch skydivers all day long. A couple of really great things happened for us on our way here. We have some friends we made in our Heartland Washington RV Chapter...

Mar 31, 2012 - Eloy, Az

Once again we traveled to Eloy, AZ and stayed at Desert Valley RV Resort. On our trip east we stayed here and received such a nice thank you from this park that we decided to come back and spend another few days. This park is near Sky Dive Arizona, one of the biggest sky diving areas of the world. While we were there, they were trying to break the world record for number of sky divers in formation at one time. The record is 230 and they were attempting 240 sky divers and 10 sky diving photographers. It was fascinating watching the staging...

Feb 2, 2012 - Eloy, Az

It was a long day yesterday or so it seemed. We changed time zones and we were on two lane roads for the first part of the trip. It was a great drive through the Lake Havasu area. We took AZ 95 which is for the most part a good road. The scenery is fantastic with interesting rock formations and arid plant life. Pulling the trailer made it hard to stop for pictures. We plan to come back to this area and spend sometime. There are several good state parks, but lots of RV's so getting a spot maybe hard. We did travel through Quartzsite where we...
