May 18, 2016 - A place for the Riglet

We have two purposes for visiting North Ranch RV Park in Congress, Arizona. First, it's an Escapee Rainbow Park and we get a really good deal there (free), and second, Congress is about 90 miles from Sedona, Arizona. We are leaving the riglet here while we go to Sedona to hang out with Jim's brothers and sisters-in-law for a reunion. We came back to the Riglet on May 25. We stayed another week at North Ranch, pretty much just taking it easy. Walking, riding bikes, visiting with some friends. We have never seen a Century tree cactus (agave)....

Mar 31, 2016 - Congress, AZ - Enjoying a Very Nice Winter

(Ron Writing) Here it is the end of March already and I’ve only made a single blog entry yet this year. I’ll try to pick up the pace a little the rest of the year. We’ve been having a very mild winter with lots of warm weather and very few days when it wasn’t nice enough to enjoy doing things outdoors. We are both doing well and enjoying all our usual winter activities and get-togethers with friends. My recent blood tests have shown that the multiple myeloma markers are starting to slowly rise again. My doctor advised adding a newly...

Feb 9, 2016 - Congress, AZ - A New Trip Journal for 2016

(Ron Writing) Here it is the second week of February and I still haven’t started the 2016 Trip Journal! Can you believe that in the first few years of our full-time RV life I was posting an entry almost every day. Don’t know how I found the time. I like to do that when we are traveling but now when we are staying parked at North Ranch in Congress, AZ for the winter it would just be pretty repetitious. It’s our winter life – get togethers with friends, doctor appointments, church activities, and RV park activities. I’ll just briefly cover a...

Dec 31, 2015 - Congress, AZ - Happy New Year

(Ron Writing) It’s hard to believe that another year is over. For us 2015 is ending much nicer than it started. Early this year I found out I had prostate cancer and that my multiple myeloma (MM) was coming out of remission. Starting treatment for MM was delayed until I completed a regimen of radiation treatments for prostate cancer. That kept us in Scottsdale most of the summer – not a great place to spend summer. But tests show that the prostate cancer treatment was very successful and I’m on a new med for MM that is very effectively...

Nov 27, 2015 - Congress, AZ - Updates from North Ranch

(Ron Writing) We had a very happy Thanksgiving and we hope all of our readers did also. Like last year, we had Thanksgiving dinner with friends at the North Ranch Activity Center. About 135 people attended the dinner. The turkey, gravy, and beverages were furnished and then each table of 10 people shared sides and desserts pot-luck fashion. The food was delicious, the company was fun, and we all went home with leftovers! Since arriving at North Ranch a few weeks ago we’ve kept very busy. Besides all the small maintenance and repair jobs,...

Oct 19, 2015 - Congress, AZ - Back at North Ranch

(Ron Writing) There hasn’t been a lot of news since the last update but here are a few of things that have been happening. Our second stay at the Mogollon Rim was not as pleasant as the first one. We got there just in time for a few days of stormy, windy, rainy weather. It was also very cool and other than a couple long walks during breaks in the weather we were kind of “cooped-up” in the trailer. We did have a great campsite. We were right on the edge of the rim with a nice view and great cell phone signal even though we were only a...

Jan 16, 2015 - Congress, AZ - Looking Forward to the New Year

(Ron Writing) It’s a new year and time to get our new 2015 Trip Journal started. Our year started out with a blast of cold weather. We had a few days where we hardly went outdoors - the Polar Vortex had a grip on us and much of the rest of the nation. There were a few days when it hardly got above freezing here and I had to take the water filters in and drain the hoses every night. On the week beginning January 5th we had appointments and meetings scheduled every day of the week somewhere in the Phoenix area. So we decided to just move...

Dec 31, 2014 - Congress, AZ - A Cold Snowy End to 2014

(Ron Writing) I’m really getting behind with blog entries. Once we stop traveling there is less to write about and few photos to show you. We enjoy our time here at Congress during the winter but it’s become our winter routine and there’s less that would interest blog readers. I’ll close out the 2014 Trip Journal with a few of the highlights of our time here during the last month of the year. On Thursday, December 4, we went to Phoenix to attend the monthly Multiple Myeloma support group meeting. This was our first meeting since leaving to...

Nov 29, 2014 - Congress, AZ - Catching Up

It seems like yesterday, but it’s actually been a couple weeks, since we got back to Arizona and since I last updated this journal. We’ve been very busy with appointments, events, or things to do almost every day. We’ve been catching up on our to-do lists. Here are a few highlights. During our travels this summer we started having a little problem with the A-frame of the trailer (the hitch that extends from the front of the trailer). It was bending slightly and a weld that attaches it to a cross member had cracked. A couple days after we...

Nov 17, 2014 - Congress, AZ - Back to "Winter Quarters"

(Ron Writing) Yesterday afternoon we drove from Barstow, CA to Kingman Arizona. We had pretty strong crosswinds along much of the drive and there was blowing sand in a few areas. We got to Kingman around 3:30 PM and stopped at Walmart to replenish the pantry. After dinner I checked the weather forecast and found it was predicting overnight temperatures in the 20’s. That’s a bit cold for our rig so we decided to move to a warmer location. We left about 8 PM and drove south to Wikieup, AZ, a very tiny town in a pretty remote area of western...

Apr 13, 2014 - Congress, AZ - Tribute to a Beloved Friend

(Elena Writing) Life throws us curve balls every now and then. It’s been a challenge to stay positive when you receive blowing news. We’ve had a rough week after learning about 4 (yes, 4!) deaths of my classmate’s brother-in-law who succumbed to a heart attack, a childhood friend who lost his wife to a massive stroke, a former neighbor in CA who lost his battle with cancer….that’s 3. This past Thursday we learned that our friend Jim, who had a stem cell transplant in September 2012 for multiple myeloma, was told by his doctor that his MM...

Mar 25, 2014 - Congress, AZ - Updates

(Ron Writing) I just noticed that we’ve not yet made even a single entry in this journal this month! Wow, where has the time gone. We are doing well and have really been enjoying ourselves this winter here at North Ranch. My what a difference a year makes. Last year at this time I was not at all healthy and was struggling with my induction therapy. Elena was all but overwhelmed taking care of me and most of the chores I would normally have been doing. Now we are both blessed with good health and are back into a more “new normal” routine...
