Dec 3, 2013 - Congress AZ - Celebrate Life!
(Elena Writing) A memorial service for our friend Elaine was held in CA today. We wish we could have been there but that was not meant to be due to Ron’s health. We will visit Bob on our next trip to CA. I remember when Elaine spoke highly about Bob, their daughter and son and their families. They were a close-knit family who called each other several times daily. Elaine was especially happy when her grandchildren called. Her daughter “JP” bonded with Elaine over Labor Day weekend to give her dad a chance to return to CA for a few days. It...Jump to full entry
Nov 29, 2013 - Congress AZ - Life is Precious
(Elena Writing) It is with great sadness when we learned today of the passing of our dear friend, Elaine. She had a donor stem cell transplant this past July for her Myleofibrosis. However, about two months ago she and Bob learned the unwelcome news that the transplant was unsuccessful. There was a spontaneous search for a new donor. The first donor was a young male, who was a perfect match, but he backed out. The second donor was a young female, who was indecisive but after about 10-14 days, decided to donate her cells but not until...Jump to full entry
Nov 28, 2013 - Congress AZ - Happy Thanksgiving Day!
(Elena Writing) Happy Thanksgiving! In all our married life, this was our first Thanksgiving dinner with only the two of us. In years past, we always celebrated Thanksgiving with family but now that Ron lost both sisters this year, it’s just us. Bittersweet filled the air but we made the best of everything. We are blessed for having each other. It was nice to cook a Thanksgiving dinner. I did some prep work yesterday and baked my cornbread for my stuffing and made a cranberry salad. I also made cranberry sauce and froze some of it. Today I...Jump to full entry
Nov 20, 2013 - Congress AZ - Happy Birthday, Ron!
(Elena Writing) Yesterday we went to Surprise for my weekly massage. That’s a real treat for me. I’ve gotten to know Tina, the massage therapist, since we both enjoy cooking and baking. We’ve exchanged quite a few tips and experiences. I was surprised to find Ron in the driver’s seat when I got done with my massage. The driving restriction since his pacemaker implant is now lifted and he was ready to resume driving. That made me so happy since I had been the sole driver since last January when he was diagnosed with MM. I welcomed the...Jump to full entry
Nov 18, 2013 - Congress AZ - BMT (Day +100)…Yay!
(Ron Writing) Today I reached the long awaited major milestone – 100 days post stem cell transplant! It’s been nearly 10 months since I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. I’d never heard of this disease before, so in those 10 months I’ve gone from learning what the disease is, to taking a series of treatments, to complete remission. It has been quite a year for us. At times the future seemed very uncertain, even bleak. Today I feel blessed to be feeling so much stronger and healthier than I was a few short months ago. I don’t know how I...Jump to full entry
Nov 11, 2013 - Congress AZ BMT (Day +93) - Friends of Music
(Ron Writing) Each month during the fall and winter seasons, there is a free live musical performance at the Wickenburg Community Center. This is sponsored by a civic organization called The Friends of Music. We’ve enjoyed many fine performances the past few years and yesterday’s was no exception. This is their 40th year of bringing great talent to town for admission-free performances. Quite an accomplishment for such a small town. The “International Tenors” performed a variety of musical styles from opera to pop. They made great use of...Jump to full entry
Nov 9, 2013 - Congress AZ - BMT (Day +91) - A Blessed Week!
(Ron Writing) We’ve had another very busy week and a day when we received the wonderful news that we all had been praying for. But, let me take things in order. On Tuesday Elena had a noon appointment with her chiropractor in Glendale so we left here mid-morning to get there in time to have some lunch and then get to the appointment. Since we had other appointments on the following two days we decided to stay in the area on Tuesday and Wednesday nights rather than make the long drive three days in a row. We had made arrangements to stay at...Jump to full entry
Nov 6, 2013 - PHX AZ - BMT (Day +88) Glorious News!
(Elena Writing) Just to give you a heads-up that Ron’s MM is in remission! Yes, you heard it right! Ron had planned to write an entry today but since we were so excited about the results after our visit with Dr. Mikhael, that we went out and celebrated God’s answer to our prayers….and I couldn’t wait to shout the great news to y'all! We’re currently spending couple nights at AZTH due to three appointments this week. We will leave AZTH tomorrow morning to attend the monthly MM support group meeting at the Wellness Community in downtown...Jump to full entry
Nov 3, 2013 - Congress AZ - BMT (Day +85)
(Ron Writing) About 3 weeks ago we purchased a reconditioned MacBook Pro from the Apple website. Our old MacBook is over 6 years old and Apple is no longer supporting that hardware with new operating systems. Since we’re about 3 major revisions out of date we decided to upgrade. What a great machine. This version of the computer no longer has a hard drive but rather has 512 GB of non-volatile RAM for its main data storage. This is over double the capacity that we were using on our old computer so it should be plenty of storage for our...Jump to full entry
Nov 3, 2013 - Concerts, groceries and hot dogs
Sunday: We went up the hill to church, it was so nice to be among our friends. After church we came home and did the usual – watched football, brought a few things in out of the MH, and took a nap. Later in the evening we went to the ice cream social at the club house. Monday: Ron had a Dr. appointment at 8:45. I wanted to have him checked over by our own Dr. after his fall. We had good news – all is well. The Dr. said to keep doing what ever it was we were doing as he has healed remarkably well. We are to see him in February for another...Jump to full entry
Oct 29, 2013 - The new bathroom
The new bathroom. What can I say? I love it. It isn't quite like I thought it would look but it has been growing on me. Couple little glitches but Rich (contractor) is fixing them as I find them. The bathroom is tiled with Travertine marble. The color is called Karina Wavy. The walls of the shower are tiled in 11 x 11 tiles and floor of the shower is done in 2 x 2 tiles. The design on the shower wall is with 4 x 4 tiles. The vanity area is done in 4 x 4 with designs done in 2 x 2 and 1 x 1 tiles. We bought the sink in Mexico last year. I...Jump to full entry
Oct 27, 2013 - Our First week at NR
This has been a week of unloading the MH, re-arranging things in the house and garage, and meeting and greeting old friends. Of course, within the first hour of arriving home, I was lifting a tote from under the bed in the MH and hurt my back. So I've spent a lot of time in my big chair with an ice pack. I went up the hill Friday for a therapeutic massage and it has helped a lot. So we are a bit slow getting the MH unloaded. They had a lot of rain here during the monsoon season so there are a lot of weeds in our lot. We finally got smart...Jump to full entry
