Feb 11, 2018 - Settled in and finding things to do

Lunch today down in Chandler with some friends from Chlliwack. We recently went for lunch with them in Algodones a few weeks ago. Wandered around the Mesa swap meet yesterday, Ed bought a jacket and some camera items that he later discovered wouldn't work on his camera, future stuff for a garage sale!! The Lost Dutchman rodeo is coming in a few weeks and we still have to get tickets for that on the 23rd. Bought tickets for two different dinner music shows, one here in Apache Junction and the other just down the road in Mesa. Still looking...

Mar 9, 2017 - Mar 9-10

Mar 9, 2017 Sorry I have not written much, it is now the 15th and I am trying to catch up. My last seminar was today on exercises for the hips and knees. This was at 8:00 again so I leave the rig by 7:20 to get there on time. Lucked out and caught a tram right away. Mike is sitting at the rig waiting for installation on the Safety Steer and also for the Tiffin tech to come by. After my seminar I attend a seminar on the Future of FMCA and then Mike and I meet up and go back to the vendors and then over to look at the new Tiffin’s. At 2 we...

Mar 5, 2017 - Chandler

Mar 5-8 2017 We are at the FMCA Rally here in Chandler. Sunday was parking day for us, and it did not take too long just a few hiccups. We came in by ourselves so we did not have to wait for anyone else to arrive. Monday Mar 6, I head off to the Post Office to get our mail and it has been sent to another Post Office Murphy’s Matthew’s and Allen’s arrived and it took them all day to get parked. Once they are here we went over and caught up on the news. Tuesday Mar 7 I monitor my first seminar on fire safety and when the exhibits opened we...

Mar 2, 2017 - Chandler AZ

Thu, 02 Mar: Carpe moves again... After more than five months in storage at our "home park" in Casa Grande, AZ today we started the engine and rolled our wheels. It felt good to hit the road again and we think the coach also enjoyed getting out. We moved the coach from our site to the propane fill station to top off our internal tank. Then a "K" turn in front of the clubhouse as the Cooperative Board, for some reason, elected to enact a rule forbidding us from leaving the easy way. So we had to do things the hard way. Today's drive was a...

Nov 9, 2016 - Chandler Arizona

I left Sedona today and made my way back to Phoenix. I got a hotel room in Chandler outside of the city to meet Sue and Bill Abbott for dinner. We met years ago in Boquete, Panama. Sue and Bill are full-time RVers and their rig was parked at the Chandler American Legion Post while they visited their family nearby. Note Bill's broken wrist from playing pickleball.

Feb 25, 2016 - Cousin Melanie

During my genealogy searches, I found a 4th cousin who was very helpful in linking a couple more generations to my tree. She lives in Mesa, so we decided to meet for lunch in Chandler. After a nice lunch in a touristy part of town, we all went to the Chandler Elks to visit longer. While Larry enjoyed chatting with a couple Elks and getting me another Lodge pin for my collection, Melanie and I gabbed about dead ancestors. Chandler is noted for its annual Ostrich Festival. Initially, agriculture was the primary business in Chandler, based on...

Mar 9, 2014 - Chandler Ostrich Festival

Chandler, Arizona Chamber of Commerce is holding its 26th annual Ostrich Festival. Chandler hosts this event to pay homage to the history of Ostrich Farmers in the early 1900's. Apparently, ostrich farms sprung up due the demand for feather boa's that were popular during those years. Then demand went south and so did the ostrich industry. Lots of fair food and rides, and several free shows. Three Dog Night was in concert for a little over an hour and played a lot of the old favorites. There was a bird show with an Andean condor, and a few...

Mar 2, 2013 - Dolly

Today we went for a drive along the Apache Trail thru Tonto National Forest. . Just before entering the park we found a great flea market where we bought a 19th century Spur and found out most old cowboys wore only one spur because they were expensive and beside they only needed one to get the job done. ( quick acceleration ) We also picked up a great beer sign for a friend. We then entered the park and drove along another narrow winding road over some of the most scenic territory you will ever see. This evening we went on a old steam boat...

Feb 18, 2013 - Day 217 - Chandler, Arizona

We started today with some shopping. Found some new shorts for me at Kohl's and Verna found some stuff for herself. After lunch we received a call from Rocky Mountain Cummins that said the bus would be done by 4:30 today. The problem turned out to be a warped manifold which was replaced, a faster, easier job than the gasket replacement apparently, so ready faster and cheaper than expected. Still a $1,100.00 bill but less than expected. We headed out to pick up the bus to bring it back to the parking lot at the Solera Community Center for...

Feb 17, 2013 - Day 216 - Chandler, Arizona

We spent a lazy day today, enjoying the sun in the yard and updating the journal. We are sure glad that Verna was here to offer us a place to stay while the bus is at shop. We could have stayed in it there but that would have been no fun. We got ourselves organized and headed to Florence to visit Carol and Dave Buckle for supper. They own a couple of lots in Florence Garden campground and have quite a nice set-up with storage shed and patio beside their fifth-wheel. Carol fed us a wonderful supper, with Dave's BBQ skills of course, and even...

Feb 16, 2013 - Day 215 - Chandler, Arizona

Verna and I had a lazy morning while Garry drove up to the bus to get stuff we forgot and get it ready for them to work on. When he got back we headed out to check out the Mesa Market Place. This is four large open air barns with vendors selling everything from metal sculptures, to paintings, to t-shirts, to jewellery, to cement garden statues, to food and crafts and anything else you can think of. We spend two hours wandering there and Verna bought a cement tortoise planter for her front yard. We finished off the afternoon at Home Depot...

Feb 13, 2013 - Day 212 - Around Chandler, Arizona

We headed back to Verna's in the morning, laundry in tow. We started a load then headed out for a walk around the Solera community that Don and Verna live in. It is a gated 55+ community with a golf course, community center, party rooms, exercise areas, pools, hot tub, tennis, shuffleboard, bocci ball, horseshoes, card clubs and sewing/quilting or woodworking clubs. No end to the fun things to keep you busy. We then headed out in the car to find lunch and tour the area. Verna then made us a terrific fish supper and we taught her how to play...
