Apr 7, 2013 - The beginning

Ray worked his last day Friday, December, 28 and we left the next morning on a 5 night, 6 day journey to Casa Grande, Az where we spent 3 months. The first week in Az temps were unseasonably cold, dipping into the low 20"s. We were asked to collect the fruit from the many grapefruit, orange, and lemon trees in our park. Not a difficult task To pick this bounty of fruit. Although temps were well below freezing for 5 nights the days were sunny with clear blue skies, a nice change from the gloomy rainy days of Oregon. During our 3 months stay...

Apr 4, 2013 - I TOLD You...I'll Be Back!

I can't do the accent but I love Arnold Schwarzenegger's famous line in the 1984 Sci-Fi classic Terminator. "I'll be back!", he growls to the desk sergeant when his cyborg character is denied access to Sarah Conner at the police station. Of course he is back, his malevolent self propelling his car right through the door into the station, but it's the quality of the delivery of the line that makes it. Did you know he later used that line, or a variation thereof, in several of his subsequent movies? Well, yes, he did. This line applies to...

Apr 2, 2013 - Good Times

We spent some time fixing things on the RV that have come loose due to vibration. Spent a little time in the pool and a couple walks in the sunshine... Great weather .. Mid 80's, a slight breeze and lots of sunshine.. Sandi got her first taste of a "WhattaBurger"... good, but fries don't compare to "5 Guys"

Apr 1, 2013 - Casa Grande, Arizona

4/1 – 4/19 Joan was again busy with teaching while Ken did a little work on the house. He added a small solar panel on the roof to help charge up the chassis batteries. He also did some re-caulking on the roof. It was time to clean out all the weird mineral deposits that have accumulated in the water heater – we wonder if those same type deposits have a way of being cleaned out of our bodies. We drove to Mesa to lunch with Bill Joyce and Diane Melde. They took use to a 4 star restaurant called the Seafood Market and Restaurant (3406 E....

3/22 – 3/31 We returned to the SKP Co-Op park along with a number of other couples from the Dutchman trip. Joan went back to teaching and Ken went back to reading. We continued to get ready for our upcoming cruise. Our passports were returned for the last time and we are up to date with all the paperwork necessary for our adventure to the other side of the world. Joan and Carmen have been painting together with good results. Joan finished a painting that she started at Lost Dutchman, which you can see on our web site. She also finished a...

Mar 22, 2013 - Casa Grande, AZ

Fri, 22 Mar: Time to say goodbye to our fellow "Boomers". Our stay at the Lost Dutchman State Park has come to an end and we must vacate our sites by noon. The usual bustle of ten rigs getting ready to move filled our area. We started Dinkum for the first time since Sunday and got him hooked up to the coach. Check lists complete we were ready to roll—but not before the obligatory round of SKP Hugs. Several of us (Smiths, Davilas, and Tarkins) will be returning to RoVers Roost, and the rest will be heading toward other destinations. We...

Mar 7, 2013 - Casa Grande, AZ

Thu, 07 Mar: This was one of those "set an alarm clock" days. Every time we have to do this we rejoice in the knowledge that it is an exception to our retired routine. We dimly recall the days when it was a daily event. Anyway, we awoke in the parking lot of RV Glass Solutions in west Phoenix. We were scheduled to have the fogged double pane entry door window replaced at 0800. That said, Ken the technician knocked on the door about 0715 asking if he could get started. Since all we had to do was open the front door we told him to go...

Mar 4, 2013 - Bad Internet, bad....

For the last few days we have not had access to the Internet. We pulled into the Camp Verde RV Park, but the office was closed and would be through Sunday, so we could not get the code to log onto the computer. Rats. Also, our WiFi hotspot with ATT died. Just like that, it died. Now here is someone who is on the computer a lot so it was a sense of loss, as well as withdrawal. Signed up this morning and we now have Internet, however only allowed to use it for a certain amount of time. So, if I miss a day it will be because I used up too much...

Yippee Tyo's!

Mar 1, 2013 - Shopping

We met Larry and LeeAnn at the Mesa Swap Meet today. It was huge! Three large rows of vendors on both sides and even in the middle. They had everything you could think of for sale, and more. The prices were mostly very good, but some were really not a bargain. It was absolutely packed. There were people walking down every aisle, making is difficult at times not to knock someone in the shoulder or hit them with my purse. LeeAnn said she has never seen it so crowded. She comes every year when they are in Arizona. I think we will be doing this...
