Feb 9, 2019 - Visiting friends and getting a babysitter

We stayed in Picacho at a KOA. We had stayed there before. They have a restaurant that was really good. Well, we got a call that the restaurant had closed. But we stayed anyways. Not too far away is Casa Grande. We visited with more friends who we worked with in Yellowstone, and also some other friends who are going to babysit our freezer for a couple of weeks. We cannot take a freezer full of meat into Mexico so it is going to stay in Casa Grande for a while. We will pick it up again in a few weeks.

Oct 9, 2018 - Casa Grande, AZ

Tue, 09 Oct: Final leg... Today's 73 mile drive might be the final segment of 2018. We're not yet sure if we'll put on new front tires this year or wait until spring. Our inclination is to wait till spring, but who knows??? Our service at the Tolleson Freightliner dealer went well. Nothing of any consequence was found so our total included "routine" expenses, such as $175 for an air filter (plus two hours labor to install), 28 quarts of synthetic engine oil, etc., etc., etc. We awoke early this morning due mostly to the din of a major truck...

Aug 7, 2018 - Arizona, Part 3

My co-worker and friend Jim Grannon and I had a saying each night when we left work at the Star-Ledger – nothing is prettier than Newark in the rear-view mirror. Today, nothing was prettier than California in the rear-view mirror as we left the not so Golden State and re-entered Arizona. But before we could do that we had about 160 miles to cover between San Diego and Yuma. We started with more mountains. We had to climb to just over 4,000 feet to clear the mountains that surround the San Diego area. It was a slow go but the motor home had...

Apr 22, 2018 - Last day in Casa Grande

Today was a slow day. We took it easy except for my trip to Fry's (Krogers). I spent some time getting things arranged for us to get out early in the morning. We are driving about 285 miles to Deming, New Mexico. The x factor is the return to the mountain time zone. We will loose an hour so we need to get started a little earlier than normal. I removed all tire covers, the mirror covers and the wiper covers. I also cleaned the windshield (as far as I can reach) with the waterless cleaner. I got most of the bugs off the windshield and some...

Apr 21, 2018 - Is this the same place????

Fiesta Grande RV Park...been here before. Good place to park for the weekend. The need to be settled in Quartzsite is past. So by 10:00 a.m. on Friday we were on the road on I - 10 to go to Casa Grande. We wanted to be someplace we knew and some place to unwind. But as always now, when we hit the road...how is the engine going to run? Immediately out of Quartzsite there is a long run at a pass around 2,500 feet in elevation. No problem...thank goodness. From there on toward Phoenix....and boom there we were at Buckeye to head south on AZ 85...

Feb 18, 2018 - Casa Grande Rodeo

Met Darrell and Wendy at their RV resort in Casa Grande where they gave us a tour of a very nice place. It is a place that we would probably never spend any time at because we wouldn't use all the facilities that are offered. So for us it makes no sense paying for stuff we wouldn't use. From there we drove to the rodeo grounds where we sat under sunny skies .Todays rodeo was an all Indian Rodeo, part of a week long Casa Grande 2018 Cowboy Days & O'Odham Tash event. All of the main rodeo events were done over a 2 hour period. There was one...

Feb 15, 2018 - Last Thoughts from Casa Grande

Well today was the last full day here in Casa Grande. I have several items to mention of which none are really related. On Wednesday, Valentine's Day, we paused. As you may remember our quest was to chase the dream. Well on Wednesday we rested. There was no chase. I worked early, traded Valentine cards over breakfast and then slowed down. Since we had been on the golf course on Tuesday, had the pizza party to celebrate until the cold set in Tuesday night (Sue got cold and did not warm up until today), we were due for a slow down. Our big...

Feb 13, 2018 - Golf or something like that

Today was busy early. I had to prepare for a Board get together for the bank. Sue went to WalMart to pick up a few items and to find a golf glove for today's golf outing. I completed my phone call and was ready to go by noon. Since we have five tee times beginning at 1:00, we had to hurry. We made it to Tierra Grande Golf Course. Now, no offense but it is a real stretch to call this a golf course. It did have some green grass but it was thin, except for the greens. Now to say the greens reminded me of broccoli, in the way they looked and...

Feb 12, 2018 - I'm a kid again...or Pima Air and Space Museum visit

I do not know where to start on this post. Today we went to the Pima Air and Space Museum. We, as in me, Sue and Sadie. The website is silent on dogs but there was a note on my google search that rated them 5 star for pet friendly. We drove 75 miles to the southeast side of Tucson adjacent to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. Please check the museum website. It will tell you they have 300 aircraft. We arrived and found a place to park about 9:30 a.m. I walked up and verified that Sadie was welcome and was assured she was welcome everywhere but...

Feb 11, 2018 - Quiet but Busy...

A real sleep-late day. I did not get up until 8:00 a.m. I am not sure the last time I did that...except when I was under medication. Sadie was more than ready to go for her walk. Really ready. We returned and Sue was getting up and we got around no faster than we had to since we were not running late for anything. I read the Dem-Gaz online. We prepared to get a few things done today. I handled the plumbing...(dump tanks). We then recharged the water softener for the first time. Around 3:00 we decided to head out for the Casa Grande Ruins...

Feb 10, 2018 - Golf, Mexican Food and nap

Easy day. Slept late and took it easy until about 10:00 a.m. I got dressed (for golf) and then Sue and I took Sadie for her second walk of the day. She can act like a puppy when we get ready to leave the dog run. When we head that way...she knows where we want to go and she is focused to get there...quick. Back to the Bus, make sure I have everything in the car and head to David White Municipal golf course. I arrived about 11:15 for a noon tee time. I checked in and putted a few putts, walked over and hit a few on the range and headed back...

Feb 9, 2018 - the running of the gourds

When I took the pine needle basket class, my instructor mentioned that there would be a shuttle bus traveling from our campground to the gourd festival at the Pinal County fairgrounds about an hour north of here. We have old friends from IL that have moved to Tucson and I asked them if they had ever gone. I had a vague notion that my crafty girlfriend and I would go there together, but her husband was also interested in seeing what it was all about, which found Ken hornswoggled into attending the festival as well, forgoing his morning...
