We woke up to sunshine here in Nevada. The wind calmed down quite a bit and it seems to be warming up. Nov 29, 2006 - Crossing the border into Arizona

We woke up to VERY strong winds this morning in Needles. It was blowing palm tree parts and dust all over the place. In fact, you could hardly see the hills in the distance for all of the dust in the air. It also made it very cold outside. We decided to cross the border to see what Bullhead City Arizona had to offer. We were curious what it looks like and to check out Laughlin Nevada since it is just across the river. Nov 25, 2006 - Back to California

Well here we are back in the state where we started this part of the adventure. Although this time coming into Cali we had to go through a car stop for all vehicles. The guy wanted to know where abouts we had just travelled from and when we told him Brenda he was very surprised. He wanted to know why in the heck there. We explained and were on our way with no fuss at all. I guess Governor Swartzeneger really pulls out the guns to protect his state ; ) We are in a place called Needles now and the road to get up to the RV park is atrocious....

Leaving Mojave, we followed State Highway 58 to Barstow, then stayed pretty much to Interstate 40 all the way to Needles. Well, we did have a little disagreement with Sister Mary Raphael (that's the friendly name for our GPS software on the computer) because she didn't seem to recognize the new addition to CA 58 and kept telling us were "off route," and trying to get us to make a U-turn in the middle of the highway, but we got that straightened out. Aug 17, 2006 - Laughlin, NV

We spent three days in Laughlin doing much of nothing. The temp reached 110 degrees each day and it was so hot we did not want to leave the motor home. We did take a ride up a section of old route 66 to a ghost mining town. It was not much to see, but when they closed down the gold mines they left the burros behind. As a result there were burros walking around the town begging for food. They were all very cute, but you can imagine what a bunch of burros walking on the street can leave behind. May 11, 2006 - Laughlin and Bullhead City

Left Mojave to head further south. Came across a farm of windmills which was kinda neat. Came to a junction of 395 with hundreds of trucks coing from all directions. We were headed for Laughlin to spend a couple of days. Stopped to get some food at a safeway and let the dog out. She was moving her paws constantly until we realized they were burning on the asphalt. Went to one RV park and they didn't allow dogs. Found another one on the hill in Bullhead looking over Laughlin. Feb 5, 2006 - Laughlin, NV and surrounding area

Just before we left Brenda, we added these moose to the graphics on the Montana. I guess we are hoping to see the real thing when we get to Alaska. On the way to Laughlin, we went through the town of Parker, AZ. It was just two years ago when we were here last and we couldn't believe the growth. Today we only drove as far as Laughlin, NV - about 90 miles. Laughlin is a town made up of casinos ranging on one street running parallel to the Colorado River. It lies on the West Side of the river and across the river is Bullhead City, AZ. We spent only one night here at the Riverside Casino RV Park. This is one huge park with over 700 spots. We did a little bit of gambling, but the best thing about our evening here was the tour of the Riverside Casinos Classic Car Collection. Barstow was a very nice surprise. I had not planned to do anything except spend the night and then leave, but I discovered that Barstow contains a very well-preserved "Harvey House." Built in 1910, the Casa del Desierto in Barstow is a beautiful structure that was built as a Harvey House. Remember "The Harvey Girls," the movie with Judy Garland? Packed up and got an early start for the drive to Laughlin Nevada and the Colorado River. Most of the trip was in the high mountain desert and was a very remote route. "Next Services - 110 Miles" Got a nice spot in a county park on the east side of the river in Bullhead City, AZ. which overlooks the water.
