Dec 27, 2012 - Quartzsite

Since arriving at Brenda and the Black Rock RV Park we've made a couple trips back the 11 miles to Quartzsite for groceries and just bumming around. Quartzsite is a popular RV camping area for winter visitors, and tourism is the major contributor to Quartzsite's economy. Nine major gem, mineral, and 15 general swap meet shows are very popular tourist attractions, attracting about 1.5 million people annually, mostly in January and February. Pretty quite right now but things will get busy next month.

Dec 20, 2012 - Brenda AZ - Gateway Ranch RV Park

Moved to this campground in Brenda AZ when they said rain and cool weather were coming. Sure enough, it rained for 2 days in a row and the weather got chilly! I thought the desert was supposed to be dry and hot! It did dry out and get sunny one day, but the next day was cloudy and with more rain. A neighbor in the campground told Roger he's even seen snow on top of the hills around us one year. I don't need to see that. Baked cookies with Melissa and Savannah yesterday. Roger played soccer with Dallas. Roger is busy making rum balls today....

Retired at Last!

Mar 4, 2012 - Our time in Brenda Arizona

It's hard to believe that we have been in Arizona for three months, but sure enough, it's true! We have both managed to stay plenty busy. As our last entry depicts, ATV riding is a big thing here. Rick has gone on rides several days each week - only twice by himself. There are always others in the park willing to go out. Every ride brings something different and interesting to see. I have gone several times and enjoyed every outing. The book I wrote came out in paperback just days before Christmas so we dashed up to Boise to get the first...

Jan 4, 2012 - Brenda RV Resort

Stayed at Brenda RV Resort during Jan. 2012; this gives us a home base in which to leave the RV while we travel in our SUV. Our coach has actually been parked at this location from 01/04/12 until 02/01/12, even though we also make trips in our SUV to a couple of our timeshares. This RV park is located in Brenda, AZ on U.S. Hwy 60 about 13 miles east of Quartzite, AZ. The park has 204 FHU sites and includes the following amenities: large club house, country store, fast food restaurant, laundry facilities, and a RV repair service center. This...

Dec 10, 2011 - Our first few days in Brenda AZ

We arrived in Brenda AZ on Tuesday, Dec 6 just before 5pm. It took us just over 3 hours to make the trip. The spaces here are smaller than what we had in Needles but there is still plenty of room for our vehicles and ATV. We don't have any pics of our site quite yet but we will soon. Dave, from the RV park, did a great job guiding/directing Rick into a tight spot. Once we got set up I got to work fixing dinner. I first tried to thaw meat but the microwave suddenly stopped working so I went to plan "B". Tuna and noodles it would be. After...

Stopped in for an overnighter to see friends, Dave and Melissa Foster who stay and work at the Desert Gold RV Park. We went to dinner, caught up on our Work-Kamping experiences for this past year. The next days drive will be an easy 180 miles so we didn't hurry.

Nov 19, 2010 - A Desert Tour in Herbie

11-19-10 Another fine morning of flying model airplanes, but a great mid-day was spent exploring the Arizona desert. Our friend Tom has a 1966 Volkswagen Bug, which has been modified into a Dune Buggy. This vehicle seems capable of going almost anywhere. Tom drove “Herbie” into washes, rocky trails, and up steep grades that I didn’t think was passable. Tom gave us a tour of the backcountry accessible by old mining roads, Military trails (Patton’s army trained in this area during WWII), and washes (stream beds that are dry most of the...

11-17-10 Black Rock, Brenda, Arizona Left the Phoenix area around noon on Tuesday 11-16-10 for a short 150 mile trip to western Arizona near Quartzsite. We camped in the town of Brenda at Black Rock RV Village. This place came with high recommendations from friends of ours. We arrived late in the afternoon, set up camp and did a nice relaxing load or two of laundry. (He forgot to mention the "exciting" car wash; the first order of business. Sometimes this man is a maniac! - J) The next morning had coffee and sat outside to watch the...
